North Carolina Dominates Maryland, One Win From National Championship Repeat
North Carolina closed Friday's contest on a 13-0 run to secure a spot in Saturday's national championship game.
NW was #1 in the RPI and had two one-goal wins against 3 seed Maryland. I think we demonstrated yesterday that those wins against Maryland weren't nearly as impressive as previously thought, however. How was Northwestern the number one overall seed with three losses when UNC had one? I know Northwestern had the head to head, but that making up for two more losses seems extreme.
I know our field hockey team won at least one of their national championships on our home field. It just happens for some of these sports that the best facilities for them are school arenas/stadiums. There doesn't exist neutral site venues that are of equal quality like for football and basketball.NW was #1 in the RPI and had two one-goal wins against 3 seed Maryland. The bigger problem for me is that NW gets to play for a national championship on their home field. That's an excessive advantage given what's on the line, imo.
Yeah there just aren’t great host sitesI know our field hockey team won at least one of their national championships on our home field. I hear you about home court-but for the Non rev sports that is often how it rolls . I assumme they actually bid on this-in addition of course to having a great facilitycameter44 I totally agree with you. That RPI system that they are using is a bunch of bull. I do not like the fact that NW will be playing on their home field. We are not going to get any calls from the referees tomorrow. We are going to have to play against NW, their fans, the referees, and the Chicago media tomorrow. Some of the analyst are also against us. There is so much bias against us that it seems unreal. It is funny that none of the media wants to talk about how Maryland got cheated at the place by the referees during the closing minutes of that game which cost them that game against NW.
The men's lacrosse lead announcing team (Shroff, Kessenich et al) have often called for a joint event for men and women in the same venue. I do not know what that would look like in terms of fan engagement (I get the feeling that the fan groups don't overlap as much as you would expect?) and it would obviously require a complete reworking of the women's lacrosse schedule.I know our field hockey team won at least one of their national championships on our home field.
