How was Northwestern the number one overall seed with three losses when UNC had one? I know Northwestern had the head to head, but that making up for two more losses seems extreme.

NW was #1 in the RPI and had two one-goal wins against 3 seed Maryland. I think we demonstrated yesterday that those wins against Maryland weren't nearly as impressive as previously thought, however.

The bigger problem for me is that NW gets to play for a national championship on their home field. That's an excessive advantage given what's on the line, imo.

cameter44 I totally agree with you. That RPI system that they are using is a bunch of bull. I do not like the fact that NW will be playing on their home field. We are not going to get any calls from the referees tomorrow. We are going to have to play against NW, their fans, the referees, and the Chicago media tomorrow. Some of the analyst are also against us. There is so much bias against us that it seems unreal. It is funny that none of the media wants to talk about how Maryland got cheated at the place by the referees during the closing minutes of that game which cost them that game against NW.

I know our field hockey team won at least one of their national championships on our home field. It just happens for some of these sports that the best facilities for them are school arenas/stadiums. There doesn't exist neutral site venues that are of equal quality like for football and basketball.

Yeah there just aren’t great host sites

I hear you about home court-but for the Non rev sports that is often how it rolls . I assumme they actually bid on this-in addition of course to having a great facility
UNC for ex often hosts the the Soccer final four at the Cary Soccer complex-practically a home field-certainly a flood of fans
In the 80s we held it at our UNC field about 6 times.
I don't why a place like Orlando/Disney property doen't just outbid everyone else every year-they could I assume ? they could add on UCF or some school to make it University sponsored

Yeah, but it is hard when you get all the calls because of home cooking which can nullify us scoring if the referees start calling scores back like they did Kate the other day.

The men's lacrosse lead announcing team (Shroff, Kessenich et al) have often called for a joint event for men and women in the same venue. I do not know what that would look like in terms of fan engagement (I get the feeling that the fan groups don't overlap as much as you would expect?) and it would obviously require a complete reworking of the women's lacrosse schedule.

But it is a decent idea to explore for shared resources.

Even better, the NCAA should consider a neutral site agreement for a long-term contract. a good example is NCAA Women's Tennis which just agreed to a 10 year deal with Orlando to finally end the home field advantages. The reason for a long-term deal is that the host site is incentivized to invest in facilities and marketing needed for success.

The question then becomes: can you sustain a good game atmosphere with adequate fans? I suspect that if you played it in the heart of lacrosse popularity like MD or PA, the answer would be yes. And if you played it in a destination city like Orlando, the answer would be yes. Memorial stadium in CLT would be an ideal venue, but maybe not the best for fan support?

But, bottom line: I do NOT think on-campus sites are needed anymore. The vast majority of other NCAA sports have moved away from campus host sites and have done just fine.
