On the one hand, Alabama football is so profitable it can cover all the losses and still make money (bonus for SEC schools who have fewer than 20 D1 athletic programs). On the other - their baseball team loses almost $5mm a year. Taxpayers in Alabama should be irate but I'm sure they're too busy queueing up for Bear Bryant tattoos at the local parlor....

I may not have gone to OSU to play school but I did go to Alabama to play Golf.

Since the facility was built with donations, it didn't cost the University anything. In the meantime the money that was spent was circulating through the economy in the form of jobs, contracts, products, etc. It doesn't sit in someone's vault waiting to be counted over and over again. Oh, and a lot of egos got fed, if not minds or starving Africans.(whose warlords would have stolen it anyway.)

Believe I read that Alabama received $14 million in gifts toward the cost the facility. The remainder was borrowed.

The most shocking part of this piece is that 'sick' is still considered to be teenager-speak. 👴

I know someone who was a varsity golfer on scholarship for University of Alabama in the late 70’s. I bet he would have loved to have had that facility.

No, they just skip dental and healthcare insurance to pay for everything.
