Don't join because you want insider access. Don't join because you want player interviews. That's just extra. Give because you want to see State compete in this horrible and ever changing era of college sports. All this is doing is replacing the Bulldog Initiative. It's the cherry on top after rev share to get athletes to come here - which is what the Bulldog Initiative turned into after the State Excellence Fund started.

So many moving parts right now - it's hard to keep up. I'm giving the same amount of $$ that I did previously. As I've said before, I just cut the pieces of the pie differently.

I was convinced to switch my contributions from Bulldog Initiative to State Excellence by Bulldog Initiative personnel in November of 2024. I agreed & did so. I also increased my contributions. I am at a complete loss now as to how to proceed. I am glad that I got 1 year of State 1878 access with my football season ticket renewal. There should probably be some individual communication with folks in similar situations from a combination of Bulldog Club & State 1878 personnel. MSU Athletics & associated entities need to do a lot better job of communication.

I don't understand this. I mean, giving to SEF is contributing directly to the department, which most likely will go to NIL. At least until we get to the 20.5M. Giving to 1878 will go directly to players. So it's pretty apparent that they think they will need more than 20.5M. Maybe Charlie can come here and break down that math. Maybe the SEF can draw interest once the 20.5M is extinguished? That would be cool if it did.

Seems to me the message is clear. Give to all of it.

To the tune of: (In the Arms of an Angel)

For just $8 a month, you can sponsor an overpriced athlete who can't make it on 6 figures a year and will disappoint you on the field. He needs a new Dodge Charger to park in the driveway of his house that is already being paid for by NIL.

And that's not all! We'll throw in an autograph if you'll up your donation to the top level!

I just don’t feel like a big grassroots effort of a number of people giving $10-20 a month solves the issue. I don’t feel like our fan base is big enough for it to, at least. If I sign up today and I convince my 10 closest friends and family to all sign up, that’s what, a couple hundred dollars a month? Is that really changing the game here?

It’s hard to feel like you’re making much difference unless you can afford to give enough to where it really hurts your wallet. And that’s just not in the cards for me in this phase of life as I’m trying to raise a family and afford the necessities, while also trying to pay off debts and save for the future.

State 1878 is just another botch by our athletic department. I get what it is, but its so confusing. Bulldog Initiative, State Excellence Fund, State 1878. I like Robbie - this isn't on him - but he was hired to captain a ship doomed from the start.

I hate what college sports has become.

It isn't a botch as much as it is keeping up with our peers.

I don't think they are planning on making large sums of $$ from the subscriptions. This is to replace the Bulldog Initiative. That's really all it is. They will hit up the same people they have been talking to for the larger donations. It's better than just giving $100/month with nothing in return. Don't harp on it being something where they expect to break the mold of fundraising at $8+/month per person.

Like people have said, this is a way - as of right now - to circumvent the College Sports Commission (CSC).

Wait, what? Is this replacing something? I thought everything was being handled thru BDC now.

I was giving monthly to BI and at some point that switched to BDC. Are you guys saying it’s changed again? I’ve got something like 20,000 unread emails and I’m sure it’s in there somewhere but I don’t have time to research this, just like I don’t have time for a different message board.

The Bulldog Initiative never stopped after the State Excellence Fund was started. They were still raising $$. I will admit - it ain't the clearest but I think we are trying to be proactive as can be with all of this.

In summary, there are two fundraising arms for Mississippi State NIL
  1. State Excellence Fund - that is used to fund the revenue share which amounts to over $20 million payroll
  2. State 1878 - this replaces the Bulldog Initiative where you can pay the players for appearances, interviews, etc.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

This is the damned problem. No one knows for certain because they are not even communicating with the individuals that are contributing. We all have to make assumptions. All I know for certain is that they want more money above season tickets for football, basketball & baseball, required Bulldog Club contributions for football, basketball & baseball, and contributions to the State Excellence Fund.

Multiple schools in the SEC alone are already doing this. How is that a botch?

It's obviously not a botch. It's us trying to be creative and proactive, like any small school in a large, ultra-competitive league needs to do. Yes, there are growing pains.

About it being confusing having three entities - you're a smart guy, I'm sure you'll figure out which one to give money to (or not). We are dealing with an evolutionary process. A lot has happened in the last 5 years. Not even the NCAA knew what would come out of pandora's box when they opened it. We're all figuring stuff out as changes come flying in.

Robbie isn't the captain.

I agree with your last sentence. It's a mess, but it's a mess for everyone, not just us poor old dumb folks at State.

It’s a shell game I believe. Legitimizing the service as a media company to provide a front for the collective. Or it looks like one at least. The sportsbook revenue flows into the collective disguised as memberships. Regular donors receive memberships on the house. That clouds things up a good bit. Not enough tho.

The next thing we will come out with is StateBet.
It works out good for us because we get to share the revenue with the alabamas of the world. When someone bets on
StateBet will not only allow you to bet on State teams or your favorite athlete, you will have prop bets like:

Amount of *** the stadium cups smell like
Number of empty seats in the Hump
Amount of time stuck in traffic after football game

I bet State basketball will lose every single game against the spread.
Hahaha we would lose money on the juice somehow.

I think this is intentional. I think the dumb system is still set up such that it requires all the schools to pretend this isn’t all direct pay-for-play, when we all know that it is.

I’ve been on message boards since my freshman year of high school and I am 40 now. I can remember being on VolChat in computer class while everyone else was playing arcade games and I can also remember i think it was called DAWGS BITE & it was a recruiting magazine, I think. This new form of message board that State has come out with, I can not get down with especially since NIL is ran like a ******* zoo. Until it gets fixed, I will participate.

Only in America can we have our priorities so screwed up that in an effort to find some…any…joy in life we’re willing to throw money at kids formerly known as “student-athletes” who are now not much of either one.
