I like CC but I’m fine with him leaving as well. He’s definitely not worth 3 million and I would like to see him come off the bench if he does return. Neither of those are likely, so it’s adios!

Why not ask for 3.2 million? Can you blame him? Because you ask doesn’t mean you’ll get it. He’ll just take whoever offers the most money between BYU and Kentucky. Simple can’t blame the kid.

Can’t bring him back. Stick to your guns, coaching staff. Use that budget for guys that you believe are making agreements that match their value.
Hard agree. He went to the portal expecting to get rich, BYU laughed at him. Time to just let him learn a lesson and take what he can get to play somewhere else. Or offer him half of whatever we were offering before he decided he was Lebron James.

This puts to rest the notion that BYU came to him with an offer for UK to match.
My take is that his wife wants him in Utah and as a compromise he said I'll go back to Utah unless I can get a big payday to stay at UK.
UK called his bluff and now he has to take BYU's best offer or crawl back to Pope.
BYU is under no pressure now since there never was a bidding war for his services.
Has 24/7 or On3 gave Colin a portal ranking yet?
Can't see him in top 50.

Why not? Because sometimes when you want to sell something (in this case, he is selling himself) and ask an absurd price, your potential buyers tell you to **** off.

Best case scenario, Chandler is the 4th leading scorer and about 6th or 7th guy in the rotation on a Top 10 contending team (so long as there are really good guys ahead of him). Trying to force him to be more than that is dicey. Of course there's always a need for that type of player.

Is that role worth 3+ million dollars, though? Depends on how much money there is and what kind of mood the folks funding the team are in I suppose, but IMO I think you could find something similar (or better) in the 1-1.5 million range. I'd offer big for 2-3 legitimate stars and moneyball the rest of the roster with guys that excel at a certain role.

If they would make the portal like the NBA and require multi year contracts, that would help. No way should we have players playing 5 years and going to 5 different schools.
I would like to see the schools self regulate better versus restrictions on the kids. All these coaches bemoaning the portal when the schools are the actual problem.

The NCAA limits roster size and scholarship numbers. Why not simply implement some restrictions on the number of actual transfers a roster can have? Say 20% (or whatever makes sense) of the roster can be transfers including JUCOs. Schools would have to do a better job recruiting/retaining and developing. Kids are still free to move but would drastically limit the hopping every year. More importantly, coaches would actually have to do their job versus simply poaching.

Last year I took my son and 3 grandsons to Rupp to see us play Bellermine. I wanted this boys to see and hear Rupp Arena.
we had a good time, went to Joe B's for breadsticks and stayed at the Hyatt. I took them around campus and showed them where I stayed when I went to UK.
I don't begrudge anyone form making money. If you can do it, go for as much as you can.
But, I mean, how can any average joe (which I consider myself) afford to pay the ticket prices for these guys now making millions as players in college?
It's so far out of line with what folks make in Kentucky a year that it makes me sick.
I want to win, sure, but I can't pay $1000 for lower bowl tickets to allow my grandkids to see the action up close.
Now I'm hearing of players getting $7-10 million a year?
SMH. This whole trend sucks and it's robbing kids of going to see our teams play.
I guess it is what it is but damn.

we are in the top 2 for the #1 ranked PG
we are in the top 3 for the #1 and #3 ranked PF

clearly not everyone.....
Pope was in the top two for a laundry list of guys that he missed on the last two years. Getting in the door isn’t the issue, it’s closing the deal.

you know what, I'd just rather not know what UK is giving these kids in NIL money

and if they were smart, they'd drive a 2011 Toyota Camry and not ever give a hint to anyone how much bank they have while they are here.

Everyone would get along so much better

Jasper Johnson's Uncle would blab it on twitter though
Yeah right, half these guys would flaunt 100k in cash on Twitter or TikTok. I’m shocked one hasn’t been robbed yet honestly.

Oweh was the only reason we won half our games and our only tourney game. Come back 00 please. With a legit PG again and someone who can shoot.
Another viewpoint could be that Oweh was so intent on showcasing himself for the NBA that we were never able to field a cohesive offense....

For a fair amount I would want him back. Everyone here dogging him out for negotiationing for more money are both hypothetical and nonsensical. You would all do the same and you would council your kids to as well

I legit said this was probably gonna happen months ago and said I bet BYU comes in. and boy where are all those laughing emoji guys? Night stalker or whatever his name is hasn’t shown up I see.

Hope he doesn’t think this is the only time he’s been wrong.

Chandler is going to kill it at BYU under an actual coach who knows how to utilize him. Pope was TERRIBLE with Chandler this year, God awful. Everytime he’d get got Oweh would go hog and pope stood there like a moron. Chandler left wide open all year. We traded 3 points for 1 all year (Oweh can’t finish, fouled, hits 1 free throw while Colin was standing wide the F open). Chandler was turning into one of the best 3 point shooters in the conference and lost it because Pope just sucks. Long 7 minute stretches where he created nothing for him. And he lost it.

Pope is one of the worst roster managers and recruiters I’ve ever seen. God help you if you’ve been backing him, you’re about to really begin to question how much you understand. Sorry just the truth.

Half the truth.
Opponents definitely made a defensive adjustment to not let Chandler get an open look just because he was set up behind the NBA line.
Most of the SEC slate, coaches were willing to play the percentages and let him take the deep three until he proved he was money out to 25ft if Ieft open.
Chandler's success at BYU will depend a lot on who they get to run the point and what kind of teammate Branch is.
