first concert we went to at The Spectrum in Philly gonna say 1974? Maybe 73. Dr Hook; the Eagles; Billy Preston; Lou Reed; Slade. Dr Hook was always kind of a novelty act, very entertaining for sure, but a definite schtick as well. I used to say can tell you/ I am aging by our children growing up, but now could say by the deaths of the stars from our youth. The list of musicians I saw and listened to regularly coming up who are now dead is really hmmmm not even sure the right word..............

Saw Dr. Hook at Pop's in beautiful Sauget, IL around 2000. His voice wasn't great that night. Kept blaming the girl running the sound board -- "Its got too much wank!" They changed the person on the board and his voice sounded the same. During the show he outdrank my friend and I. We had great fun though. Sometimes, unintentional humor is the best humor.

Actually 1972 Tgar believes and it was the WFIL helping hand weekend Friday night concert. It was a great night of music For sure. Dr. Hook opened as you might expect.

Did you and brothers G make it to the end? That’s quite a line up.

Were the Eagles the headliners?

Slade was the Headliner. IIRC, it was Dr. Hook, Lou Reed, Eagles, Billy Preston, Slade but those three in the middle could be reversed.

At the time, Noddy Holder was the lead singer for Slade and they just released *** on Feel The Noize. ( most folks are familiar with the Quit Riot version ) so, maybe this show was in 1973. Noddy was a total frontman/ showman, something none of us had ever witnessed before. Slade blew the roof off the Spectrum.

One of the reasons it is so memorable is all the bands were in their prime and probably could have headlined. Dr. Hook was way better than anticipated. Fun.

BTW, the Saturday show of the WFIL Helping Hand Weekend concerts included Stevie WonDer and John Lennon IIRC.

WFIL 560 on your radio dial. LOL.

Edit, ***, that’s a no no word? C U M. On Feel the Noize……. LOL. Good lord.

Eagles were second act kind of unknown at the time, right before they became huge nationally, which support TGar thinking was 1972. Blew the roof off the place! Best act of the show. Eagles and Billy Preston best acts of the 5. The version of Lou reed band had Prakash John playing bass, with his platform shoes was like 8 feet tall. During cover of the rolling stone where they yell rock and roll the guitar player wails outa bunch of feedback then lurches forward and knocks over all the microphones, acting/being all intoxicated
