And because we’re forced to pay him starter money, just like we did for a bunch of role players last season. At this point, does it really matter if it’s Pope, JMI, or both? Kentucky basketball is broken.
How much are we paying him?

I think a lot of our fans were spoiled by Cal and getting 5 stars all of the time. It took Pitino a minute to get Mashburn , and then it was on. Do I have faith in Pope ? Not really, but I am rooting for him. If he doesn't get it done ... someone else will , but Oakland beat a team loaded with NBA players , and so did St. Petersburg or whomever ... We need a good team. Tubby had our overall #1 seeded UK team getting beat by the refs and UAB back in like 03 ... but that team had Auizibuke , but the main guys were Eric Daniels and Chuck Hayes ... am I saying Pope is the X's and O's coach that Tubby was ? No, not yet anyway. Let's see how it plays out.

I personally think the kid fits Mark Pope’s supposed offensive system better than Freeman did. He’s a better shooter, and will open up the floor a little bit. He needs to make a big jump this year, though.

I am old school; one that believes you can learn even when not speaking by listening. So I like reading all the comments to see how others feel about whatever the situation may be.

With that, I have no clue on which player is 5* or 3*; I go by what is mostly posted on RR.
Well, that was before the merger. Now it seems RR has much more negative comments than positive ones. Some of that is due to the current state of UK basketball and I get that. I am frustrated myself.

With that said, I used AI to answer me a simple question: Name players ranked outside the top 100 in the transfer portal that went on to be big factors in their teams success. This is what it said.

Who is ranking these players? Who is to say they are not wrong based on just these four players?

Seems we have many fans who think they know more than the so called experts. Maybe so but it sure seems you can not take these rankings as being set in stone as for as a players ability.

One thing that is for sure and that is the old RR had many good posters who would post information that was much more centered on fact and not outhouse speculation and opinion.

Maybe we need to wait until all the dust settles before we call it a failure.
We're Kentucky & should go for & get the best players but there is diamond in the rough players all over, coaches that can identify them will have more success on average. We need outside shooting, McBride shoots the 3 at 40% so it can't be all bad.

Cmon dude. Weak. This is a good rotation piece. I don’t think he’s the starting PF
He’s not the starting power forward we don’t have a power forward and then you say we’re not eating leftovers. Where’s the starting power forward gonna come from sure as hell it looks to me like we’re eating leftovers because you don’t go and recruit a guy to come off the bench when you have no one to start at that spot. So right now yeah he’s recruiting starters man these aren’t backups.. the back starting train has has left the station man were left with the backups

We seem to be targeting both Stokes and Momcilovic. If we get one of those they will be starters along with Kam, I’d imagine

McBride isnt coming to be a backup. He was the staff's 3rd choice at PF , McBride will be a starter and he's good enough to do so. His only downside is 6'7 , can he defend and score against the tall front court lineups like Florida
Did he lose an inch since he started being mentioned with us?

I don't think he is good enough to start, but it doesn't matter. He will be the starter (if we land him).

Bring him in and try to recruit over him or recruit competition. Someone takes the job.

Did y'all recruiting gurus checked where players ranked on the 25 Florida team prior to going to florida, or the 23 UConn team before getting to UConn thanks. We have moreno who was top 25 hs, hawthorne top 50 hs last year, Kam, top 50 portal he is loaded with potential and prior injury playing good ball, zoom/wilkins both top 45 portal, well add one or two good players id sey. This guy could be good. Sometimes ratings mean jack.

Same ol pope sucks, his recruiting blows. This guy on campus didn't get injuries half of the season either like freeman. We missed out on wright, freeman and rancik so far. If he lands one to two really good players id say we are pretty good. Hawthorne could be really good. Didn't play last year because of being too skinny.

Those teams have a future hall of fame coach n Hurley and a really good one n golden. We have neither.

How much difference is there between player 50 and say 150? That's 100 players and odds are high that there's not a lot of difference in many of them. If every one of them had actual equal ability they would still be ranked 50-150. Should be clear that the 150th is not really 100 measures worse than 50th

This is literally how things went last year: over paying for our 2nd/3rd choices and fielding a starting five of overpaid role players.

and we still have half the thread insisting it’s fine because other players have produced way above their ranking in the past. Well.. a helluva lot more of those lower ranked guys didn’t do that. For every Walter Clayton Jr., there are hundreds of duds. But cling to hope however you can, I guess.

This roster is guaranteed 15-20 losses and who else are we gonna realistically add?

I really don't think we're going to be bad. I rewatched the UConn vs Furman game again last night. I really believe in Wilkins' upside. No reason he can't be the next mid-major to major breakthrough guy like Dalton Knecht, Mark Sears, etc. I recommend watching him play again, ignore the ranking and watch what skills this kid possesses. I think we have a LETHAL backcourt. We are about 1-2 top level guys from being a problem.

I’m actually open to the idea that Wilkins is the type of guy to make the leap because he seems to thrive against the big time.

While we’re discussing the roster, I’m really not as big on Moreno as others. I feel like he really exceeded some low expectations, but I’m just not seeing all-SEC/NBA prospect out of that guy that others seem to buy into. Just a serviceable piece imo. I’m much better at analyzing/rating backcourt guys admittedly.

Same ol uk orthodontist getting high on his own supply. Where was Clayton ranked in portal for iona, what about Antonio reeves? Guys continuously crap on players that wanna come here. Bad fans.

And then wonder why recruits don't want to come here, a school that runs the coach into the ground, and starts on players, before they set foot on the fkn floor. Yeah I would really want to go to Kentucky for that Bulls.hit. Good thing money can be a factor.

I don't think Moreno has to set the world on fire. Just predictable FR-SO growth is enough to really help.

I'd recommend checking out some Zoom Diallo today as well. I haven't watched as much Diallo as others have (work has had me busier than usual), but I've heard great stuff and the little bit I've seen, he stands out immediately. Some guys have a certain listed size but then you see them on the court and they just look and play JUMBO. Diallo is a big guard, and when I say a big guard, I don't just mean the 6'4" body -- I mean he uses that size regularly. He pulls up in mid range alot and just shoots over dudes. Reminds me of Shaun Livingston in that regard, if you remember him back in the day for the Warriors. He's not slight the way Livingston is though. Both Wilkins and Diallo are better passers than anyone we had last year. Early in the UConn game, watch Wilkins make it just past halfcourt, immediately notice the defense has squeezed some, make a picture perfect dime of a pass from the right of center court, zip all the way to the deep left corner for a wide open three. His teammate missed the shot, but the idea of having two guards that can pass like that is mind blowing to me. We just need a good PF for me to feel much better.

Because Pope has proven he can not only identify but also create a roster of the same caliber and coach them the same way…

Weak? lol.

McBride is the No. 49 power forward and the No. 185 overall player in the On3 Transfer Portal Industry Ranking. On3 ranks McBride as the No. 51 power forward and the No. 177 overall player in the transfer portal.
UK men’s basketball is doomed with this current coaching staff. It is what it is, sadly.

Plus I don't think they dona great job of rankings freeman was on a 15 win Syracuse team and managed to miss 12 games a year. Yeah James Madison isnt better but I think he'll be a good back up and play 20 ish minutes. Better three point shooter than freeman for sure
If he is the back up are they going after Graves or Momcilovic those are the only 2 left
