The hitting WILL come around. The Mets are currently 30th out or 30 in OPS. Dead last. That will change. I will die on that hill.

The question is whether it will come around enough. And soon enough.

I wish I was as optimistic as you are. With the injuries the Mets have sustained I’m afraid they don’t have the horses to actually hit. Outside of Soto and hopefully eventually Bichette.

The rest give me zero reason to hope for improvement (this year / rookies get a pass)

This guy nails it pretty well.

"The team has no leadership, no fire, no fight, and a losing culture. They are beholden to garbage analytics and have no feel for the game.'

Meh. I think the guy is spouting cliches.

No leadership? How would he know? He's spent as much time in the locker room as I have.

No fire? Yeah, I know fans like to see McNeil throwing helmets and Alonso breaking bats over his knee after they strike out. Me? I prefer results over performative gestures.

No fight? Dude, this is BASEBALL, not hockey.

A losing culture? Meh. You know what creates a winning culture? Pitchers who can pitch, hitters who can hit, fielders who can field, etc. Do those things, and culture takes care of itself.

If the Mets do not get back into the race, it will be because of hitting, pitching, and fielding. Not some BS "intangibles".

I figured you would disagree, and we can have different opinions. This team has no fire, no heart and no balls. Some fans liked the fire that the angry squirrel, Pete and Nimmo showed.

Nice cliche. Respectfully disagree.

The Mets finish 6th overall in OPS in 2025. The lineup is so different this year, I can't imagine the offense improving enough to crack the top 20.
yep- they didnt need Alonso - who is all of a sudden in an over 100 RBI pace again, Nimmo who has a .790 OPS, McNeil, batting .272 or even Marte who is at .294 in the type of role we should have brought him back for...

And we have some big chunks of money we are paying Nimmo and McNeil to play elsewhere, Polonco and Robert to be injured. Semien and Bichette to suck and over $40 M to Montas and Manaea

We easily could have had Nimmo, Benge, Soto as our OF - see, Benge was not being blocked. And Alonso Viento, Baty in the Inf with McNeil being super utility and Marte being the leader in the club house. And if you wanted to give Ewing a shot - Easy enough to give both Nimmo and Soto time as DH.

As for locker room politics- that had nothing to do with failures last year. Dumbest thing I ever heard.

Stearns needed to get pitchers, pitchers, pitchers. And not try to be the smart guy that thinks he can make bad pitchers good.

I really think he has also become that GM that FA's just don't want to come play for.

But heck- we have a shot to get into a good run and maybe get up to .500

When do you get tired of defending Stearns. What you said about results over performance gestures. That would be cool and all if we were getting results. Those performance gesture guys- Alonso, McNeil, Nimmo - are getting results- for other teams.
Semien, Bichette, Robert, Polanco are giving absolutely nothing and costing us even more…

There is zero defense for Stearns. He couldn’t even build a bench. And forget about pitching. Let’s just make him our head of tge minor leagues.

Oh I agree that fans like fiery personality types like Alonso and McNeil. Surprised you batched them in with Nimmo, whose "aw shucks" persona is quite different.

So now we have Lindor, whose reaction to a tough loss is to smile and say we'll get them tomorrow. We have Soto, a quiet introvert who shows little emotion on or off the field. We have Alvarez, a confident guy who probably tries to do too much. And a bunch of other guys whose personality we really don't know.

And none of that matters. Just play well. Just win. Do that, and the fans will love you, regardless of your personality type.

The fact that you don't wear your fire, your heart, and your balls on your sleeve, doesn't mean they aren't there.

Stearns is in hiding. Can't be found when sh*t is going south. If the Mets put together a 2-game winning streak, then he'll show up taking crazy crap like Baghdad Bob.

C'mon, did you watch the series highlights I posted? Analytics said batter did not have to tap your helmet for a challenge, and Mets won that! Progress!

It’s been time since late April to terminate the manager and hitting coach !

Besides money which the casino owner can absorb - what is the purpose of not doing either?

Team is a joke and fan apathy reigns supreme right now.

Soon the brown paper bags on fans heads will appear !

Good article in the Athletic today from Tim Britton (paywall). He compared this team to the 2009 Mets. I hadn't thought of that but it fits well.

You will recall that the 2008 Mets (as did their 2007 predecessors) missed the playoffs on the last day - same as 2025. Management was determined to fix it for 2009. The emphasis was on run prevention, although they didn't use that term. They felt that they had enough offense. But they had some key injuries, and learned that they weren't as deep as they thought. The offense collapsed, and the team finished 70-92. It took five years to rebuild from that mess.

Hopefully history does not repeat itself. At least in 2009, we had a new stadium to distract us.

McLean has elite STUFF - and it is so elite when it is on- that he has not learned how to pitch when it is not on...he really needs someone to really teach him to pitch now...
