The Mets finish 6th overall in OPS in 2025. The lineup is so different this year, I can't imagine the offense improving enough to crack the top 20.
yep- they didnt need Alonso - who is all of a sudden in an over 100 RBI pace again, Nimmo who has a .790 OPS, McNeil, batting .272 or even Marte who is at .294 in the type of role we should have brought him back for...
And we have some big chunks of money we are paying Nimmo and McNeil to play elsewhere, Polonco and Robert to be injured. Semien and Bichette to suck and over $40 M to Montas and Manaea
We easily could have had Nimmo, Benge, Soto as our OF - see, Benge was not being blocked. And Alonso Viento, Baty in the Inf with McNeil being super utility and Marte being the leader in the club house. And if you wanted to give Ewing a shot - Easy enough to give both Nimmo and Soto time as DH.
As for locker room politics- that had nothing to do with failures last year. Dumbest thing I ever heard.
Stearns needed to get pitchers, pitchers, pitchers. And not try to be the smart guy that thinks he can make bad pitchers good.
I really think he has also become that GM that FA's just don't want to come play for.
But heck- we have a shot to get into a good run and maybe get up to .500
