Oregon suing means that Oregon believes they have a slam dunk case that will pay itself forward. Litigation is very expensive. When I was a department chair weā€™d all meet with the university lawyer who would plead ā€œPlease donā€™t get us sued.ā€

I don't know any of the specifics of this case but I suspect that many of these players have very poor representation. So they must have someone who is considered an agent. Who is this person? A parent? A former coach? A local hustler? Hopefully it is a lawyer, however how many lawyers are competent in a field of law that is just emerging? Add to that, college football is national, yet most attorneys are only allowed to practice int the states where they passed the bar.
I just can't imagine how poorly represented these player are.

Representation costs money. Judging by his buyout, Oregon wasn't paying Fields much and it wouldn't surprise me if Oklahoma isn't paying him much more.

If I were a kid, I would say no class participation, just pay me and every responsibility, every detail, including hours required on the practice field would be specified in writing.

As it is now, it's a mixture of nonsense. This suit proves it. The kid literally left town in the middle of the season.

The NCAA has no teeth. Worse than a paper tiger.

As for the kids and their representation; no question that the best possible advice and so forth should be afforded these kids and their families.

That said, no amount of the best lawyers in the world will come to a hill of squat when a 17 YO Primadonna decides to have a tantrum.
