Yet not for the rest of the free world.
Almost everyone in the free world makes decisions that create their scenario. Just like those who were deployed signed up for it. Doesn't mean they can't be homesick.

Do I care he's homesick? Nope but he's allowed to be. Just petty that some feel some kind of joy in it but...

There's nothing wrong with guys being paid but it's how the system exists now because people refused to pay them back in the day when they could have controlled it. The players (especially football/basketball) are worth more to the program than the education they're receiving. That's just reality. If schools would have simply agreed to pay the kids what they deserved it would all be different now. The greed of the schools created this--now the players greed has complete control and the programs no longer have control.

Think about how ridiculous it was that a program could refuse to allow a kid to transfer to a different school--that's exactly the type of control that ruined this.

I have read elsewhere that we are in the upper-middle class for football NIL - likely top 15-20. This article proves College football is spiraling out of control. If he is being truthful, this is just sad. Our entire NIL plus revenue share budget is $30m. We’re never going to offer the amounts cited in this article for top talent, and this is why we have to play Moneyball to a degree with recruiting and transfer portal.
Uh, no it's not a reason to play Moneyball like that. It's sick. We have enough sickness of the same type in this country. Change your tune. And now condemn me.

Insanity reigns supreme in college football. They shoot horses don't they.

Yeah, and that's why it's hard to feel too badly about any of this (I will say there should be some kind of government oversight into public schools paying players tons of money when their mission should be to educate and invest in education for it's citizens; Rutgers for example should have it's entire athletics department shut down and reopened as a club level regional participant). Coaches getting millions of dollars only to transfer on a whim was no big deal; now when players do it people care? Spare me. It's sadly a 'one season at a time' enterprise now; next year's team will almost certainly be totally different. I recall hearing a story about the great Joe Paterno ripping up a player's transfer papers because he didn't want the player to leave.

You're paying for it either way. You think your tax dollars are only going to government employees and programs you dislike? Next time you're in Great Falls I'll take you to all the houses of guys who run contracting/consulting companies who built their $10mm mansions on government contracts....

And we don't need more; just the ones we have doing their jobs.
