I think "closing the border" is a complete nonsense issue tbh. If anything we should welcome more immigrants. We need an "American shahada"
Hang around GDead_Tiger and you apparently learn something. I had never heard the word "Shahada" until I noticed it in your post, above. I Googled the term, and discovered that the Shahada is the Islamic profession of faith, and the First of the "Five Pillars of Islam."

Your comment that we need an "American Shahada" was interesting. I agree that we do not have one. Neither the Pledge of Allegiance nor the Preamble to the Constitution constitutes what I would call a profession of basic American principles. Moreover, getting a supermajority of modern day Americans to agree on that would likely be a difficult task.

So what is the status? Walk in and you get full citizenship?
Clearly not, but there should be some meaningful pathway to citizenship. And, although some waiting period before the grant of full citizenship (or even legal residency status) is appropriate, it should not be so lengthy as to make citizenship a sham. A twenty-five year wait effectively deprives many immigrants who arrive here in their middle years of ever becoming a U.S. citizen. Similarly, there should be some agreement on the kinds of benefits and rights that immigrants should and should not enjoy prior to becoming citizens. Legal immigration should be preferred, and governmental benefits that are afforded to noncitizens should be largely limited to legal immigrants. (If noncitizens are expected to pay income, sales and property taxes, should they not receive at least some of the benefits that those taxes are funding?)

Illegal immigrants should be denied a broad range of governmental benefits, in part as an inducement for them to seek to immigrate legally. Some quantum of public health benefits might be appropriate, if only as a means of protecting general public health. Illegal immigrants should also be eligible to drive, because they would drive anyway, and many of them would so so without either a license or auto insurance. Licensing them makes them easier to track and regulate. That already happens. A thornier question is what limits should there be on an illegal immigrants' right to employment. A categorical prohibition on employment is not practically viable. No U.S. citizens are employed in picking fruits and vegetables. The construction industry (particularly residential construction) would cease to function if it could not hire illegal immigrants. It is illegal now, but that law is completely ignored.

It is also clear that we cannot be home to every person in this world who wants to immigrate here. These are issues that need to be discussed and negotiated in good faith by members of both parties. It is most likely to succeed if they have a small delegation of Congressional moderates from each party who have demonstrated some degree of goodwill toward members of the other party, and who feel a genuine sense of urgency toward procuring a legislative solution to this problem.

You appear to be on the right track, kidmike41. I welcome your reply.

“You and I and everyone else who supported him — you wrote speeches for him, I campaigned for him — we’re implicated in this for sure,” Tucker Carlson said. “It’s not enough to say, ‘Well, I changed my mind’ or, like, ‘Oh, this is bad. Like MTG, I've always thought that Tucker's cheese has slid off his cracker. But you Trumpians have to really hate this. Tucker used to be your boy to the point that you were on your knees daily, banging your heads on the floor and screaming: "There is no God but Trump and Tucker is is Phophet."

Why do you love it?

You could have Vance (or Rubio, or really any other prominent GOP), but you get off on this stupidity? Somehow this is qualifying to be president in your mind?

This isn’t presidential. It’s an octogenarian sitting alone in the corner because he sh*t himself again, forgot his meds and won’t stop rambling on about irrelevant grievances from days gone by.

If this was your elderly uncle at your house acting like this you would be telling his kids they need to put dad in a home.

Sorry you don’t like his personality. I happen to like it because for years we had republicans like Paul Ryan from Wisconsin that would constantly fold and let us down. The resulting policies were DEI and a resulting lurch to the left of the Overton window by democrats.

Trump came along and calls it like he sees it, and I love it. Democrats tried to perfect what was “allowed” to be said, cancelling anyone that didn’t agree with them. Getting the government to censor their speech on Twitter. And that lead to DEI and the Tranny nonsense.

So forgive me if I love america, love the first amendment, love to see debate, love to see **** talking. I hate people that walk on egg shells with what they say. Talk about it so we can hash it out instead of burying it. When you talk about it, common sense will prevail. See the tranny nonsense. Ever since we can openly ridicule it, the numbers of trans have fallen off a cliff.

Just so I have this straight:

We are once again mired in the Middle East because you got offended when someone told you what pronoun they prefer and Trump gave you tacit permission to call those people “fаgs”?

In what world are those remotely equivalent issues?

We spent over $200 billion in Ukraine. Leaders from both sides are retarded and get us into terrible positions. This isn’t isolated to one person or party. Stop pretending it is.

My post addressed Trump calling people out, not Middle East policy.

I’ve already stated to you in another thread, I think Trump is doing a great job, minus Iran. It appears he miscalculated on Iran. It’s not nearly enough for me to want to support democratic policies and anyone thinking Kammy would do better is a complete idiot. She is that bad.

To summarize my point, I like Trumps post. I like how he calls people out. I don’t think he is always right, I just respect the dialogue and back and forth. That’s just me, I understand a lot of people like others who just sit down and shut up.

not kidemike, but out of curiosity, why do we need to or want to invite legal immigrants who we have to put on government benefits? We're $40trillion in debt and do we really need more dependents?

And, why do we need a path to citizenship for all legal immigrants?

We don’t need them. They want them here to vote. It’s obvious. Name one other reason the party that hates men and patriarchy want to usher in millions of men from the most patriarchal places on earth. It’s always been a power grab. Roughly 47–59% of non-citizen-headed households (a mix of legal permanent residents and unauthorized immigrants) used one or more traditional means-tested programs. For immigrant-headed households overall, rates were around 53%.

They come here with kids, or have kids here, and go on welfare. It’s suicide.

I have no doubt that many of his supporters share your views. Most just won’t admit it like you do. Instead they talk vaguely about supporting the “policies,” not necessarily the man. But more than anything they love the juvenile trash talking and making it ok to be more open about their bigoted views.

It started with the tea party. Loud. Obnoxious. Shock techniques. Then trumpy got the nascar lovin’, unwashed hillbillies all riled up and tricked them into voting against their own interests while enriching those around him. To be fair I’ve never cared for that demographic and it’s unfortunate we let them out of their holes. For lady liberty’s sake we need to find a way to stuff them back in. Time to make being a conservative great again. Because this current crop? Yuck. Traaaaaassshy.

George W. Bush reached an all-time high approval rating of 90% on September 22, 2001, recorded by Gallup News. This rating is the highest ever recorded for any U.S. president in Gallup's historical polling, driven by a surge in national unity following the September 11 terrorist attacks

Closing the border is a must. I am pro immigration, and I want congress to streamline the process, but we can't just have folks streaming in with no clear path forward. The ICE raids were stupid and we have argued about that before. It was my hope that with enough public backlash to the deportation that it would force congress to get off their butts.
Unfortunately the Republicans did that in the 80s under Reagan and the Dems welshed on their side of the deal. They will do it again, because their core policy is to import as many people as they can to create dependency and what they view as Dem voters in the future. Trump and others should make it hard to be here illegally and force illegals to self-deport. With everything going digital it is doable.

Of course you conveniently ignore how they actually vote so you can fear-monger about importing Democratic voters. Maybe if you focused more on winning their vote, you wouldn't be so afraid of them. You had them where you wanted them in 2024 and now you've blown that all to hell. That's on you.
