Now will people get off Pope's *** and support this team

I have made numerous posts extensively detailing numerous coaches that went on to be great who had similar or lesser starts at this point in their career vs. what Pope has done.
None of those coaches just didn’t try to compete. None of them had teams just quit on a regular basis.

You can make every excuse in the book. None of them will turn Pope into a good coach.

He’s going to fizzle out with this team too. He’s in so far over his head he needs a snorkel to breathe.

He’s not even taking advantage of a team building trip.

BYU loves UK for taking him off their hands. Same way we loved Minn for hiring Tubby.

You’re kidding right? Get off his *** just because he GOT (or rather several million dollars got) a player to COME HERE! No one should get off his *** until he actually does something with what’s on his roster. Last year was one of the bigg disasters in UK basketball history…..signing a guy in the transfer portal doesn’t even begin to get me to get off Pope’s ***.
Hyperbole much? We made the tournament. How many times did Cal miss it even with his 5 stars?

Every reply you ever give me is utterly goofball. Your position is Pope hasn't even tried to compete as a coach? You actually believe you know the future. Neither one of us can say for certain what the future for Pope at UK holds but at least I can admit that.

That 1 for 50 number is incredibly disingenuous. Pope has brought more than 1 great player, and 50 is just a number you made up. You don't know how many players we chose to back out on versus how many said no. Yeah, we lost a lot more games last year than we would like. We also had our number 1 point guard out almost all season, and our number two sucked. We still won some big games. Every great coach has seasons like that. It's fine if you don't think he's going to work out but the decision to give him a third year has already been made, intentionally sabotaging it is just retarded.
It’s not disingenuous if you count the elite high school players along with top transfers he has whiffed on. He’s landed JQ(hurt), Brea, and Momcilovic as guys who were highly coveted I would say. Guys like Wilkins and Zoom are obviously wanted by many schools, but I’m talking about battles with elite schools over players he has not won much. Hard to argue otherwise.

There's no opinion or argument on this matter. There's an exact number. Which is facts. I don't know the exact number but it's a lot. Enough that he's become the Whiff God.

We're all rooting for the team and Pope to win. Some of us just choose to look at all available data point and use them to conclude perhaps things aren't where they should be, and that it isn't OK. Acting like being honest and real about where things stand with the program =/= hoping they lose. Some of you are just dense.

Pope will be the coach for several years to come. Making the Sweet16 next year will get him a raise & another 1 year contract extension. A 23 - 10 regular season & 26- 12 overall record will give him 72 wins in 3 years with 5 NCAA Tournament wins .
The 5 in 5 rules change will give most players the a chance to play another year & Ky will be ranked in Top 10 going into 2027 - 28.

I expect we will have a better record than that this year if we can finally avoid major injury issues. If we play a more difficult schedule than any other coach at UK has ever played for the third year in a row it will still not be easy to do though.

You are nuts
Anyone that thinks giving Milan 7M is a great move is nuts. He is a good player but not worth 7M under any circumstances. Last guy to get that money is going first pick in the draft this year. Milan could not even get a first round guarantee. He is not a savior for this team. He will be a good player worth half as much as he has been paid. Some of you celebrate like Pope just did something incredible. Milan still tried every way he could to get someone to offer close to what he was getting from Pope so he wouldn't have to come here. I guess he couldn't get close so he had no choice but to coerce. How can Pope or any other rational person feel good about that.

Louisville and Arizona were right there. St John's would have been if they hadnt landed their own big money player a week before. Are they all crazy too?

That is "trashing'" the other players? Wow, now we are really stretching to feign offense. If you're going to act outraged about everything and be a drama queen about simple discussion, it's probably better for your emotional stability to put me on ignore.
LOL. Yeah. I guess we should just stop reading what you actually write. Good idea.

These trolls are SO predictable. I would have bet a million bucks that their narrative would instantly change from " Pope whiff again" to " We got him but we paid way more than he is worth". I sure wish you guys would waste your time on the UL board where you belong!

We finely land a decent transfer player, and suddenly we are trashing other fans with another new screenname.
One last look at what you actually wrote, even if you don’t understand.

By the way, you finally wrote a post that made you sound like a man. Don’t take offense. Just interpret it like you want others to interpret your post. If you do, I am sure you will conclude I said absolutely nothing about your previous posts sounding oddly feminine.

Enjoy being confused and upset.

I think if it’s your money, you may cry that Pope overpaid. If it’s not, posters should STFU. UK fans wanted MilMom and Pope got him. It’s time to enjoy and stop finding juvenile ways to always be pissed about Pope.

Not hard to find posts all over this board hoping Pope misses on recruits so we'd lose enough to get him fired...
Nobody said there wasn’t. There’s a big difference between hoping Pope is fired and being miserable with wins. Personally I’d rather Pope barely make the tournament and get bounced early so he’s fired as well but I won’t be miserable if we win.

The only way I’ll be miserable is if we lose 10+ games yet again, get bounced in the round of 32 or s16 and he is brought back. He either needs to win at the UK level or fail. This mediocrity that he’s so good at producing is the worst thing for the program. It keeps us in purgatory just wasting seasons.

Not a big enough data sample to draw that conclusion. His first year was actually quite impressive given what he started with and the injuries he was dealt.

Last season was bad. No question or argument. However all coaches go through that. The key to keeping a fan base happy is to have that bad year on the heels of some great years. A luxury not every coach has. Many examples of great coaches struggling in their first seasons at a big program.

I also fully understand your point of view, because I felt the exact same way about Marvin Lewis and Andy Dalton with the Bengals. They were just good enough to make the playoffs, but never had any prayer of winning anything. It was purgatory hell and I was desperate to see them sent packing. However that went over many years to really establish their limitations. Not just 1 or 2.

We need to be fully on board with supporting Pope and ride this out. No other choice really. Just cheer your *** off for the best outcome and let the chips fall where they may. He may end up surprising you.

I’m also basing my opinion on what he did at byu as well. So far he’s done here exactly what he did at BYU over 7-8 years. Thats just no where near good enough. He just seems to be one of those coaches that will always be mediocre regardless of circumstances.

Point me to the person that acted like we signed Michael Jordan.
If you’re capable of reading for yourself that should be good enough. Everybody all of a sudden is back on Pope’s nuts over one dude from Iowa State. Now it’s , “we’re gonna make a run next year.” This is a super weak recruiting class he’s assembled.

booed three times by his own fanbase
stop playing dumb
Stop playing dumb??? How can Fan reactions dictate a team disaster??? This team was unlikable. Hurt, and didn’t play hard. But…
Have you NOT seen what’s happening in this country?? People won’t wait in line at a drive thru for more than 5 minutes before taking a baseball bat to the car in front of them. Media has done that. Phones have done that. People are not the same as before. Expect more craziness coming.
Fan reactions don’t determine a disastrous season. Wins and losses do. We had as many wins as we are accustomed to since NIL started. We got as far as we have in the tournaments since NIL started. It was a typical season since NIL started. That’s who we are now.
It’s not the coaches. It’s our system for paying players. It’s a failure and no one wants to admit that.

Anyone who paid attention to what Cal was doing the last 4 years knew he wanted to get bounced - he didn’t care. Cal was embarrassing to be sure, but I still hold to my statement that last year was one of the biggest disasters ever.
Preseason top 5, highest “payroll” in history of a very short NIL era (which put the media spotlight on us from day one). Embarrassing, massive, inexcusable blowouts to Mich St and Gonzaga (never in my long fandom have I witnessed UK teams play with the lack of effort I witnessed in those two games). From about the middle of the conference season, we were teetering on the bubble of even MAKING the NCAA tournament. I’ve watched UK religiously for about 48 years and last year was, without a doubt to me, one of the biggest disasters in UK basketball history.
Pope openly has said numerous times that you can’t believe what’s reported. He sat at the podium and said when he picks up a paper 95% of everything he reads is inaccurate. One person reported that 22 million number and everyone repeated it. We got our 4th choice at every position. We didn’t pay as much as others. Pope isn’t Goofy. He isn’t dumb. Players are not coming here because they are getting higher offers elsewhere.

Compare Pope and Cal in their first two years each. Then progress forward each year to get equal data.
That’s so bad of a statement.
College basketball isn’t even a semblance of itself when Cal came here.
That’s like comparing apples to car parts. It’s not in the same universe. Cal failed miserably here under NIL and is now flourishing at Arkansas again. It’s almost as if our NIL system sucks.
That can’t be it though. Pope is goofy. That’s gotta be it.

We won’t know what was paid. Pope made a good point by saying he did not mind the reputation of being the school that pays the most, but he never confirmed the dollar amount. Had he gotten into the weeds, he would created more questions. It was probably smart to let that go. I think it clear now that Yaxel was not telling the truth concerning what he claims UK offered. It would be fun to sit down with Pope and get the behind the curtain truths.

IMO Pope doesn’t want the truth out there.
Fiction: Kentucky has the most expensive Roster.
Fact: Mitch Barnhart system requires players to sign away some rights and agents get cut out of money because corporate parters supply cars, Apartments, food, and other things agents don’t get a piece of.
Ask yourself, what version Mark Pope wants out in the Media. The truth or fiction ?? It may have been marketing genius to have Goodman put that story out and deflect why no one was choosing Kentucky.
