I've purposely held off on this for about a month out of respect for the situation and the awkward position that I'm in regarding it...Can confirm that Chad Cattau is no longer the head coach at Cedar Catholic and has been replaced by James Kaiser. The school decided that Chad could no longer be an admin and head football coach...even though he's done it for three years. I'll keep most of the information I know private because I have a step son on the team, have a ton of respect for Chad Cattau and consider him a good friend. I will say this though...You remove a head coach of 25 years that won 75% of his games and went to 3 state finals, you better have a better excuse than Cedar Catholic has produced on this one.

That's too bad. Is Chad staying on the staff, or done with football altogether?

Yes, at least the one that I heard about. The one I was referring to was the Cedar Catholic situation and from the outside looking in, I agree with what CoachSloup has to say about the situation.

Boshart out at Cross county and that job did not get posted? Figured Cross County would be a job that could bring in a big name?

Going back to 8 man will help. They have some talent at the skill positions but need to replace their QB who was a good player. Need a lot of improvement up front as well.

Just thought it would have been a job to advertise for to get someone in there to help turn the program back into what it has been in years prior. Just kind of surprised not to see it posted anywhere.

Where is Boshart going?

They have a former head coach on staff and collegiate player at Chadron in Grizzle and another former head coach in McConnell

Chad's been on staff there for a long time. He's coached in 4 C-2 finals. 2001 as an assistant coach, 2009, 2014, and 2022 as a head coach. 21 trips to the playoffs as a head coach. Darn good coach and deserved better.

Not sure where Boshart is going. Was just surprised to see them give it to McConnel and not look or advertise.

I couldn't agree more. I still wouldn't be behind this but at the VERY LEAST make the decision much earlier (November) or after next year. I know for a fact the candidate pool would have been deep for such a good job.

Win 8ish games a year, play in the toughest C2 district in the state, HC of 3/4 of the champ game appearances in history of Cedar. Good luck to the young man taking over, sounds like the leash is pretty tight!

I'm sure the families will be really supportive as he works out the head coaching experience!

Good news is that he has a lot of talent to work with. Bad news is transitions are always hard and expectations are very high
It also helps that Kaiser is a HCC alum who played QB for Cattau… not an outsider coming in. Would expect the system to remain in place, although we saw how that worked out with Pierce when an alum took over for Brahmer

I like reading about all the coaches moving around the state and even though I'm retiring, I wanted to give some insight on 2 schools that have been mentioned. At David City, Kory Kuhlman will be the next head coach. He was my assistant and JV OC for 2 years. Great guy, the kids love him and he knows the offense well. Chad will remain a vital piece of the staff as the OL and DL coach. If you have ever coached with Chad, he's an awesome coach and the kids love him as well. He will continue to be the head basketball coach as well. DC has some good pieces coming back and was rewarded for the success the past couple of years with a brutal schedule. I think if they can stay healthy the Scouts will win their share of games.

Speaking about Cross County, Mitch Boshart is another great coach and person. He will still be on the football staff, but wants to keep focusing on Girls Basketball, which he as done a great job, making the tournament 3 or 4 years in a row. He also coaches track and helps with summer and morning weights. Being a head coach of 2 sports and coaching year-round is quite a bit to ask of anyone. I think Mitch just wanted to hand FB off to one of the capable and experienced assistants with head coaching experience and will remain on staff.
