Terry Smith on Drew Allar: “Our system wasn’t built for him.”

Always amazed me ... BGJ was a QB in college and played the position all his life. Yet once again shows just because you played the game doesn't mean you can coach it. Really almost all the QB's under BGJ were average at best except for Trace. It was like he had no idea how to pick at OC and coach the position.
One of Big Game's problems was that he was a copycat of sorts. Recall in an interview shortly after he was hired of him telling about how hard he worked evaluating what other successful programs were doing so that he could do the same. That's not an entirely a bad thing. But if the intellectual exercise of internal development is skipped, full understanding and the ability to modify and adapt go by the boards.

Hack stunk. Near the bottom.in 3rd down completion % and his qb rating was bottom half.

Needed Two OT wins just to get above .500. Zero top 10 wins. Funny how you don't care about that anymore.

You had low expe6and were happy going 7-5 with ot win vs Illinois and losing to centralFlorida. .
I am not sure what expe6and is, but ok. Do you remember what that team was up against via the sanctions or the state the program was in at that time? Funny how you don't care about that anymore and you disregard it for your own justification. The fact that you are trying to use a non explicitly detailed 3rd down comp % to justify yourself, makes me wonder if you do any research before you talk. Didn't Franklin lose to Ill in 9OTs? Didn't Franklin need OT to beat App State?

It's called job security, if he complained about JF he'd be gone. PSU had way too many
coaches move on, good position coaches like Gattis , and not to mention the coordinators.
That's not the man you all claim then if he refused to have an honest conversation with is boss or the player.

Hack stunk. Psu was in the middle of sanctions and you were happy having a team and going 7-5. Losses to Indiana, centralFlorida, minnesota. Ot vs illinois and michigan. Hacks claim.to fame was a jumpball to a nfl pro bowler.
None of that has anything to do with what I said. It's your opinion.

One thing I will say against Allar is this. That haircut. The broccoli floret haircut. You see it a lot these days. I can't wait until that goes out of style.

It's known as "The Douche."

It's like choosing to drive a Porsche, a Cybertruck or, back in the day, a Hummer.

But for teenage boys.

It's pretty much out of style at this point. Still some kids that are hanging on.

Then tell Drew to leave or quit if your boss doesn't respect you
Have you forgotten how loyal Drew was to Franklin? He stated his admiration and respect for Franklin on numerous occasions during his time at PSU. I also believe Franklin, who was very complimentary of Allar, genuinely cared about Allar and his future. CJF also rewarded Allar with a huge NIL amount.

anything and everything positive about Franklin are, of course, forgotten here

Questions for everyone...

1) How is Campbell's offense going to he different than Franklin's and Kotelnicki's?

2) Related to #1 will it be better suited to a less than mobile QB like Allar?

I am asking this and thinking about Peter Bourque. He is I guess "okay" in terms of mobility. Probably better than Allar but I don't think he is that mobile (I could be wrong on this but it is what I have surmised from reading on this board). So does Bourque fit the Campbell offensive system and what Mouser likes to do?

No, I'm critical of Drew constantly for his misguided loyalty to a man that was using him. He was someone that needed guidance. Terry claims he knew it was a problem and did...nothing.

Franklin didn't care about Allar. Franklin cared about Franklin. The NIL money was to benefit himself. If Franklin cared for him he would have told him to enter the draft.

So you want an assistant coach to tell a player, the starting QB, to transfer to another program? That is what's called a career limiting move, limiting with extreme prejudice.
Smith's first move should have been to convince Franklin that he needed to adapt his scheme to fit the talent of his players--if he's unable to do so then he shouldn't be a coach in the first place. He should have found a new coaching role after that because his opinion clearly isn't valued since a blind person could have seen that.
If that failed, yes, he owes it to his players to have honest conversations with them. If a HC won't hire a coach for doing what's best for the team and the player then he's an idiot. Allar staying benefited no one--and thankfully it, in part, led to Franklin be deservedly fired.
If Terry Smith comes to my house to recruit my son I'm asking him what conversations he had with Drew after seeing this. If the answer is none then I'm not recommending my kid play for him because he's only focused on his best interest not that of his players.

No, your argument is a pile of schit. Case closed.
You don't have a valid reply so you're attacking--I'm used to that with you and others that just blindly defend certain people
Smith failed across the board. He knew the scheme didn't fit the QB, he did nothing to fix the schema nd did nothing to protect the player. He added zero value
You, like Drew, are blinded by loyalty

You’re such the troll.
How so? You all have to pick a lane. I'm clearly not a Franklin apologist. He needed to go and I was vocal about that.
Did you see the OP or not? What did Smith do? Why are you okay with him doing nothing? He failed Allar and the team. Period.

Borque is not coming to Penn State. So your question is irrelevant. We're getting Will Wood. Nowhere near as talented.

Quite often it seemed like Allar was playing tight but he looked much better when we were behind with time running down or late in the half. I definitely agree that Allar was best when he spent less time thinking about stuff. It drove my crazy watching the amount of time he spent reading his wristband in the huddle. In that sense I definitely agree with Terry Smith.

That said Allar came up short in big games even when things opened up. He made some great plays to bring PSU back vs Oregon in the BiG title game but threw a costly pick at the end. He threw a horrible pick to end the Notre Dame playoff game. He threw a pick that ended the double OT loss to Oregon last year. Two years ago he threw an INT that Harrison Wallace should have caught vs OSU, but in the final drive he threw and INT in the end zone to end the game. Some of that tightness could be coaching but a lot of it has to also be Allar.
For a kid with the lowest INT ratio in school history and one of the lowest in CFB history, the number of memorable picks in crucial situations is painful.

Curious for an answer to PSUforever question
Does anybody know what kind of offense Penn State will be running? Will it be RPO or pro style?
