Really good pick up for them. With Hardy moving on they had a spot to fill. Jake Hockaday was a pretty good recruit and he went 7-2 during redshirt this year but Echemendia is a big step up. Getting him and Robinson has them super solid in the lightweight’s

Lineup looks like-

125-Robinson
133-VanDee
141-Echemendia
149-Nikade Zinkin
157-Taylor
165-Araujo
174-Minto
184-?
197-McDanel
Heavy-Ziola

That’s a tough team. Should be on the podium or at least fighting for it. I thought I heard Echemendia wants to go up to 149 so maybe some things move around a bit but this is close

So, looking at Nebby's lineup made me question if Nebraska has ever finished ahead of Iowa 3 tournaments in a row. The answer to that question is NO. (@johnstownsteel, you can put that one in your trolling quiver for next season)

2025 and 2026 is the first time Nebraska has finished ahead of Iowa two tournaments in a row since 1965-1966.

Nebraska now looking like the runner up!
View attachment 1285069
I initially read that and thought "man, just throwing a cutting Lucas Cochran who has never wrestled a full dual season and is coming off of an injury not only into All-American status but finishing sixth might be a bit much." Then I went and revisited Willie's Crystal Ball and, well, perhaps it's not as crazy as I thought. Still a very bold call, imo, but that's not the deepest of weight classes.

They’re on the verge of one of their boosters having told Bob how they spend millions cheating and GIAs having inside info on all kinds of violations. When the bird starts coming up with 3rd grader nicknames for all their guys they’ll know they have truly arrived.

Allred was an AA at 184 after never being an AA at 197 and he had a great shot to AA this year if the injury vs. Welsh didn't happen I feel like going 184 went pretty well for him unless you blame his injury on the cut

Define "went well". At 197, he was a good wrestler with flashes of brilliance, then just a good wrestler.

Yes, he placed 7th as a Junior and but went back to R12 again as a Senior.

Here's his career summary from Wrestlestat. In my estimate, Outside of AA'ing as a Jr. there was no significant improvement (not even the natural improvement you expect as a wrestler gets more experience) in win % and bonus % for his efforts at going down a weight class and I would certainly wonder if he was injured because he was run down with the weight cut-something we'll never know.

It's quite arguable that the big picture summary is that he languished over four years. Whether that's the weight cut or Manic Manning well.. who knows?

He had his lowest win and bonus percent this year and I suspect the cut was harder this past season and the injuries throttled him back. He certainly never had a win on the order of taking out Max Dean, then a defending NC as a 184.

Perhaps someone could help me with this. How does Enchemendia still have eligibility?

2019 - graduates from Sunnyside High School
2019 - 2020 ????
2020 - 2021 He wrestled for OSU ( free covid year )
2021 - 2022 He began the year for OSU ( clock begins year 1 ) then arrested and removed from team ( freshman year )
2022 - 2023 - not on a roster ( year 2 of 5 year clock - call it redshirt )
2023 - 2024 - wrestled for iowa state ( year 3 of 5 - sophomore )
2024 - 2025 - wrestled for iowa state ( year 4 of 5 - junior )
2025 - 2026 - wrestled for iowa state ( year 5 of 5 - senior )

What am i missing???

Excited for Lucas... not sure where he is wrestling. Do we know for sure he is dropping weight. Nebreska lost their heavyweight also.
I think he can have potential to AA at 97 or HVY
I dont think so at 84

There will be 3 open podium spots at 184 after McEnelly, Welsh, Sinclair, Ferrari, and Mantanona.

Maybe Neitenbach is the 6th.

After that, who's taking the last 2 spots? Especially with Jaxon Smith dropping to 174.

Cochran has an uphill road to make the podium, but so does everybody else left. He has a shot.

1. Maxx
2. Rocco
3. Sinclair
4. Ferrari
5. Mantanona
6. BBerge
7. Fishback
8.(Nitenbach, Conway, Rogers, Soldano, Aaron Stewart, Harvey Ludington, Cochran)

yeah... even if you say spots 6-8 are open... there are some really good wrestlers in this weight class that he would need to beat out!

It's where he wants to be and where his family wants him. I posted about it awhile ago that it was a possibility. Facundo is going back to 165 is what it's sounding like so Oklahoma st could work . Ohio st he would be the 174. At Penn st he would need to battle Henckel and eventually James . But kids want to be at Penn st because they feel they will become the best they can there. Guys will sit a few years to get that title down the road

With Facundo going down what is Lockett doing? Doesn’t make sense to me

Nebraska didn’t lose their HWT, they kicked him out. They didn’t want to risk losing Cade Ziola who is a good prospect that redshirted last year.

They think he needs a RS . Some rumors that athletes already enrolled could still use a RS with 5 for 5 . I'm not sure thats true
agreed...the 5 for 5 is really impacting the top of the food chain the most.. bc they can come in and compete now.. but there are still a lot of kids who need a year to develop in a college wrestling room.

He doesn't need to beat out both Ferrari and Ludington.

Conway graduated.
