Last year at this time, we thought Spindler would get drafted. Maybe the new OL coach will make a difference
We? He was a backup guard at Notre Dame before the guy ahead of him got hurt. He filled a need for us and gave us better play at guard but especially after his season ending surgery, I figured he would be an UDFA. Somebody could have picked him up late, but guards like Spindler are always available as teams cut their rosters down. That said, I think Spindler has a good chance of getting placed on a practice squad and stick around for a while.

We don’t care about competing in football. It’s beyond obvious.

we boast about our revenue generation and profit margins

and we satiate the masses with f*cking girls volleyball
Ummm. We clearly care about competing in football but our ADs have been too concerned about making splash hires of guys with national name recognition as our head coach. I said it many times before we hired Rhule, I didn’t care if I had never heard of the guy. The single biggest AD mistake wasn’t hiring Rhule. It was doubling down on him with that extension. 😕

Rhule is dogshit at literally everything required to succeed in his profession

Can’t coach
Can’t recruit
Can’t hire

A true F-
Hopefully his new DC and Dana compensate for his inadequacies. It’s our only hope because we’re pot committed.

Our BOR “clearly care”?

Funny way of showing it

It is so sad what Rhule has done to this program and fan base.

We have fans that are like "Well, I will give him more time if he can make a bowl game next season"

What the ****? Who cares about a bowl game. That is such a low bar.

Going into the season Key and Spindler were projected as 2nd round picks. If there is such a thing as reverse player development, by God it is happening here.
I thought some people here said Spindler was going to be a backup had he stayed at ND for another season?

"Rocco Spindler left Notre Dame after entering the transfer portal to secure a guaranteed starting role and championship contention, as he felt his path to playing time at Notre Dame was blocked by an exceptionally deep offensive line roster.

Lack of Guaranteed Starting Job: Despite starting 23 games over his final two seasons, Spindler lost his starting right guard position in fall camp to Billy Schrauth. With incoming talent like Anthonie Knapp (who could move inside) and rising sophomores, Spindler was not assured a starting spot for his final year of eligibility."

Key was a good not great college player but his strength was perimeter blocking. I think that alone may keep him on a practice squad at least. Play error free. Catch the ball. Block your *** off on running plays. Don’t have to be a burner.
I like Key. I guess there is a chance he hangs on somewhere if he embraces being a core special teamer. Personally I didn't see the ability to separate at Nebraska. Big strong kid who WILL get after you blocking. But man I definitely think it's an uphill climb for him.

Any Idea if he participated in Nebraska s pro day and if so what did his numbers look like?

I’m sure he did but I didn’t see his times. 6’3” 215 lbs though. His brother is at Denver and is a special teams standout FWIW. His stats for us were actually really good. Big strong possession guy who is willing blocker. All accounts he is a good team guy. Not a bad WR to have stashed on the practice squad.

Yup, sounds right from what I'm remembering.

So rather than take what you shared, some people here have their agenda and claim that Rhule took a 2nd rounder and turned him into an undraftable player.

Key is a good player. Very solid WR, and who knows how much Dylan's charade at QB impacted his production. Not a game-changer, but like you said could be a solid backup and ST player.

Yeah it's amazing these people just magically forgot about Scotchy's "lost 5 years" where we lost every damn year and had absolutely no hope going into the next season. Now they are suddenly hopeless after a few winning seasons, go figure.

It's amazing what people will gloss over when it's someone they liked or are "one of their own". Vs what they WONT tolerate from an "outsider" or someone they don't like. I'm always amazed...
