Hard to tell to what degree guys are using UK interest to bump their NIL offers from other schools, that certainly seemed to be happening last year. Nonetheless, it's the job of Pope and his staff to turn their possibly-fake interest into real interest, one way or another. It's a tough position to be in. You look like you're losing on all these recruitments which, maybe, you never really had a shot to win in the first place.
Meanwhile Pope's former school is getting the guys we want, UofL is loading up, and Kansas appears to be in position to sign our only possible marquee recruit, even though UK has most of the advantages you could want in that recruitment. Our players and their families are trashing and/or mocking the program on the way out. We lost Chandler, who was arguably the most likely returner at the end of the season, and seemed like he would be a legacy Pope player. We're still short one assistant coach.
Maybe I just woke up in a kind mood today but I honestly feel for Pope right now. Yes--he's paid more than enough to soak up the tears. Still, from one human to another, this has to be an incredibly frustrating time for him.
Anyway. Today would be a great day to get a commitment from Zoom Diallo.
