I won't see it until tomorrow since I am working from home but how bad was it? It really won't bother me that much. Normal commute is 65 north to Watterson east so I don't need to go downtown and even if it is bad, the surface streets don't take much longer anyway.

For those that might be traveling through Louisville between now and July 31, I-65 north and south bound lanes are shutdown from the Waterson Expressway (I-264) to the bridge. That's about a 5 mile or so stretch.

No through traffic, not even for first responders. This is what scares me when minutes, even seconds count.

I get it though. It's either be really, really, really bad for a couple months or it being really, really bad for a couple of years. Better than waiting for the overpasses to collapse.

Honestly, it all depends on where you are and which way you're going. 65N to 264E and W was slightly backed up but not much of a hassle. It seemed to be smooth sailing for the most part.

Drove 64w to 65s Jefferson and Brooks exit, at 6:30 am. It was very light. It felt like the city was shutdown. Don't know where everybody was at.

Saw it almost every week when I was on campus. It’s a ruthless and merciless bridge
Yep the one overpass for the train by the engineering school gets a lot of action too. We used to call it the 3rd & Eastern Truck Opening Company.

Usually when they remove a downtown highway, traffic improves. Many cities have seen similar improvements, notably Seattle, Portland, and Milwaukee.

I don't go to Louisville a lot, but it seems like getting off 65 North onto Waterson can back up into 65 under normal conditions. Same with getting off the Waterson back onto 65 South. I would think 265 will get a lot of extra traffic now as well for through traffic.

Best way around that is to go past and go to the airport and it loops back around. It may be about 2 miles further to do that but it moves. You don't go near the terminal so it's fine.

Through traffic will most likely take the Gene Snyder.

Thank you for that. Gotta see the heart doctor in Louisville tomorrow. Seriously thanks.

Another one from this morning. News said that 5 trucks got stuck yesterday trying to go through a train overpass.

So they built a bridge/overpass that’s not high enough for a semi to drive under? Why??

Milwaukee traffic is AWFUL. Worse than Chicago or LA
You should see Honolulu… mornings H-1 West to East (Waiʻanae to Downtown Honolulu) after work East to West H-1 Downtown to Waiʻanae…30 miles each way… 90+ minutes and If there is an accident or stalled vehicle…. Forget about it…

I grew up in Hawaii (I get to tell people I'm from Hawaii when I have to provide my SSN, lol), and I have driven it; it sucks. Speed limits are 10 MPH lower (and they WILL pull you over). At least drivers are decent, with the "Aloha Spirit". Unfortunately, there's only one way into Wai'anae (Wai'anae is pure garbage, anyway). I lived in Mililani (and a little in Aiea). Unfortunately, to get to the Windward side, you have to go through Honolulu. Thank God they added H-3 and H-201. The Pali Hwy was the only way to get to the Windward side.......unless you took Kalaniana'ole......(yeah, screw that). Unfortunately, the Wai'anae and Ko'olau Mountains prevent any efficient travel. I had to do the Wai'anae to Lai'e drive and it took two hours. Even if you go King Kamehameha, through Haleiwa, you're still screwed. Pure garbage.

Also, Farrington Highway is terrible; you gotta love the random lane changes.

Don't you live in Kailua? As bad as traffic is, the schools in Hawaii suck even more. My first school was Pearl Harbor Kai - pure trash.

Yeah the entire 65 in Louisville needs massive work. 71 as well. They need paved or new concrete everywhere. So many pot holes and old overpasses need help. It sucks when major parts are closed, but with the new bridge a lot of the old problems aren’t nearly as bad now. Close it and get a massive part of the roads fixed for once good.
