Hang around GDead_Tiger and you apparently learn something. I had never heard the word "Shahada" until I noticed it in your post, above. I Googled the term, and discovered that the Shahada is the Islamic profession of faith, and the First of the "Five Pillars of Islam."
Your comment that we need an "American Shahada" was interesting. I agree that we do not have one. Neither the Pledge of Allegiance nor the Preamble to the Constitution constitutes what I would call a profession of basic American principles. Moreover, getting a supermajority of modern day Americans to agree on that would likely be a difficult task.

Clearly not, but there should be some meaningful pathway to citizenship. And, although some waiting period before the grant of full citizenship (or even legal residency status) is appropriate, it should not be so lengthy as to make citizenship a sham. A twenty-five year wait effectively deprives many immigrants who arrive here in their middle years of ever becoming a U.S. citizen. Similarly, there should be some agreement on the kinds of benefits and rights that immigrants should and should not enjoy prior to becoming citizens. Legal immigration should be preferred, and governmental benefits that are afforded to noncitizens should be largely limited to legal immigrants. (If noncitizens are expected to pay income, sales and property taxes, should they not receive at least some of the benefits that those taxes are funding?)
Illegal immigrants should be denied a broad range of governmental benefits, in part as an inducement for them to seek to immigrate legally. Some quantum of public health benefits might be appropriate, if only as a means of protecting general public health. Illegal immigrants should also be eligible to drive, because they would drive anyway, and many of them would so so without either a license or auto insurance. Licensing them makes them easier to track and regulate. That already happens. A thornier question is what limits should there be on an illegal immigrants' right to employment. A categorical prohibition on employment is not practically viable. No U.S. citizens are employed in picking fruits and vegetables. The construction industry (particularly residential construction) would cease to function if it could not hire illegal immigrants. It is illegal now, but that law is completely ignored.
It is also clear that we cannot be home to every person in this world who wants to immigrate here. These are issues that need to be discussed and negotiated in good faith by members of both parties. It is most likely to succeed if they have a small delegation of Congressional moderates from each party who have demonstrated some degree of goodwill toward members of the other party, and who feel a genuine sense of urgency toward procuring a legislative solution to this problem.
