I had Paglia’s pizza as second best in Iowa City when I was there in the early 90s. My favorite pizza was at a bar called the Sanctuary. Airliner would be my third choice.
Totally agree. Unfortunately the Sanctuary must have been sold to new owners several years ago, because their pizzas changed to something more generic, but price was still high. They had the best sausage , must have been made in house or made for them from a recipe. Wish I had that recipe!

There really should be a bigger push for more trade schools across the country. A good boat mechanic straight out of outboard school is good for 100k to start, same with anyone working on Electronics.
I live in coastal VA, ship building is big business. There is the Apprentice School in Newport News that has an NWCA wrestling team, we had a few kids from our high school go there who are pipe fitters and welders and also wrestled. After school they walk right into a job across the street.

Union tradesman for twenty years here. I would strongly suggest going to your local hall in the trade you are interested in especially in Des Moines. If you get in, training is paid for if you stay working for a set period of time afterwards. Inside wiremen journeymen for 347 makes 45.45 a hour, 10 per hour into your 401k put in there by the contractor not you, 9 something a hour goes into your health and welfare so you don’t pay for health insurance and you can bank the extra. That’s just the base after you turn out.

It certainly isn’t for everyone, but it is an excellent option if you work hard, have a good attitude, and show up.

The problem isn’t really in the availability of trade schools, programs or support. Allof that exists and more would be made available if needed. Business has been screaming for a coupe decades now about the need for increased participation in the trades. I personally developed a program 15 or so years ago where a person with a record could pay nothing, get the training needed and then be almost guaranteed a job where they could in a course of a couple years make 6 figures. Very little participation. There have been concerted efforts to market the trades as a valid and valuable career option vs college. Still doesn’t seem to have shifted the tide. Check out the Be Pro Be Proud campaign. It is an excellent effort that is supported by great people if you are interested. I don’t know what the answer is but the impact of AI is also going to be significant on this.

I’m not too sure AI will impact the installers. I could see it affect the engineering firms more than anything. I’m sure it’s being utilized in the field for schedules, but there are way too many variables on commercial and industrial buildings. I’ve ran a lot of jobs big and small and they never go as planned lol. From materials, equipment, personnel, utilities, shipping, owners, pandemics, etc. and multiply that by all the different trades on the job, it can be a real **** show at times.
So in short I’m not disagreeing about AI, I just don’t think it will impact as heavily for us rum dums.

I was more of a Falbo's guy because of the late night delivery. And I lived across the street on Gilbert from old Vine in the apartment's just north of the Plasma Donation center.

The old microwave cheeseburger at that corner convenience store was also clutch.

Man I miss living in that area and that city. 1995-2000

The Mill on Burlington was great and the place on Gilbert, can't remember the name, where the Owner would play Ragtime a night or two a week.....late 70's into the early 80's

The Vine was certainly good too

That is not the AI impact I am thinking of. More of all the white collar and middle managers that will need to find new employment. In the short term it maybe also drives an increase in the need for trades.

I’ve been an electrician for 37 years Local 292 Minneapolis. Hourly rate is $62 a hour plus benefits. I always hire former wrestlers because they understand hard work. Look for bad ears out of the gate. 4 year degrees can no longer keep pace with the trades. More state run colleges should get on board now because we will have a lot of open jobs in the very near future.

Imagine being able to wrestle at Iowa and also learn to be an electrician etc. I really don't understand why that isn't a thing at more schools. Its not a hard concept. Better than a Liberal Arts degree to mow lawns after graduation.
No 4 year institution is giving a less that 4 year route of education. 30+ years ago Iowa had a partnership with IHCC and high schools for electronics. 2+2+2 to get a bachelor's degree. I forget what the bachelor major would have been, maybe general studies?

I remember The Mill. Was that place on Gilbert called Fitzpatrick's? Down by the old vine. Had a very small little back courtyard type seating.

Hey, I was just acknowledging you for adding nothing to the conversation. You're welcome.
So, Ben trolls Iowa and the Brands brothers, everyone loves it to the point you have posters openly wanting him to take over as Head Coach(which anyone with a brain would know that was essentially impossible). But, post a video where he says he believes Ferrari ends up at Iowa and that adds nothing?

Hypocrisy much? Go figure...which of course I KNEW would be the response and pointing out said hypocrisy was the ENTIRE point...

The Mill moved around some. Last I remember it was on Burlington. Had good food and music a coupla times a week. The music was usually just 1-3 people, and lower key than Maxwell's

I think the difference is where he is a considered an expert. I don't think he has any idea of where AJ is going nor does he know the innerworkings of Iowa's AD or coaching room. I do think he can diagnose wrestling techniques and strategies as well as teach wrestlers how to deploy those or determine them on their own.

Dude...his post was fine. I mean it wasn't exactly insightful but whatever.

I was giving you a little crap about posting it here two days later, after the very subject was once again rehashed here.

To be clear, I LOVE most of your posts. Please remember I take nothing personal on here and just love to get things going. In truth, none of these posts were really about you. If I recall, you even pointed out how impossible Ben being an actual part of Iowa actually was.

I simply love to point out hypocrisy, especially when it comes from those that have a special place in their hearts for me on here!

Oh, and as far as 2 days later goes...it was a kind of sort of special holiday weekend with Easter/Spring Break mixed in. As hard as it may be to believe, being a father on a travel vacation takes priority!

And I enjoy many of yours as well. Heck, I very much enjoy even many/most of @WEH8ST8HAWK posts. I just wanted to be clear my comment wasn't really about anything he said, or his video. (Though if you want a comment...not very insightful. Meh at best. But I also know wrestling is his life and he has limited involvement right now, so be it.)

Now stop trying to play nice.

The ones that like him don't have enough brain cells to realize he's just another troll desperate for attention.
