“At Big Ten spring meetings, coaches lobby for 24-team playoff”

See the link below. From the article:

”…Coming off three consecutive national titles in football, the Big Ten's voice will be heard louder this offseason. The league formally invited reporters to the spring meetings, a departure from the recent past and a move that mimics the heavily covered SEC meetings that take place annually in Florida after Memorial Day…

…It's clear from the early snippets of conversation that the Big Ten coaches remain convicted on moving to a 24-team College Football Playoff, an idea that began in the conference less than a year ago and has gained support across the ACC and Big 12.

Whether the idea gains traction at the highest levels of the SEC will be a question that looms over the sport next week, as it is clearly the model favored by Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti.”

A 16 game playoff would make more sense. However, these college athletic administrators are not rocket scientists.
It’s all about money. They don’t care about anything else. There is no way there are 24 teams good enough to win the championship. There aren’t 16 either. Should be capped at 8 as even that is pushing it. Greed at its best

Primarily coaches' money. More slots, more opportunities for coaches to earn bonuses. Networks aren't wild about expansion. They'll pay more money for more games, but not great gobs of cash.

If they extend the season with a 24-team playoff, will there be ample time for the priorities of these student-athletes, meaning their studies, including finals, and rest for their health?

😞
We scoff at studying and finals... keep up this is about lining the pockets with $$$$

I think they should pick two teams and play best out of 5.

Best of 7 in a 2-2-1-1-1 format.

washington vs. miami for the NATTY. o_O

Game 1, Sunday, at washington

Game 2, Monday, at washington

Tuesday, travel day

Game 3, Wednesday, at miami

Game 4, Thursday, at miami

Friday, travel day (if necessary)

Game 5, Saturday, at washington (if necessary)

Sunday, travel day (if necessary)

Game 6, Monday, at miami (if necessary)

It should be all 18 Big Ten teams and then 5 between SEC, Big 12 and ACC, Notre Dame/any other independents, and 1 slot for a G6 school.

Sec clearly against it. Don’t know why big would want it so badly. They are doing quite well now. Especially with sec etc now finally playing 9 conf games. This all favors the big.

24 without conference title games is what some of us have been saying for years. Everyone wants it other than people that wish it was still the 80s.

The SEC doesn't want it because they want a Super League with the Big Ten eventually. The Big Ten wants it to be more inclusive. The SEC will cave.

The FCS has a 24 team playoff...are they no longer offering scholarships? Has that ruined their sport? Some of you just cry to cry

Has nothing to do with the 80s. For me at least. Has a lot more to do with the length of the season and my interest in watching it.

The season isn't changed. Same number of weeks. Round 1 replaces the Title Games. They also plan to end the season earlier without the pointless off weeks in the playoff dragging it out.

Yeah, that’s too long. If Penn State isn’t in it, I don’t really care about it.
4 real conference, 4 conference championship games, then a 4-team playoff. No committee’s, no subjectivity.

That's never going to happen. Especially in a league where 2 conferences dominate and have complete control
There isn't a single college sport that has "no committes; no subjectivity"--college football never has so why are you trying to demand it now?
A 24 team playoff that kills the CCGs and bowl games is ideal and, whether or not you like it, it's inevitable.
Guessing if you wouldn't watch a 24 team playoff without Penn State you wouldn't watch a 4 teamer without them

Just because no sport has it doesn’t mean that shouldn’t or can’t.
I don’t really watch the playoffs now without Penn State. 24 teams is too many for me. Enjoy.

Why would any sport go against what all others are doing? Especially one that is having great financial success to the fact they can expand the post-season?
Right--you don't watch now so it doesn't matter if you like it or not because you're a Penn State fan not a college football fan. There's a difference. If you're not going to watch why do you care? As I said originally, people are crying just to cry. You all know this is inevitable.

Mechanically it works. "Good football?" Half or more of the games in the twelve-team format have been crap.
And that's largely product on the break between games, the neutral site games, etc.
There's always going to be blowouts--we say that with a four team playoff but fixing the format (going to 24 does that) helps a ton
And I was saying FCS was good football
