Rutgers Basketball forward Dylan Grant to enter Transfer Portal
Rutgers Basketball forward Dylan Grant announces that he will enter the Transfer Portal after two seasons with the Scarlet Knights.
He definitely went backwards here. Maybe another coach will help.
You must mean as a bench player.Curious to see where he ends up. He's probably best suited for a strong A10 program.
Is somebody gonna pay him $1 million to play for them ? Have they watched any of his games ?
This team desperately needed production and leadership from him. Instead they got..........

At a lower level, sure. He’s not meant for the BIG.His best is ahead
Well now it is official. We need an entire frontline. 2 power forwards , 2 centers and an impact wing or big guard that can play the 2-3 positions. Pike needs 5 impact portal players to team with Francis , Lino , Kaden , Davis and Wooten as well as Buchanan. Good mix of returnees and new portal guys. Pike is on the clock. $10 million is nothing to snooze at . Time is now.![]()

We need grown men on the frontline line. The winning model is playing 2 of them together. They need capable backups that don’t cause such a drop off. If you watched any of the lower conference tournaments there were a ton of kids on the frontline that were functional , could shoot at the basket , dribble and drive on a short roll. We need at least 3 but preferably 4. I do not really care if they are all equally talented and do not need one stud that will break the bank. $4-5 million for those 3-4 players that are not presently on high major teams is doable. Leaves plenty of $ for an impact wing or guard and the returnees. No compromise on not getting a frontline. Pike doesn’t get it then it is a failure before the season even starts.I don’t think purchasing true seasoned “back ups” in the portal is in the cards. The starting center and forward are going to cost us half our budget, realistically. We’re going to need to aim for versatility. Probably a PF who can play minutes at center along with sliding Buchanan over for short stretches when we can get away with it.
I think beyond this we’re looking at adding only one more seasoned player and then filling out the roster with cheaper developmental guys (hopefully well scouted). Of course, if J Mike or Lino move on, that changes things and then maybe we’re adding 2 more players with solid experience. Just don’t see our budget allowing for more than this. We seem to be looking at pure PGs which tells me one of them may be leaving. If we keep both and Tariq, I’d rather se us targeting lengthy wings with handling skills that mid-major PGs like the Merrimack kid.
Grant didn't regressed, he wasn't good last yearI really don't think Pike has developed many players in 10 years, but shouldn't Grant's regression cancel out say someones improvement - Grant/Mag for example?
Agreed but this all falls on Pike and staff. Constantly recruiting kids who are not power 4 players and does nothing to develop them.Grant didn't regressed, he wasn't good last year

The element of the statement Shelby disagrees with was ‘strong A10’. Strong A10 is on par with RU and Grant couldn’t cut it here, so he’d be inadequate there too.Against weaker competition he was a lot better (even in the UNLV game). I think he’ll start wherever he goes in a weaker league and put up nice numbers then we’ll have a collection of threads talking about how Pike failed to develop him (like Wolf). He turned out to be a recruiting miss at the BIG level. Full stop. Doesn’t matter what he does in a weaker league next year.
Ok I guess. Maybe he couldn’t play for St Louis. I don’t actually think St Joes was “strong”. Who did they beat? Thats the 3rd place team. The element of the statement Shelby disagrees with was ‘strong A10’. Strong A10 is on par with RU and Grant couldn’t cut it here, so he’d be inadequate there too.

Pike great guy but NOT a Power 4 level coach and drastically overpaid!
one more season
Yeah sure. All of that sounds great. Unfortunately, I think you are drastically underestimating what FMV is for competent centers and power forwards. Seton Hall’s Hines is far from a proven super star. He played 18 mpg and put up 6.5 ppg / 5.5 rpg in a weak BE. His asking price has been reported all over social media at 3M.
For perspective, if EO is eligible, there’s a non-zero chance he’s able to collect close to a 7 figure check from a bottom half A-10 or MWC type team. Hes not close to BIG level starter, but he grabbed more rpg this past season than a kid whose asking price is 3M.
Realistically, a 10M budget is going to mean any back up bigs that get added to the roster will have a past like Fall in the portal, or will be Euro roll the dice types like Denis, or late frosh pick ups. We will not be able to afford better seasoned back ups. My preference would’ve actually been to add 3 front court players (one a point forward type with handling skills) and not target guards at all but that doesn’t seem to be the plan. But 10M only goes so far.
I think they finished exactly how most expectedThe team outperformed the talent on the roster in most of his seasons - yes, 24-25 was a debacle - but the discounted, young squad we put out there this year finished with a final record that was above what the talent on the roster would have dictated.
There are so many guards in the portal, this can’t possibly be a priority. Maybe an opportunistic pickup here or there, but without a solid 4 and 5, we’re toast.
