Sounds like Herrera to Rutgers.

Good for them ... but holy hell Rutgers stinks at recruiting heavies. Their last recruited HWT starter was Billy Smith in 2016.

Since then:
- 2017, 2018: Razohnn Gross -- Rutgers football walk-on who joined the wrestling team as a JR
- 2019, 2020, 2021: Christian Colucci -- Lehigh transfer
(homegrown Alex Esposito wrestled when Colucci was injured in 2020, and had 9 total matches in 2021 + 2022 -- he was a fill-in)
- 2022, 2023: Boone McDermott -- Iowa Central CC transfer
- 2024, 2025: Yaraslau Slavikouski -- Harvard transfer
- 2026: Hunter Catka -- VT transfer
- 2027, 2028, 2029: Daniel Herrera -- Iowa State transfer

It's too bad for Rutgers that New Jersey has recently produced so few good college heavies like Anthony Cassar, David Szuba, Jimmy Mullen, and the like.

Kyle Dake???
My uninformed $.02 is Kyle stays at NLWC until he no longer wants to compete. Makes a phone call and moves back to Ithaca as the HC. Right now I think he is enjoying himself.

Now Cornell might not be too happy with the current state and change his mind for him.

If Okie State can quickly pivot away from John Smith, just about anything can happen

Toss in Penn State's own Jimmy Lawson and lehigh's Zach Rey as a couple more good ones.

Good point, looks like Rutgers should end that hwt recruiting drought with #8 Zalota.. he’s only a jr too and should be the #1 ranked at hwt next year as it appears..

Assuming Zalota doesn't flip now that he'll have to sit behind Herrera for 2 years (or shirt + 1 yr).

He's a good prospect but I wouldn't get hung up about him being #1 at the weight next year. The 2026 class departure will drain 215/285 of most of its talent. This year he'd be behind Ross, Mocco, Merrill, Bechtold, Brown, Alvarez, Effendian, and Taylor at least. Possibly also Calcutt and Boger. Still a good prospect, but not #1 in the country.

Him flipping bc of Herrera would be a real shame. Just saying he might be RU’s best recruited hwt since Billy Smith bc u mentioned it. I was surprised that he’s the highest ranked jr at hwt.. so I just assumed he would be #1 next year once sr graduates? Who do u have has #1 Hwt next year?? I just said Zalota bc that seemed most logical.

It depends on who moves up.

Of this year's 215s: Mastny, Boyle, Konopka, and Hodgins would all be higher ranked if they move up. (They're also IMO the only 2027 top 25 guys at/above 190 lb.) Mastny and Hodgins look like college 197s, probably not going HS 285. Less certain about Konopka. Boyle is probably a college HWT. Otherwise not seeing a lot of 2027 candidates.

If nobody moves up, then as of today Zalota and Mielnik are probably HWT 1a and 1b and could go in either order. Mielnik beat him this year but then Zalota won National Preps. But Hazelett (2028) is right behind them and could pass both with a good offseason, and is a better college prospect.

Yeah, to sum it up, I would not be happy if PSU was counting on Mielnik or Zalota to carry the torch for us for multiple years at 285. Whether they were ranked #1 or #20 at the weight class.

They are fine recruits for RU, but I wouldn’t pass on 3 years of Herrera for fear of losing either if I were Goodale.

Anybody have an idea on why Vincent Robinson is leaving NC state, with Hidlay coming back you'd think that would be all the more reason to stay or is that why he is going them not seeing i to I. Plus he won a title there i know he came up short this year but it still seems odd.

Crookham is such a roll of the dice.

High ceiling, could be a finalist.

Low floor, cold be injured and doesn't wrestle in the post season.

Also the unfortunate luck of recruiting Kyonte Hamilton who went on to have success on the football team and was drafted in the 7th round

That's probably the biggest reason.

Should also note that Nebraska has better lightweight training partners, and while Lincoln isn't close to home (Chicago), it's 5 hrs closer and can be done by solo drive.
I'm not sure Robinson cares about this, BUT, the turkey hunting and duck hunting are pretty darn top notch as well...
