We had a year (in the not so distant past) where we didn’t get a single player drafted.

It is both bad coaching and bad recruiting. And now we can add in lack of NIL money as another negative factor going forward.
But heck, at least in two years we are going to have a renovated stadium. Now we can watch us go 5-7 with nice chair backs and bathrooms without troughs.

Player development. And the hapless staff that has not ever heard about that. Iowa had seven players drafted. We had one. Navy for the love of God had 2. Iowa, a **** program for 50+ years puts seven guys into the NFL and we put in one. Congrats to Emmitt for his hard work. Congrats to Dana, the only one on our wretched staff who did not think EJ was a 3rd string player. Going into the season Key and Spindler were projected as 2nd round picks. If there is such a thing as reverse player development, by God it is happening here.

I can't speak on Spindler but there was no way in hell that Key was going in the second round. Not near explosive or fast enough as a WR. Plus can't separate either.

And we are very bad at the portal.

Missouri had six portal transfers drafted (two in the 2nd, two in the 3rd). NU had zero portal transfers drafted. Can't we at least try to compete with the Missouri's of the world?

This is where the problem is . Rhule has been here 3 years you can say his recruits are really not draft ready. I know technically his first class was this year but we didn’t have anybody that was declaring early. The portal is where Rhule needs to be better.

There is not a single draft worthy player from his first class atm except Princewill for another university. He missed on most of that class badly.

I think we would have been much off with Cole Peyton at QB the last four years. 5th round pick of the Eagles.

Sam Scott, RB from Wyoming, was a FA signing for the Jets. He played at Omaha North.

The problem is Rhule is learning all of it on the fly. Same with staffing. And just a general understanding of college football and the B1G landscape these days. And he's doing it all at the pace of someone in "special" classes who rides the short buss.

Meanwhile, he's a f*cking savant at padding his own bank account.

I think you hit Matt Rhule on the head. He promoted from Temple after only barely improving them from their 5 year average wins, he moved on Baylor after only barely improving them from their 5 year average wins, he was the worst coach in the NFL where there isn't much sentimentality and players are adults and see through ****, and then he parlayed his very small college success in the lottery here. He is a smooth talker, and he is an "out for me" kind of guy. I am sure behind closed doors he just reminds his buddies that he is a centinnia millionaire for doing basically nothing.

I think this staff has perfected the "reverse player development" process.
Yeah, the only book the entire staff has read is How to coach College Football for Dummies.

Everyone's copy has different pages tabbed and highlighted so they can discuss it at the next meeting. Some haven't even read the whole book yet. They'll get to it though and when they do, look out.

We don’t care about competing in football. It’s beyond obvious.

we boast about our revenue generation and profit margins

and we satiate the masses with f*cking girls volleyball

Rhule is dogshit at literally everything required to succeed in his profession

Can’t coach
Can’t recruit
Can’t hire

A true F-
Can’t argue with this. A total failure all around. I’m so sick of the back to back bowls argument. When they need to schedule Akron and Houston Christian to achieve the monumental goal of 6-7 wins.

Spindler was good for us but the only reason he was a starter at Notre Dame was an injury. Key I believe will stick in the NFL as an UDFA.

Key was a good not great college player but his strength was perimeter blocking. I think that alone may keep him on a practice squad at least. Play error free. Catch the ball. Block your *** off on running plays. Don’t have to be a burner.
