I have read elsewhere that we are in the upper-middle class for football NIL - likely top 15-20. This article proves College football is spiraling out of control. If he is being truthful, this is just sad. Our entire NIL plus revenue share budget is $30m. We’re never going to offer the amounts cited in this article for top talent, and this is why we have to play Moneyball to a degree with recruiting and transfer portal.

$10 MM is a bonus if the school offers his major.

I’m watching d3 girls lax at Goucher in a few minutes I’ll ask superstar Riley what her nil is

big Pete’s Riley block tallied 7 points in a tough 13-9 loss. She has a $300 nil

Unless I'm misreading this...no one offered him "over 10M"...he's just stating he could have gotten that. We're spending way more money than most think. All the transfers did follow Campbell for free

Tell him to show us that offer in writing. Until then tell him to go pound sand. 🤣

Blissfully done with college football. I like to stop by the board for the occasional thread that summarizes my dissociation with it, along with some of the amusing comments. I'm more interested in beaver dams than Beaver Stadium nowadays.

Now we are talking NFL money. This is somewhat more than the first year value of the contract for the first overall pick of the 2026 draft!

If I'm managing the roster, only way I offer any player this kind of money is if he makes my team a national champion.

the party is over, turn off the lights

I keep hearing how NIL and the portal are ruining college football yet, somehow Indiana just won’t the NC. Doubt that would have ever happened without NIL and the transfer portal. It was also the highest rated championship game since 2015.

Don’t get me wrong, I consume TONS of college football, I love it. I just don’t love PSU like I used to cause why bother, the traditions and pageantry are dead.

Chaz Coleman got $3.5M out of Tenn. May not have been a good investment. NIL is nuts and not surprising that it does not always work out.
You'd think the benefactors could contract for certain expectations - or have the athlete face a sliding pay scale. If all this money is always up front, and without a single hitch - that is nuts.

Lots of money and immaturity don't mix well. So they're considering moving one of his family members to Knoxville? I guess his family advisors or "handlers" didn't plan on this.

It is absolutely insane that he got that amount of money. It’s even crazier that already in spring practice he’s not “ locked in” and the article has to give reassurances that he’s not yet kicked off the team.

I don’t believe it is permitted to be tied to any expectation of football performance, but I could be wrong. In any case, this story is just outrageous and perhaps we are better off that he left.

Yeah a 19 year old kid homesick. I was homesick for months at that same age. Fought thru it and came out fine. I am confident the kid will be ok.

I didn’t realize he is playing for U of Guam. He is about 7 hr drive from home. 🤦‍♂️
For some people 7 hours is nothing. For others its everything. I was that guy that had never an issue with homesickness but many people did. I knew people that went home every weekend for a while. He's 19 in a place without a true support system with a lot of pressure. Self created but nonetheless a real issue for him.

This must be bad if they are writing articles about it. It reads like he can barely practice and or his performance is way off from expectations because he is homesick. If he left could he join another team and get to keep the Vols money while getting money from the new team? Or is the portal and transferring closed?

This whole situation you don’t see all that often, reads as being very extreme. Anxiety can cripple people; with all this attention on him right now, dang. I pray for the kid, hope the situation has been exaggerated. But no response from his camp so far, amirite? Could mean anything.

Dang, not easy for the kid.

I’m thinking of George Plimpton’s book Paper Lion and he mentioned that the competition is fierce, it’s a living for these guys. What with the NIL money a certain “You’re here in Knoxville trying to take my job, take my money? We’ll see about that, my dude” attitude is gonna be there, absolutely.
