Seems like this one is going down to the wire. Sloppy turnovers to end the quarter, poor goalkeeping and Stanford winning most of the draws since Sarah went out. Need to hold on.

Stanford wins draw; calls a timeout in the face of UNC‘s defensive pressure. Turnover under pressure.

UNC misses FPS (10:27)

Harden was phenomenal today! Had 7 draw controls, 7 caused turnovers and 3 groundballs.
Definitely the game ball winner. She was astounding. 7 CTs!! :0
Yeah, we have a problem in the cage but likely aren’t talking much about it, as that won’t help!
We also cannot leave defenders on an island for more than 5 seconds with no slide and expect our defense (and goalkeeper…) to stop the other team!
Now, IMO, Stanford is in the top 4 in the country. So this was a high-quality win. Moving on (and continue to refine that defense/sliding)!

I just hated that they put us both on the side of the bracket so that we would have to play each other thereby eliminating the chance for two teams to make it to the final four from the ACC. Stanford should have been ranked higher in the NCAAT IMO.
Director’s Cup-wise I am more than OK with Stanford missing the FF. Their lead is probably insurmountable, but today was a good day.

What is the possibility that Chloe does not win the Tewaartan award? Could the voters pick Madison Taylor since the media, etc loves NW?

It would be a travesty and essentially thievery.
Taylor will probably win it if she plays well and Northwestern advances further than us, especially if they win the national championship.

It's pretty clear that Chloe is the better player though.

Yeah, I agree but the media loves Madison Taylor and NW. I would not be surprised if Chloe gets robbed from this award. The game against Maryland is going to be like old times when they were in the ACC. It is going to be a battle like all ways. NW has the easier opponent to play. Plus, NW is playing in the back yard. I expect home cooking calls for NW from the Referees throughout the final four. It is going to be hard to beat them and the refs since they will be at home.

To be fair, Madison Taylor had a strong argument to win it last year. She had better numbers than Chloe. Chloe going super Saiyan in the NCAA tournament and lifting the trophy having beat Taylor twice in the process is what sealed the award for her.

A reverse of that might happen this year if NW wins it all.

NW gets a friendly whistle for sure but i disagree that Madison Taylor is a media darling. She has a reputation of being a flopper and was universally condemned for her dive in the championship game when Chloe checked her.

Regardless of what happens, everyone knows Chloe is the best in the nation and her numbers back it up

Taylor set the record for most goals scored in a season last year at 109. Her 158 points ranked 2nd all-time.

But she lost the Tewaaraton to a freshman with "only" 90 goals and significantly less points (118) because Humphrey was the best player on the best team; a team that went undefeated and won the title. You can argue that Humphrey was the more dynamic player (she is) and that Humphrey totally outplayed her in the title game (she did). But at the end of the day, they went "best player, best team" instead of the veteran woman breaking records.

The same thing will likely apply this year: Best player on the best team will win. The metrics are not exactly the same (NW definitely will not be undefeated.) But If Taylor is the MVP of the Final Four, they beat UNC twice, we should expect her to win the award, even with less goals. Taylor has 92 goals and 124 points this year, similar numbers to Humphrey last year, and still has two games left if they win.

Incidentally, Humphrey needs 7 more goals to tie the NCAA record, 8 to break it. She has 148 points. She needs 10 points to tie Taylor for second all time, 16 to tie the all-time record. She averages 5.4 goals per game and 7.8 points per game, so her average would break the goal record and end up 1 short of the points record.
