I have been watching Johns Hopkins - Stoney Brook, which was an incredible game. Hopkins did not lead in the game until they scored the game-winning goal with 0:01 seconds remaining (13-12 Final). I actually felt a little sorry for Joe Spallina, who experienced a gut-wrenching loss.

On a side note, watching other women’s teams makes me proud of UNC’s team. There are frequent flops and embellishments from other teams that I rarely see with the Tar Heels. I would appreciate feedback — am I wearing Carolina blue glasses or do the Heels play it straighter than most?

Next up — Colorado @ Northwestern. My expectation is that the Wildcats will really take it to the Buffaloes.

I was getting ready to inquire about why I don’t like NW and coach KAH when something happened that helped explain it. Shooting space was called on Colorado that clearly should have given Aditi Foster a FPS. Madison Taylor took the shot (the announcer had the same observation).

BTW - early returns - I was wrong. Colorado leads 4-3 after 10 minutes.

I saw that free position play. That's on the referees more than Hiller. They have to get the number of the fouled player. If you saw the NU vs UMd regular season game, it appears that referees lose all competence when they work at Evanston. That's my biggest issue. I think the refs are intimidated by Hiller and her husband.

So far - way wrong. Colorado leads at half 8-6. The Buffs played very well, while Northwestern was sloppy, including quite a few cards. My guess is that NW comes back, but Colorado has been impressive.

I think the more athletic team is going to be more likely to rely on their skills; that is all they need to outperform. The lesser team is going to resort to gamesmanship as a secondary recourse.

That is what makes NW and Madison Taylor so infuriating. They have every advantage, but will flop to an extent that would make Coach K blush. I have never watched a NW game where Taylor did not take at least one obvious dive and/or feign a "dangerous check" head contact. I have watched them play close to a dozen times in her tenure.

For the record, I think gamesmanship generally takes your head out of the game and erodes your own play. Unless it is habitual to you to the point that it is just learned body memory operating on it own (see Battier, Shane & Taylor, Maddie.)

Some ridiculous calls against Colorado in Q3.

Taylor Charges, gets alternating possession by putting her body into the defenders body and stick.

Phantom Green Card on Buffs defender gets a women up and a goal, 2nd time this quarter,

still 10-9 Buffs 2 min left Q3

And another phantom green card on the face-off, NW ball and woman up again.

10-10 tied

Buffs score on the FP, but the foul clearly should have been a card. She was outright tackled in front of the goal

11-10 Buffs. 8:46 Q4

How do you get a FP with on a ground ball and outside of the critical area!?!

ridiculous.

11-11 tied 5:38 remaining

Questionable yellow card on Buffs may end the game. 2 min left, 2 min non-releasable.

NW up 11-10

NW shot saved, Buffs have the ball woman down, One last shot to tie.

TO 41 seconds left.

Lame charge call ends Buffs possession. In sudden victory overtime.

The refs certainly had made their presence known in this game. according to the box score that is 8 of the last 9 fouls called on Colorado, 4 directly lead to goals

LOL, Maddie Taylor attempts a flop, they call a dangerous shot on her instead, yellow card on her.

And now the Buffs earn a second foul with 1 second left in a shot attempt. they decide the OT is over and rescind the call., incredible.

13-12 NW

after a video review showed head contact on Taylor's follow through, and they decide they can't see it. Why that review happened 30 seconds after the play, I have no idea. But because of that, NW gets a FP shot on ensuing play that had occurred AFTER the video review play.

Which, by the way, was also an unnecessary whistle in a rough play game that directly decided the game outcome.

Absolute chaos.

that was easily the worst officiated game I have ever seen. And I only watched the 2nd half.

I know that NW beat us already but they certainly do not look scary. the Buffs completely outplayed them in every way except draw control, an inability to clear, and of course the refs.

More amateur officiating in this Md Navy game. Md just gifted tying goal 3 quarters of the way.

Yeah, even the referees are pulling for NW along the media people. Home cooking. That is a crying shame that the referees had cost the Buffaloes the game.

This has been such a strange day … as ridiculous as it sounds, it makes me nervous.

Levy came with a game plan for Stanford faceguarding Humphrey…and it is working.

Kate got mauled from behind on one shot, no call.

that last green card on Stanford should have been yellow, she contacted her head.

stanford playing physical once again, daring them to make every call.
