What do you mean nobody? We snagged and now held on to Joey Matteoni!
I know you're joking, but I don't understand why people get worked up over the last couple guys on scholarship. These are basically just warm bodies that will never play or have an impact on the game. You need to fill out a roster. If you happen to have great players sitting in those last few spots not getting PT then they won't be on next year's roster anyway.

Exactly. They act like if we get rid of him a star player is waiting to be the 12th man.

I was replying to a post about nobody wanting to come to Iowa. Whether you guys believe in his skills or not, he 1000000% wanted to come to Iowa.

Because they went after a bigger fish. The Kansas big.
I was really hoping for a really good scoring guard. I like Evans and Coleman ok but If that's it for guards I'm going to be a little concerned who can create and get their own like Stirtz could

Interesting that Banks has declared for the draft and entered his name in the transfer portal. I figured he would want to return, I know there were a few off-court issues but he would have been in a more prominent role this year without Stirtz

He wants to return but since the NCAA is slow as **** when making decisions he’s covering his basics. Iowa may get a portal player to replace Banks if the decision for a 5th year is either denied or drags out too long for Iowa to wait.

He’s entered the portal because he doesn’t think he’s going to be granted the extra year of eligibility.

He can still come back to Iowa if he gets the extra year.

I'm no expert on Coleman but he sounds like a solid prospect. Here is some info I found on him:
  • At IL ST he averaged 10.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists while shooting 41.6% from 3-point range (on 89 attempts).
  • He only started 19 of his 35 appearances this season, but he made the most of his opportunities. Coleman posted 15 double-figure scoring efforts on the year, including posting 16 at USC and 17 vs. Auburn in the NIT semifinals.
  • He is being pursued by several schools including KSU and Nebbie.
  • He has 3 years of eligibility remaining.
Pretty solid freshman year! I think he would look great in black & gold!!

As of this morning, Duke has 0 portal commits. Kentucky and Kansas each have 1. I guess nobody wants to play for those schools either.
I can’t believe how breathtakingly stupid a lot of these comments are. None of these chicken littles have the first clue about what is happening behind the scenes. None.

My guess is BMC is very meticulous about evaluating available talent and factoring in how to make the dollars and cents work to the maximum possible benefit. In other words, BMC has the luxury this year of being able to take his time and not have to overspend for an (i.e.) Hausen or Alvaro.

Also, BMC is hitting the high school ranks hard. They have gotten a fourth visit from a 2027 prospect in the top 50, a four star, who seems to be the staff’s top priority recruit for that class. I don’t know where Iowa stands with that kid, but I do know in BMC’s first year at Iowa he convinced two highly rated high school kids to commit to a program with a history of relatively mediocre basketball dating back at least 25 years. Oh, and did people already forget about the recruiting win for Coon?

No, none of that does anything to address portal needs for next year, but it does mean BMC has already proven he can recruit better than Fran McCaffrey (as some have tried to assert).

In other words, mother f#ckers need to CTFO and let it play out.

I'm curious why Carson isn't considered an option. I like his size and numbers.
From WDM Valley and played at DMACC a couples years.
32 MPG 11.9 PPG 6.5 reb 2.9 ast 1.6 steals
48% fg 38% 3's 80% ft
Because maybe, just maybe, the staff does not feel he would help the team. Big difference between DMACC and the BIG.

Mccollum's not big on the rent a player train. Was forced to last year just trying to build a roster (Hausen and Folgueiras). His focus is HS kids and sprinkling in a few transfers to stabilize the roster. You wont see 10 new players every year under Mccollum. The guy knows what he's looking for, just let him do his job. He's building a program

I agree to an extent, he’s not going to be successful here building 50% of his roster through the portal. However, he’s got to get a very good lead guard and good Center this portal season. If he doesn’t, next year is going to be a struggle.

Banks really didn’t have a choice. He doesn’t know if he will get an extra year … and McCollum can’t just sit and wait with the portal open now. Banks won’t be drafted … but his fate in the hands of the NCAA - whenever that decision comes re: and extra year. Would like to see him land back at Iowa.

Is McKeever committing just speculation?
