His problem at NU was a crushing domestic situation. Most of us would have had a difficult time controlling our emotions and behavior in that situation. Crime of passion defenses in some instances can be used to downgrade criminal charges. I don’t know Mickey. I don’t know the personal details of their relationship. It’s pretty clear that he crossed the line but I’m not sure what I might have done in the heat of the moment if I discovered my wife was cheating on me.
I guess his wife was not one of those "super happy married people" that we keep hearing about.

Some people flail around their whole life seeking to be more happy. Turns out the problem is usually their own. Thats the explanation for why so many miserable fxxks are divorced multiple times or struggle to maintain long term unmarried relationships. Not at the time. One thing is clear to me-- the guys that make the hiring decisions care more about credentials and public perception than how good of a coach a guy is and how good of a fit he would be. In fact, I'm not sure any of past ADs even know what constitutes a great coach from an average coach with recent success.

Was he qualified? He was 58-70 as a coach at the time, with a good season at temple and 1 good record at Baylor but with zero big wins.
