The way basketball and football recruiting has gone the past several years, I can understand the “perceived” excitement within the football program as of late, but I’m glad someone else besides me for once, brought some level minded perspective to the discussion…

Most folks forget the fact that, although on paper, Stein’s recruiting looks to be much improved over previous seasons, you nailed it by reminding us what “killing it” in recruiting, actually looks like!

I just hope everyone tempers their expectations for Stein and Co. next season, and remember, he’s going to have the hardest or second hardest schedule in the entire country, and anything over 4 wins should be considered a step in the right direction!

And for the folks talking about UK winning a National Championship in 4-5 years, based on Stein’s recruiting this offseason, and before he coaches a single game, wake us when he puts together a Texas or Ohio State type roster with multiple 5 stars and high 4 stars up and down the sideline, with a $50 million + payroll to show for it… Because, until UK reaches that threshold, they wont be sniffing even a SEC championship, much less CFB Championship.

Let’s come back down off the clouds, folks 👌🏻

Signed,

Indiana

Hate to poop on anyone’s excitement but if we signed a mid 3* in basketball Pope would be crucified. I love Steins momentum but he has 5 four star recruits and 10 three star. When that all shakes out at the end of the cycle that will be good for 12th out of 14 teams in our league. Stein isn’t killing recruiting. We have dramatically different standards in Football. After his first few cycles, Stoops recruited these exact numbers.
Optimism is great, I hope we play well, but saying Stein is killing it is crazy. Texas has reportedly spent 60 million on the roster so far. 5*s and highly rated 4*s only. Texas is killing it, OSU is killing it. Georgia is killing it. Oklahoma surprisingly is killing it. We are where we always are. .
Come start of next season , we will have out recruited the same schools we do, and be behind the schools we always are.
Stein went after the #1 portal QB and just like always he chose LSU and Kenny Menchie who was on no one’s wish list was announced. We are getting who we always have.
I hate to poop on you nonexistent excitement, but Football and Basketball are worlds different in terms of recruiting and coaching. It’s not even in the same universe. It’s like the difference between kick the can and professional football. It takes a hundred and fifty plus men and women to help a football program win even one game a year. , basketball, a couple coaches and five good players and you have a chance to win. There is no comparison between the two at all. None!!

Huge fan of Stein but please keep early expectations in check. He inherited a depleted roster and even though we had some nice portal additions, expecting 8 wins next season isn’t realistic. I love what Stein is doing but let’s not create disappointment and derail recruiting momentum by pretending we will be top 25 next season. As good as the HS recruiting class looks, none of them will be on the field in the fall.
It’s doesn’t have any expectations, it’s only job in life is to troll here.

I love your optimism, I bet you are loads of fun to be around watching UK sports. You are the one person who hopes that we blow a lead so you can say that I told you so. Stoops had a Top 15 class in 2022 but last year it was 29th. So, I would say that Stein is killing it compared to Stoops and last year’s class.

I am relaxed. lol. I’m not the one claiming we are gonna be playoff bound with our 3*s.
Pope haters tick me off because I don’t believe it’s even 30% his fault he can’t recruit. It’s Mitch’s administration. Calipari is now recruiting difference makes again at Arkansas. He was getting Brandon Boston, Ewards five star flops here.
Then people laminate it can’t be because Stein is killing recruiting. He isn’t. Not Nationally. Our NIL system and administration is not pulling in TOP basketball recruits.
It is also NOT pulling in TOP football recruits. The argument Stein is killing it compared to Pope is Flawed. We will most likely have a higher rated basketball class than Football.
Yet, according to everyone. Stein is Killing it!! And Pope is a goofy analyst who can’t relate.
If our basketball team ranks 12 out of 14 teams in conference let me know.
We are not landing top Football recruits.
We are not landing top basketball recruits.
Mitch Barnhart has destroyed UK athletics.
At least with Stein, people are excited about the future of the program. They will fill the seats and make 2-3 times more money than the basketball team makes even with a losing record. Stein will bring in Superstars soon, if he can get a good offensive line the top prospects will take a chance on UK. Stoops couldn’t offer them anything.

How many 5 stars did Indiana have on their National Championship team last year? Wait, I will tell you (-0-) so even though Texas and Ohio Stste spend all that money for 5 stars it didn’t help them against IU’s lower star players

Stein is killing it in every phase as a new HC. But people need to be REALISTIC about this first season. 6 wins will be success in year one with that insane schedule, it wont make everyone happy, but people need to let the man cook. He knows what he is doing.

Well I hate to poop on your 3 downs of 3 yards and punt love of Stoops but I am going to anyway. Stein and Stoops are in completely different offensive mindset universes. You will see the difference this fall. I love what Stoops did for the program, but to think that Stein is doing the same ol same ol just shows football ignorance. Stein is going to set the standard on how to rise to national prominence year in and year out from the middle to bottom of the SEC. Enjoy the ride because it will be a fun one...

Yeah. When I saw that quote I about spit out my drink in excitement. We are showing programs how to do it now.

Anyone hating on UK FB can go play in traffic for all I care. Nothing but positive vibes at the moment and I’m freaking loving it. Polar opposite of the BB team.
