He was a McDonald's All American. Maybe he was a 4 star (right on the 5 border) as Shey pointed out but my point still stands. He's not Goldwire. He wants to start.
Him and Rippey would do damage at attacking the rim . Down side would be the inconsistent three point shooting from both. We will see what happens but Cayden would do wonders for Duke coming in off the bench running the second unit .
Watched the Nike hoops summit and our guys didn't look that great especially Williams. He's too thin and don't seem to have that dog mentality. Looked kinda soft out there

Yeah, this is why I don't understand people saying he can't come off the bench. Cayden and Caleb (if he were returning) would work better in my eyes with Ron Ron backing them up.

I don’t watch either games anymore . The hoop summit or the all American games. They are glorified pic up games for NBA scouts to watch that’s pretty much it . I wait to see what the players do on the court in actual game settings . I will say this though. He’s not coming to Duke to come off the bench. He’s the closest thing to a natural pg Duke has had in a while. They aren’t known for scoring it’s the defense these guys bring in the class.
I'll be short Rippey is 0 chance not coming off the bench no clue what the rest of the guard situation looks like. He has a college made body with literally John Morant athleticism o and he is a dog on defense n can get to the basket at will. Duke hasn't had this type of pg in over a decade. Trust Jon n his roster building process.
I for one hope Jon plays the best players and everyone has been bemoaning relying on freshman but now we want him to give the starting job to a smallish pg fresh out of high school in a weak class and expect to contend? If he doesn’t like his role he can leave or he can stay an earn it
Yeah, nothing is given, everything is earned. Watching his highlights, I think he has potential, but give me Cayden and another veteran guard like Caleb or Blackwell any day of the week. Nothing against Rippey; I just don't see a day-one starter from him or any of the other freshmen we have coming in. First time I have thought that in a long time.

If they leave wouldn’t that mean they didn’t think they could beat out a freshman ? Without even getting on the court with him . It is a weak class in terms of versatility amongst players but Rippey is a defensive hound at the head of attack . I don’t think he has any intention of coming off the bench and funny he stayed committed knowing Foster and Cayden may still be at Duke .
I’m not making proclamations on who and won’t be starting and who will be on the roster. But the prevailing thought seems to be Duke isn’t allowed to have more than 2 guards or everyone will be mad and leave. I just want to win.

Some said the same about Kon. Duke isn’t going to get everyone out of the portal they want with out sacrificing returning players . So Jon has to figure out is he going to stop recruiting five stars and recruit the portal or if he’s simply going to build around five stars out the portal. This week is the final week to enter the portal . So Duke will know who’s transferring by weeks end . To me Rippey takes a lot of pressure off Cayden being on the court with him and the same with Foster . Yet. Duke won’t get Blackwell with Howard coming in and Foster and Cayden staying .
If he thinks they’re staying at Duke I would also assume he understands he may not be given the starting role

All three play the same position but Rippey is more a true pg then combo like Foster and Cayden . We will see who stays this week . Like I’ve said , Duke needs four true guards in the back court. Ok we agree. I hope that is his mentality and let the best man win. Either way he should play a lot. Duke needs 4 guards. However they get there doesn’t matter to me. But they clearly were significantly hampered this last year when the only guard depth was a poor player in Harris when Foster was hurt and nothing behind Pat.
I think it’s the former for this particular offseason. And the number of players they seem to be linked to would back that up or a mass exodus is coming next week
I hope he's the second coming of Kyrie minus the foot injury. But I'm not seeing it. He's a good defender, can drive, and his passing is solid. His shot is janky. I hope he's everything everyone says and more. I think having Caleb or Blackwell paired with Cayden excites me more.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. If I remember correctly, no one saw Kon starting a few years ago, or being the player he was.

Man we as Duke fans are spoiled that we are not overly excited about the #1 pure PG in the entire country coming in.
Yes his shot is off but no more than Caleb’s or Cayden’s . I don’t want shooters . Every year Duke recruits are supposed to be shooters. I don’t want another Evans . He got hounded all season . Give me attackers to open up the perimeter and lanes. Help your bigs out . I don’t need Williams banging down low he’s not Cam but he does have a jumper. This will pull the double team from down low opening up under the basket for whatever big Duke has at the five or a pass out to a shooter or slasher . Don’t need 30 three’s a night just need capable shooters to hit the open shot . Duke will be tall and long again no question but you need options to spread the ball to. Rippey being on the court allows for Cayden or Foster to play to their strengths . Just like last season when you played both of them together . I think the deference between these recruits and the last , despite the talent is they are already defensive minded allowing for more time to spend on the offense early on . Let’s just wait and see how the roster plays out .

Just saw that as well. I know he's good but honestly I'd rather have a 7 plus footer out there. You can't teach size. Tarris Reed from UConn was dominating everyone but couldn't do much scoring wise against Michigan's Mara.

Smith isn’t a PG- he’s a CG. Rippey is #1 rated PG in the country.
Louisville seems to be a school that is willing to be the highest bidder in the portal the last few years.

Depending where you look and who you talk to Smith is currently the number one sg and McCoy a combo . Smith will play pg at Arkansas. Much like Acuff.
