Desmond is a long-term 133. Love his competitiveness in going up 2 weights, gotta also temper expectations with how awful his 141 schedule was: 3 jabronis who went 0-6, 1-10, and 7-16; plus an OT win over Ragusin (11-7, DNQ, 2 bonus losses at B10s).

Barring some significant imports, B10 141 is gonna be a dumpster fire. Vombaur, Bailey, and then a massive drop-off to Lemus, Clark, Porter, Sement, Parkins, etc. Even undersized, Desmond should be the 3rd best guy in the conference. (OTOH, Blaze is a slam-dunk B10 Champ who will place much higher at NCAAs.)

If he goes 141, hope his return to 133 is more Conaway or Bartlett than Bouzakis.
Did something happen to Davis that I'm not aware of yet? I have to assume if PSU put anyone other than Davis at this weight that Cael believes they can be a very high AA. PSU wrestling is so spoiled a guy like Davis is just treated as a throw away. I think he can be top 5 at 141 next year.

Top 5 may be a little optimistic, maybe just AA.

In either event it is certainly not a forgone conclusion that if Ono went 133 and Blaze took a redshirt that 141 is some giant whole. Davis could have better lungs with an entire year and I expect he would also be an improved wrestler by next year as most PSU guys seem to improve as the career advances (unlike some other schools we know of). I think Davis is a pretty darn good wrestler but maybe that is just me.

For a long time, NCAA women's basketball had zero parity. Glad those days are gone .. right Geno

the NCAA has only had a women's BB championship since 1982, so far less than the 92 years it's staged a wrestling championship.

In the relatively short time (compared to wrestling) that the NCAA has conducted a women's BB championship, 17 different schools have been crowned champion. The longest streak of consecutive championships is 4, which UCONN attained 1 time.

Just a little context for the comparison.

A lot of folks expect him to shirt this year and then succeed Van Ness at 149 in 2028.

Otherwise the 2028 options for 149 have to be either (1) Blaze can move up; (2) Herring or Perry or Weiss or Hayden show significant progress this year, including some of them moving up to 149; (3) Mangano is ready as a true FR; or (4) we import someone.

Agree. I think Herring might be that guy. Just a hunch.

This is pretty cool. Charts showing NCAA point scoring by state. Play the “Racing Bar” and watch Pennsylvania start to dominate

https://wrestling.guru/state-power-rankings/
Spoiler alert for Ranger Dan: PA took the lead in 1982 and never relinquished it.

Also recommend looking at the table. PA's best year was 304.5 pts. The best year by any other state was Ohio getting 201.5 pts -- a full Minnesota behind PA.

I'll never forget listening to college football scores, in the car, on the way home from a PSU football game. Had to be around 1979, and the guy pronounced Juniata as 'Juan Nita' . We still laugh about it to this day!

Good news for wrestling though!
You should have heard some of the announcers pronunciations of East Juan Nita from coco la moose(Cocolamus)

Quinten Wright is coaching at Tyrone HS just 1/2 hour from Juniata. He would be a great hire.
Sure, assuming he'd be willing to drop his full-time HR director job near Clearfield and possibly move his family -- they live 30 min on the other side of Tyrone.

Isn't Beitz close as well??
Neither of them. IIRC both have executive jobs in the Harrisburg and Lancaster areas. Seriously doubt either would be interested in being a D3 wrestling coach.

Maybe some location confusion, since both graduated from Juniata HS near Lewistown?
