Theres one more option..... let Vega go 49 this year then shirt him and bulk him to 65. He has the height and was a little over 160 in the off season although he's not very heavy currently. I just dont see Landon moving up.

And yes Im aware Vega losing his height advantage w/ his style could be a thing but its still an option.
I thought redshirts were gonna be done with soon?

As is, he could go 165 and be fine. He would easily AA. He would dang sure give us more points than our 165 pounder this last year gave us. But I agree that it isn't his ideal weight and asking him to wrestle there would be asking him to make a massive sacrifice.

I was just making the point that if you were forced to wrestle your best lineup with both Raneys in it, this is what you would do.
You can no more be certain that the Raney's will excel as freshmen and form part of our best lineup than you could say that about Dee Lockett 12 months ago. The benefit of hindsight doesn't make this statement some sure thing.

I should have been more clear. I have no idea if either/both of the Raneys are good enough to crack the lineup as true freshmen. They will have to prove a lot in whatever opportunities they are given.

I was just speculating on how you would structure a lineup in a hypothetical world where both Raneys are in the lineup.

why wouldn’t Landon move up? Just curious. I don’t know anything about projecting weights.

He’s not that short and he is also not thick. He is muscular with serious core mass, but not what I’d call thick.

I’d guess he’s 5’8 or 5’9? Maybe not?
OK, let me be more precise. If you lined up all the 157lbers from last year, Landon would be below the average in height. He is strong as a bull - he has a lot more muscle than height, he is not at all long and lean for 157. He's also not heavy for the weight. At 165 he would give up even more height and weight. 157 is definitely his best weight.

Yeah, I agree. 70kg is “tougher” to make…obviously, but not terrible.

@WillieTheBrain ’s 2028 Big Board came out yesterday. Justus Heeg at #2 (brother), #7 Matty Staples (Mikey White), #10 Paul Ruiz (Rock Zinkin) and #12 Lincoln Robideau (brother) have obvious connections. It’s wild that we won’t get official contact with them until this time next year.

Any connections to Cam Howard? I know he is KD kid and they go to PSU, just curious. What about other top 5 guys?

Also, Curious what happened to Sanchez, I think he would retain the number 1. I understand if he is not 1, but drop all the way to 6.

I noticed Ladd Holman weighed in at 209 for Junior National Duals (wrestling 215). I wonder if he stays around there and targets 197 in college or keeps growing into a heavyweight by the time he's here. Also curious if he does a mission that pushes his enrollment back an extra couple years

Junior National Duals results of note for those that didn’t follow:

Oklahoma didn’t send as strong of a team as past teams. They placed 8th. The team had just a few D1 level wrestlers, e.g., Jake Miller, Cason Craft. Rylan Sandoval went 5-0 at 106. He was injured in a match against an Ohio wrestler that used two illegal holds including a BJJ arm bar. Sandoval finished the match but didn’t complete after.

Michael White went 7-0 at 190 with 4 tech falls and 2 pins.

Ladd Holman finished 7-0 at 215 with 6 tech falls and 1 pins.

Lincoln Robideau went 6-0 at 157 with 5 TF and 1 F.

The Silva twins (just finished freshman year at Buchanan, CA) went 16-1 combined.

I just saw the newest Flow 2026 class rankings and the Cowboys got 5 of the top 9 wrestlers in the Country. Ross was rated 3rd, Jordyn was 5th, Jayden was rated 6th, Rocklin is 7th and White is rated 9th. Rocklin and Michael really had great senior years to make great jumps in the rankings. Great recruiting class that also included Jax before he early graduated and won a National Championship this year.

Flow has a new 27 class ratings for the top 100 wrestlers in the 27 class and here are their last 2 rating for future Cowboys. Ignacio was rated 7th and now he is rated 10th and he is a 126 pounder. Michael Romero was rated 25th and now he is rated 17th and he is a 150 pounder. Ladd Holman was rated 39th and now is rated 31st and he is a 215 pounder. Hodgins was rated 9th and now is rated 43rd. Villasenor missed wrestling this summer in the National Junior Tournament even though he was scheduled to and this could explain his small drop. If I remember right Romero did okay in a tournament this summer but did not stand out at all. Ladd would have been rated much higher, but he went 1-2 in a big tournament and he appeared to be in poor shape. Otherwise, he looked very good. I was excited about us getting Hodgins but his junior year included him getting upset several times and explains his big drop in rating. Good class but seems to pale in comparison to our great 25 and 26 classes.

I wonder how this new 5 in 5 eligibility is going to change the ebb and flow of recruiting. Will teams (Penn State) be able to string together consecutive #1 overall classes?

Also just watched a 10 minute Stilly Boys show focusing on the Raney twins. They seem to be adjusting and excited to have so many good wrestlers to work out with where in the past it was the 2 of them basically. Jayden mostly wrestled with Spratley and I saw Jordyn mostly wrestling with Robideau and Swiderski.

I saw that too @Harleycowboy , I was trying to figure out what potential weight the Raneys might go from their workout partners but IDK?

Can’t remember if I said it here or elsewhere, but the old rules could still be used for the Raneys.

26/27 redshirt
27/28 Olympics shirt
28/29 freshman szn

Still end up with a logjam because the freshmen from last year will all go 5/5 meaning: 25/26 to 29/30. So two years of logjam compared to 4 with the new rules.

Let’s hope Vega, Forrest will keep growing to bigger weights.
