The coaching carousel was pretty slim pickings at that time. We got the best coach available at the time.
But was he? Longest resume maybe. Appeared to have the most relevant success at program building or rebuilding maybe. Best available head coach? Maybe not. I said at the time that I was okay with reaching down to a lower division to bring up a young head coach. IMO our ADs have looked to satiate the desire of boosters for a splash hire. And yes, Bo was a splash hire to some boosters and fans. Rhule came with the Baylor success and an NFL term albeit without success. We gave him a huge contract which in my book rules him out as best available. He had done little to justify 8 million/year for 7 years. The coaching carousel was pretty slim pickings at that time. We already reached down to a lower division to bring up an up and coming head coach (Scott Frost). Look at how that turned out.But was he? Longest resume maybe. No, he was going to be on Rhule’s staff before the domestic situation. Was Mickey Joseph being seriously considered before his domestic situation?
Exactly. There was nothing wrong with the original hire. But there definitely was with the extension.Even if true, he fukcing blows now, so WTF were we doing tossing a few ten million more his way for an extension? Was he the best available when we did that?
Osborne made 188k for his 94 season which included a 50k bonus.
If Rhule was honest about his love for Nebraska and wanting to get us competitive- why not pony up 4 million of your 8 million salary contingent on another 15 million to be raised?
We would be at about 50 million- in the top 10 money wise
He would be a hero. His supposed love for the state and program would be real and more than hollow empty words.
Instead he looks like another greedy grifter making himself obese at the trough. Wouldn’t affect his lifestyle negatively at all.
Did Saben not love Alabama by raking in over $11.5 per year from them?Osborne made 188k for his 94 season which included a 50k bonus.

bringing up *Saban to defend Matt Rhule is probably the dumbest angle you could take. try a different oneDid Saben not love Alabama by raking in over $11.5 per year from them?
Cignetti was available. Obviously some of you would have lost your mind if we had reached that far down. NOBODY would have predicted the colossal failure Frost was. Vigen was available for a fraction of the cost of Rhule. I have zero doubt that Vigen could have matched Rhule’s win totals and I guarantee you Raiola wouldn’t have been his QB. I’m still going to try to support Rhule as long as I can but believe 7 wins is the ceiling this year with the schedule. We’ll see.We already reached down to a lower division to bring up an up and coming head coach (Scott Frost). Look at how that turned out.
Logically the hire looked okay but the terms of the contract were ridiculous. The extension was insane. IMO one of the reasons Trev left was that he knew he had blown the Rhule hire and the pitchforks were soon to follow.Exactly. There was nothing wrong with the original hire. But there definitely was with the extension.
Husker fans would have lost their mind with Cigs.Cignetti was available. Obviously some of you would have lost your mind if we had reached that far down. You don't live in the same world that we do.Osborne made 188k for his 94 season which included a 50k bonus.

I think there are two different questions - Was he the best hire at the time? Or was he the best outcome we could've had?Cignetti was available. Klieman I believe also had underlying health issues that drove him to retire this past year from coaching.Klieman turned us down. Big mistake. K State has very little NIL from what I was told. I would have loved to see what he could have done with the resources we have here. He knocked off Texas and Oklahoma quite often, won big games, put a bunch of guys in the NFL. Good hard nosed coach who won everywhere he went. As the NIL thing unfolded, K State lost a bunch of good players to the portal and he knew he could no longer compete there.
Yes. In both cases the hires were fine at the time. The extensions were not.The Rhule hire made sense. The Frost hire made sense. You never know how things will work out, you have to go with the data available. I think both were the logical decision at the time. Unfortunate that neither have seemed to work out so far.
Yeah...those "health issues" were being a crazy *** rich and not having to work. I hope I get diagnosed with that soon.Klieman I believe also had underlying health issues that drove him to retire this past year from coaching.
This would have been amazing. We should have done whatever it took to hire Urban. Sure seemed doable when he was in town for the Fox broadcast and publicly singing our praises. It was almost as if he was pushing for the job.
Nah. They would have lost their minds because of where he was coaching. The same guys on the warpath to fire Rhule would have gone ballistic if we had hired Cig back then.Husker fans would have lost their mind with Cigs.
He is "mean"
No way he wanted our job. Too many problems. Too many cameras. We should have done whatever it took to hire Urban. Sure seemed doable when he was in town for the Fox broadcast and publicly singing our praises. It was almost as if he was pushing for the job.
It would have been both.Nah. They would have lost their minds because of where he was coaching. The same guys on the warpath to fire Rhule would have gone ballistic if we had hired Cig back then.
I mean, he went out and got recorded while a girl sat on his lap...No way he wanted our job. Too many problems. Too many cameras.

Why? Apparently, to dave, pay determines how much a coach actually loves the school they coach.bringing up *Saban to defend Matt Rhule is probably the dumbest angle you could take. try a different one
But if he would’ve won, fans would let his "meaness" slide. You keep leaving that part out.Husker fans would have lost their mind with Cigs.

Also, what am I "defending" exactly?bringing up *Saban to defend Matt Rhule is probably the dumbest angle you could take. try a different one
Oh 100%!But if he would’ve won, fans would let his "meaness" slide. You keep leaving that part out.
