Top 60 DBPR guy wasn't a good defender lmfao. Just say you don't ******* like the guy and move on. No need to say ignorant ********. One of only 54 players to finish the season over 3.0 in both OBPR and DBPR. 4th in the SEC in steals+blocks as a guard.
That's the problem with these guys, facts don't matter, you could give them a million dollars and they would complain and make up reasons for it.

To them, saying anything positive about Pope, or any of the players, signals weakness and they refuse to do it.

The only defense people have for Pope is well look at Cal's last years ignoring the fact most wanted him gone. And this one of our own BS needs to stop. Trent Noah is one of our own so do we want a team full of guys with his talent level?
That's not true at all. Pope accomplished great things in year 1, there are plenty of facts to use in his defense.

But here's the difference. The guys on my side, have no problem admitting that Pope is most likely not cut out for this job. But the guys on your side, refuse to say anything positive about Pope, or any of the players.

Worked in year 1 intil Butler, Robinson and Carr got hurt, but you don't want to talk about that. Just focus on year 2, it helps with that cloud of negativity you live in.

What's it like being miserable every day?
worked year 1? 10+ losses and one of the hardest to watch kentucky teams in recent memory

Hang the banner!

No real UK fan would have this loser mentality.
It’s not a loser mentality, it's the mentality of someone that understands the situation and isn't running around crying like a 2 year old.

What good does it do to hurl insults at Pope and call him dumb names, like "Mark Dope"? Is that fair?

Just let it play out and in the process, blame the one that really caused this… ..Mitch Barnhart.

yeah we're letting it play out, and this season is gonna be horrible by Kentucky standards. So i hope you enjoy it... I won't

The Cats have only had 2 really good college players this decade so far. Otega and Oscar.
I read on here that Otega sucks.

But Reed, Rob, Tyty, Brea, Butler, Amari, Maxey, PJ, Monk and Fox are just a few from the last decade that were exceptional to great players.

And yet you say nothing about the final fours and championship. I said his last 5 years sucked and he became stubborn so I don’t know why you brought any of what you did up honestly. The fact that you refuse to acknowledge any accomplishments, which are far greater than anything pope has done or probably ever will do,tells me you are the one who is blind
Why would I say anything about what happened from 10-15? Wtf does that have to do with Mark Pope and Cal's last 5 years?

The John Calipari we had from 09-17, is a completely different guy than the Cal we had his last 5 years.

But let me know if you would like to talk about the 09-17 version of Cal, we can certainly do that. I am a big fan of that John Calipari.

Guess it had nothing to do with Oweh defending the best guard on the other team every game. That matters.

He couldn't have been all that bad, we entered the tournament rated 28th in defensive efficiency against the 4th toughest schedule.

Maybe do something other than just watching the ball and who has it.
He is not a good defender. He just gambles in the passing lanes all the time. Yes, he will get a couple steals like that and maybe a runout dunk. But can't keep his man in front of him and usually doesn't try.

Against the 3rd toughest schedule. That matters. It’s the reason UK got a 3 seed. Do you always just look at the wins and losses?
Do you think Pope loses 10+ games against the 50th ranked schedule? I don't.
Not only that, but UK made it to the sweet 16 and lost to the 2 seed. Didn't have Robinson and had a hobbled Butler and Carr. At least discuss all the facts.

At least he didn't lose at home to VMI, UNCW, Richmond and UAB.
At least he didn't lose to Saint Peters and Oakland college in the NCAAT with ten times the talent.
Pope also played the #3 and #4 SOS in his 2 years here. It’s funny how you left that part out.
"Played" is probably not the right word. He mostly just watched those games. With that deer in the headlights look. He certainly does not compete. And will just quit at a moments notice.

I actually don't care about wins and losses is the thing, or tourney wins for that matter

I just want my kentucky teams to be exciting and fun to watch, the wins will come

the last two years made us feel like every other college team, with nothing special

Year 1 he embarrassed UK in MSG. Got embarrassed at Clemson. He got his lunch handed to him in Rupp by Cal. He was 6th in the SEC. He didn't show up for the game against Alabama in the SEC. Then didn't show up against UT in the S16 game. And that was the best team he's had in his career. Lost 12 games.

You have to keep pointing to it because it's the highlight of his coaching career. The sad thing for UK is that it will always be the highlight of Pope's career.

I got pissed at Cal, because he put players and the draft ahead of UK and when you do that, you better win, he didn't. At least Mark Pope is putting UK first, or… he's trying to.
Is he? Idk what that means. He's getting paid $5mil a year to embarrass the program on a national stage. It seems to me like he's putting Mark Pope first.

Because Cal prioritized the NBA draft and individual goals. He also made fun of UK fans for calling him out on his bullsh*t. He gave us a nickname too, all while he made 10 million a year, thanks to UK fan interest
If Cal was doing everything he coupd do to win and it just wasn't working, fine, I would want him out, but I wouldn't hate him.
If you get this job, UK better be your #1 priority and if it's not, you better win.
That's why I went from Cal's biggest fan to a guy that hated him, but you can have your own opinions, I really don't care.
Pope is certainly failing, but it's not from lack of effort and it’s not because he isn't putting UK first.

This is so bad.

First of all, in a plane crash like you are describing, nobody survives. UK is going to survive.

Second of all, those passengers being calm, are doing so, because freaking out and crying, does you no good and in our situation.

There are 2 things that can happen,
1) the pilot saves it, brings it in for a landing and we all end up on a beach.
Or
2) he crashes, we all live and we get a new pilot and still end up on that beach.

Jesus man, just let it play out. Why is that so hard for you guys to do?
Problem is we are going on the same flight with the same pilot for a 3rd time.......ok this metaphor is played out. 😆
Of course, we have no other option but to let it play out. But we almost certainly know how this ends. And the stubbornness out of the UKAA has created an environment where the fanbase almost has to raise holy hell or their pleas will be ignored. If we didn't raise hell Stoops and Calipari would still be here. Heck, Joker may still be here. Barnhart can't leave fast enough imo.

See, the thing is, we really don't know how this is going to play out. I would agree if both season's went the way year 2 went, but that's not the case.

Yeah 1 had some WTF moments, but for the most part, there were way more high's than lows and if Butler, Carr and Robinson stay healthy, who knows where they would have ended up.

Year 2 was a disaster and Pope is to blame. Roster construction was terrible, but the team obviously didn't like each other and our 1 pg and our bigtime talent at C, didn't play for different reasons.

I have no idea how year 3 is going to go, but my hope is, it's either a huge success, or just bad enough that firing Pope, is the obvious right move, because if he makes another sweet 16, he might save his job and that just means we're stuck with a guy that has a sweet 16 ceiling.

But like I said, Pope is skating on the thinnest ice known to man and these recruiting misses made it even thinner.

What did he lie about? I've now asked this same question twice.
Any time he is asked to describe his team, or his coaching style, he speaks in such flowery hyperbole that it bears no actual relation to reality. Like he'll describe our team and then you watch the on-court product and there is just no correlation between the two.
He says Trent Noah is the best shooter he's ever seen and then in actual games against teams with a pulse he shot like 2-for-85.
During his handling of the injuries (Kriisa/Lowe/Quaintance). All of those players screwed us over to some extent, and Pope allowed that to happen then lied to the fans about it.
He goes on about how beautiful his players are and how great the locker room is, but then they go out and play like they couldn't give a damn.
He always bends the truth to say what he wants it to say.
Same with his (questionable) interpretation of advanced statistics.
He tries to manipulate the fanbase like Cal did, just in his own way. These guys are all car salesmen at heart.

tldr...you can't believe anything he says. That is the definition of a liar.

Yeah, you guys are just taling the complaining to a ridiculous level. It’s every thread.

I understand the frustration, but it's every single thread and what makes it worse, is the fact that you guys refuse to admit Pope has done good things here. He has, but you guys act like he just coached us to two 9-16 seasons, played his favorites and called us basketball bennies.

I agree with that actually and I don't like it, this place being an echo chamber of negativity. And I know that's hypocritical of me bc I add to it. But I genuinely don't see much cause for optimism. We are negative because we are responding to the circumstances we are handed.

I was positive in year 1 and the start of year 2. Year 3, I see zero reason to be positive. I'm positive Pope needs to gtfo

Cal really hurt your feelings didn’t he? Unbelievable how much you complain about that. Who cares if it’s every thread though? It’s a Kentucky basketball forum and he’s the head coach, he’s gonna be talked about. His first season was okay, wasn’t a world beater like you want to prop it up to be though, had some good wins and also had bad losses and the same deficiencies and bad decision making that plagued this last season was still there in the first season. He didn’t make a jump like he should have in the second season, instead he showed he’s just a mediocre coach. And he’s not done himself any favors this offseason

So now hyperbole is lying? If that's the case, every coach is a liar. Heck, we're all liars, because we've all done that a time or two in our lives.

Saying Noah is the greatest shooter on a radio show, knowing that comment is going to get back to Trent, is not lying, it's hyperbolic, but not some destructive lie.

Saying "I haven’t seen him", or "Schaedon Sharpe is going to play and he’s not eligible for the draft, so he'll he here next year too" knowing that's not true at all, are lies.

You're really stretching to land this false accusation, but you do you.
