I am planning to take my granddaughter, who plays softball, along with the family to the duke game tomorrow. I have never been to a softball game at UNC. Can anyone suggest how early to be there for seating purposes, exactly where the field is located and possible parking? Thanks in advance.

Stadium is part of its own complex off 54 just past the 15-501 exit when driving into Chapel Hill, parking shouldn't be an issue. Can't speak to seating personally

Remember Megan does not have the resources to get quality pitches like most top ranked teams in the nation. If our top brass at UNC would just help with some money, we can be beating Duke more. This should prove to everyone that Megan and her staff know what they are doing, they have change the culture of UNC softball, and she is doing it with very limited resources and help from the top brass. Her and CB are in the same boat as far as not getting the adequate resources to climb their programs even higher. That is why when some poster criticize her about the pitching, it is kind of hard when you are not dealt with the playing cards to get great pitching like the big time teams in softball, but you expect her to perform miracles with little to no help to get the job done.

Jriv23, I think generally the board is pretty happy with how the Softball program is shaping up since MSL took over. I’m certainly very happy. Cementing ourselves as a top 30-45 type team, huge step-up in quality of the offense, transfer hitters coming in and blossoming, consistent battering of lower-level teams. These are all big positives.

I think some of us are just trying to figure out why the pitching seems to be lagging, and the barrier to us becoming a consistent top 15-30 team which is the next step.

You clearly see it as a money problem, which is definitely possible. Softball doesn’t get any rev-share so I think the money would have to be from specific supporters to fund NIL type deals. Probably only so much the Athletic Dept can do. Maybe FSU, dook, VT, Ville, Stanford have more funding. I don’t know the facts but definitely possible.

it could also be a chicken and egg thing. The best pitchers want to go to schools where they have the best pitching development, but it may be hard to prove good pitching development until you get some of the best pitchers.

Or maybe we need to improve the pitching development.

Maybe it’s a combination.

Some SEC schools pay the top pitchers-like real money

Thanks, mpaer for the insightful information. That was very helpful to me because I just could not figure out why our team could not get better pitching to come in.

On the other hand, I feel very confident that teams like dook, Stanford, UCF, Washington, UVA, south Carolina, Grand Canyon, Louisville, and VT have no more softball player resources than we do.

Getting solidly within the top 10 is likely unrealistic with our current finances, tradition and fan support. But there is plenty of space within the top 25 for the teams mentioned above, and thus for us as well.

Lyons has us on a great upward trajectory; no complaints here. We fielded a team of 2/3rds slap ballers just 3 years ago with zero chance of beating a decent team. This team now has legit top 25 offense. We are going to win some games like the dook middle game.

Next step is to find two really solid pitchers, or even just one great one. we can worry about holding onto her after she has a breakout year. But no, we are not going to buy any world series level starting pitchers. Only 5-10 schools are doling out stupid money. and we are not going to beat them in a bidding war.

FSU built a huge lead in the first inning, we looked a little Intimidated. I thought we were going to,get run ruled.

but by the 7th, a pretty bad base running error was the only thing that kept Lagette from coming to the plate with an opportunity to tie the game. Not saying the game was close; it wasn’t but it was getting interesting

45th in RPI after last weekend, we have SC today and then VT this weekend. Cannot go 0-4, 1-3 probably means we need a good ACCT, would really like to get 2-2 or better

I'm not sure I understand why Dark became the 3rd pitching option this year. She had a good year last year. She has the best WHIP of our 3 regulars, the best ERA, she walks opponents at the lowest rate, 2nd best SO rate, and the best batting average.

I understand her numbers are worse than last year, but they still look better than everyone else's.

Because she gets rocked every time she pitches against a good opponent.

We give up double digit runs to ranked opponents in the teens and 20s consistently. Would sure hate to see a top 10 team would do to this pitching staff. UCLA or Oklahoma may drop a 20 spot on us in a single inning.

Unless we win the VT series, I am not seeing how we get in this year. One of the best offenses in the country, yes. But some of the worst pitching in the country. If we do get it, it'll be likely one of the last spots. We got in last year with no ranked wins (I believe?) and we at least have two of those so far. But RPI being where it is, it's gonna be tough. Not a great result when the team was very vocal at the beginning of the year that their goal was to get to a Super Regional this year. We certainly had the offense for it.

That loss was a serious roller coaster ride. Brutal. We were literally one strike from a 2 run win in the 7th but UofSC got a base hit to drive in two runs. then the meat of our order was retired in succession in the bottom of the 8th.

We scored in ALL of the first 6 innings. with 8 runs IN ONE INNING, but could no close it out. no runs after the 6th. That could have been a NCAAT clinching game, or at least close to it.

Nothing seems to be working well on the pitching side, against good teams. Today we scored 5 runs in our first two at-bats and were down 7-5 at the end of 2. Currently 10-5 in the middle of the 4th

i’m actually not complaining, General pitching seems fixable with time. It’s just a little crazy this year

We all know what the problem is? It is the pitching when we play top level teams. Our offense can hang with anybody. There is only one way you can fix the pitching problem. It comes down to the money point blank and NIL money for softball. Our leadership / brass are going to have to make a decision. We have a very good coach and a very good staff, but if they don't have the correct backing, I do not care how good the coach is, this is what is going to happen every year. CB has been stating the same thing about needing more money. Megan needs money to bring in better pitching. You guys have done an excellent job of explaining how the money is distributed, I get it. So, since the softball cannot get any money to help them then this is going to be the norm for now. Moving forward, I will not be getting upset when we lose to the top rank teams whether it be in the conference or in the non-conference. Money drives everything including sports. This is where we are at.
