I thought the Barrett tweet the other day might have been referring to some of the numbers ($) getting tossed around with the Iowa players were lots of fiction--too high. Probably a struggle explaining that to recruits looking for a bag that never happened.

Recall Whiting playing against Iowa last year in the BYU game, so went to have a look. A lot of interesting things to watch from that early game in the 24-25 season.

*Heiden getting the start in her baby deer days.
*Stremlow in an early start covering for Lucy (lacerated knee).
*Guyton with a lot of minutes.
*Stuelke hitting jumpers and a 3pt. shot to start the game.
*Mallegni minutes.
*BYU with an Audi impersonator at the 5.
*And Whiting with a good game, running point, playing for her mom/coach.

Really? That's not what's been discussed around here. What is your source?
Suspect it's from the Skim discord and/or chat board.
It's been reported on Deal from $350k-$400k.
There's another poster on Skim's discord that reports these #s on other IA boards.
I've never heard these outrageously high #s on Deal except on this board.

Hawkbuck seems to have some solid info. He is saying $500K for Addie. I think $750K is high. Bottom line her and Emely freed up around $800K or more.
Where did HawkBuck70 state $500k for Addie? He's only had two posts since coming back. Not saying it's not here. I don't see it.
It's been thrown out there that the Deals wanted an increase to $500k and more PT for this coming year.
If true, that implies Deal was getting less than $500k last year.

Also last I heard SpinRod was $290k. I suspect between the 2 if was $700k or less. Although, we're close enough for this exercise to be in the ballpark of each other.

I'd take that story with a grain of salt. I think you suffer from JJS (Jan Jensen Syndrome). Not sure you've ever had a positive thing to say about Jan.
Most of that story could very well be true. Not everyone will connect with our recruiting pitches. Maybe they have moved on from the CC stuff as they found it wasn't resonating. Coaches and recruiters can learn and improve just like players.

Addy Brown listed 3 schools. Iowa not included. Notre Dame was one. TCU gets another.
TCU will be on a lot of players list.
TCU has big oil billionaires to throw bags around.

That same coach at TCU was a recruiter at Oregon before going to TCU.
He had a big billionaire (Phil Knight - Nike) to throw bags around there also.

So if you had the bag backing as he did at both places, you too could become a genius recruiter. ;);)

Clark is, and will probably always be, a reference point. Pretty sure it isn't the sales pitch, however. I mean, still, regardless, this exists:

Not every player is going to come, and they will nit their way to any decision. No big deal.
As for the coaches being unable to articulate? Translation: "can't guarantee you will start."

I've seen they've already landed 3 big names and they're listed as landing spots for several others.

I haven't looked thru many of the posts here, so what I have heard may have already been covered. Hare from Iowa St. has already visited (yesterday, I believe). She has interest from Michigan. Hare would be a good replacement for what McCabe offered. Can shoot the 3, has quick release and spreads the floor for Iowa. That was missing after McCabe got hurt. Iowa has interest in Speiser (K-State) but the rumor is her price tag is steep (maybe too steep currently). Iowa appears to be all in on Carnegie from Georgia. Carnegie and Chit-Chat played together with Florida Essence (AAU) and went to G-Tech for a year together, I am told. Addie Deal was unhappy pretty much from the get-go and was not happy about coming off the bench. She let her 5 star status go to her head in what she was entitled to and what she actually needed to earn. Someone has to replace Kylie's minutes and if Coach Jan didn't promise Addie those minutes, then that tells you a lot about the evaluation of Deal by the staff. Callie Levin simply wants to play and the staff doesn't feel she is going to get the minutes she wants, so she is moving on. From another source, I hear she began looking around elsewhere before the season ended and it became well known she was doing so. Intel tells me that Iowa can afford 2 higher priced transfers, but the rest of the roster may need to be some really good mid-major kids looking to play at the next level. Carnegie would be a great get. She can make plays, especially in crunch time with the shot clock running down.

It was time for Journey and Divine to split up and Divine has some family in Illinois. Those in the know thought Divine was going to select Illinois all along. Her going there now is no surprise.
Thanks Hawkbuck - appreciate the insight you are hearing. Its definitely a different world and game than even 2 years ago. Definitely a bit of wild wild west action. A true scorer in Carnegie would be nice who both Chit Chat amd Barrett are familiar with , but we would have 2 shorter guards for defense. If Speiser is out of the Hawkeye's price range so be it. Carnegie and a SF/PF of starter quality to pair with Houston and Wolizcko would be nice.

Its going to come down to what is the bench going to look like. Hare is a nice 3 point shooter of the bench. Probably a few other options as well.

So nothing then. That's what I thought.
When have I claimed to have any info on player salaries? I questioned where the number for Addie came from so there is no need to be a smartazz.

I was on the old board, I listened to Brad's interview, I never heard Brad talk about numbers in any specific reference, He used general terms like he believed the women's program was near the top in regard to budget in the Big Ten. I never heard him give numbers in regard to players pay.

I know Josh speculated on Addie's deal, I also know there are people that seem pretty well connected that have said that number was not accurate. Bottom line I don't know.

I have scrolled back three pages but can't find it now. There is another post saying $500K also. I don't know who knows other than a few at Iowa and the player's side.

Who cares what she got. She's gone and so be it. She did not impress me that much in the HS McDonanld's game. She is a good support role player, not a dominant one.

I did not say anything about what any of these girls got for $$$. What I have heard is that Iowa is "more willing" to spend more on a transfer with one year left of eligibility than it is to spend big money now on a player with multiple years of eligibility left. Because you will most likely have to pay them again and again if they have success. That is why someone like Hare from ISU is attractive because one, she fills a need and the money isn't too excessive and she is done after this next season. But, I still here that Iowa is willing to spend bigger money on 1-2 transfers with multiple years of eligibility.

I don't exactly know what you mean about Divine and Journey needing to split up. Not following the thinking on that one from anything I have heard.

I was told the same thing about Deal...she wasn't happy all season.

Thank you for your post.
As you know, Divine and Journey went to high school together and played summer AAU together for years before Divine left Attack and Journey got hurt before her last summer of AAU. They certainly co-existed and got along but many felt they wouldn't attend the same college and that it was time for an amicable "break". So, I was alluding to the question of would Divine transfer to Iowa. I felt, from past intel, that it would never happen. I could give more specifics, but it would not serve anyone at this point.

Thanks for the confirmation.
Thanks also for the encouraging insight on "bigger money" coz that needs to happen to close the gap with the top tier of the NCAA. Realize Jan has done a very good job keeping up with the top tier of the Big Ten. However, it's my assessment we have not replicated that success to the next level and that's towards the top of the NCAA. I can only see us closing that gap is if JJ steps out of her portal comfort zone and goes beyond the past two years at least with one player as a proven starter and preferably a second one who has a good chance to start based on completion for it against our remaining core.
Again, thanks for your invaluable insight regarding this portal season.

I was in Palm Springs for a meeting the last two days and Wednesday afternoon I was sitting in the hotel lounge with an Iowa shirt on. A gentleman walked up to me and said I see you are a Hawkeye fan. Long story short, he told me his daughter was recruited by JJ to play basketball at Iowa. She was a top 100 player according to ESPN. Naturally, my thought was why didn't she commit? He spoke kindly of Iowa, as a family they liked the city, the players were friendly to their daughter and the fans were super. He then explained why his daughter chose not to come to Iowa. He said the moment they entered Carver and went on the court, the discussion was about Caitlin Clark; her jersey in the rafters, her number on the floor, etc. JJ pointed out where they hold their "circle".That turned his daughter off because this was history not the present or future and the talk of a circle and culture did not resonate with her.Later that day his daughter told him, I'm really not interested in CC as I will never play with her. In a discussion with three of the coaches they asked about their basketball philosophy and such. According to him, their daughter thrives in a fast paced structure. Again, according to him, JJ did not effectively delineate a strategy. They asked more specific questions and never felt JJ had a solid grasp of their style of basketball. He never felt that JJ was as effective of a communicator as she needed to be as a coach of a major program. Finally, he said money was not an issue with him or his daughter. All she wanted was to play basketball and believe that her coach would further her career, and his daughter did not get that vibe. I will say, I looked this girl up. She is a first or second player off the bench and had a nice, but not stellar season. Now should I believe everything he said, who knows? But his daughter plays at a strong program, that I can verify.
But you won’t tell us what program? Seriously? Lol.

In a perfect world Iowa might get:

Dani Carnegie (500,000)
Jordan Spieser (500,000)

One of these three:
Anete Adler 6'5" forward
Tilda Trygger 6'6" forward
Nunu Agara 6'2" forward (300,000)

And one from this group.
Amari Whiting, Hannah Wickstrom, Sophie Burrows, Camryn Runner, Ellie Brueggeman or Kaylene Smikle
(375,000)

Sorry about that. You didn't make that claim, but you inserted yourself into a conversation by answering the question that was directed at someone else who did make that claim with another question. I saw a handle that started with an "S" and assumed you were the same person without paying much attention.

I also don't claim to have any knowledge on payouts other than what's been reported by others on this site so who knows what the facts are other than money along with guaranteed starts was probably a factor in Addie deciding to leave the program. I'm not nearly as broken up about it as some others are. I think those dollars can be better utilized elsewhere.

I dug up the photos I took during the Georgia vs Virginia game. At that time I didn't know any of the players would be of Iowa interest. I did pay attention to Kymora Johnson since she's the known commodity. Well, I found a couple of photos of Dani Carnegie! She's paired against Paris Clark, the other Virginia guard that's taller than Johnson.

Ok. I never heard a word that they needed a break but I knew pretty early on Divine didn’t want to go to Iowa. Like, Iowa was dismissed out of hand. Surprised she even took a visit. Thank you.
