The coach at Nebraska isn't the fix for football... Right now Nebraska is at a systematic disadvantage. They have a weak donor base. Filling a stadium with people in the seats that don't write checks isn't enough... If Nebraska Football could operate like a pro team with its own budget the results would be better.

Yes, we likely have a systemic disadvantage in many ways (not only donor base, but geographic). On the other hand, the coach IS a reason for a large part of our misery. We have outspent and out-recruited many peers who continue to whip us.

A lot of fans (and Rhule) point to the Ohio States and Michigans of the Conference and explain why we can't keep up in the NIL world. Nah, I look at the Minnesota, Iowa and Purdue's who continue to whip us with less. Less donor base, less in facilities, less fan support, less history. And this misery, is due to coaching and lack of development.

University of Nebraska's Role: The university receives all ticket sales revenue from basketball games and pays a base rent of $750,000, which is often offset by credits from concession revenue (kept by the arena), ticket surcharges ($1/ticket), and turn-back taxes, sometimes resulting in a net credit rather than a payment.
Concession revenue is huge.

why do you want to keep a loser who is sending minimal guys to the league while also never beating anyone?
You know full well we’re pot committed with Rhule. It’s why the majority of posters on here weren’t happy with the extension. That was foolish.

Apples to oranges comparison. MBB at NU has been a dumpster fire for majority of its existence. Plus, by your same logic Hoiberg would be the best coach NU has had, because he took MBB further than any coach before him.

In regard to Rhule, what in gods name are you talking about? He’s 19-19 and 1-1 in bowls. He has an identical record to Mike Riley, he and Rhule are the definition of mediocrity. It would be one thing if Rhule was paid a similar salary to Riley, but he has the most exorbitant contract of any coach in NU history, and not to mention endless recourses.

Rhule reminds me of a vacuum cleaner. He sucks, blows, and gets laid in the closet.
It is true that Hoiberg has the distinction of being both the worst coach in Nebraska basketball history and also after this season he is the most successful single season coach.

LOL Nebraska fans just don't get... Football can't win without endless support. Nebraska fans got a free ride during the glory days and now the people of Nebraska won't open their wallets to support the football team. The money has to come first, the competition in the Big10 is too good. There won't be a magical season without a massive investment. I think fans need to face the facts. Football isn't basketball. Enrollment at UNL is down, the University takes more from the athletic budget every year to fill the University budget deficit. Fans and mega donors have to open the checkbooks or Nebraska will not win in Football. Outside of the Peed family Nebraska doesn't have a roster of mega donors which means the average Joe Nebraska fan needs to step up.
The massive investment has been happening for 15 years. We’ve invested huge into football for a long time. The investment hasn’t paid off. We smile at our facilities, practice field, training table, nutrition, weight room, yet still look like this after games.

The who you going to get fans are so annoying, it's not the fan base's job to hire coaches, you should expect a competent administration to find competent coaches. You shouldn't settle for mediocrity just because King Kong doesn't have 10 coaches on speed dial ready to take over. Address your who you going to hire questions to Jeffrey Gold and Dannen Yogurt.
Well it seems our administration is pretty much killing it in every other sport and feel confident in Rhule. A certain portion of the fan base think they are smarter than this administration and put on their kiddie britches if called out.

Seriously. That’s your reason. He’s been coaching for 23 years and three seasons he was an offensive line coach at Iowa. Why isn’t any other power 4 program jumping all over this guy?
How many P4 schools were jumping all over Cignetti prior to his arrival at Indiana? While I don’t predict Polasek is the next Cignetti, I do believe someone like him would understand how to win in the BIG. We’ve had 4 coaches now since our arrival to the BIG, and not a single one of them has understood how to win in this conference. Develop the lines, run the football, manage the clock, prioritize special teams. None of the prior clowns or the current one have understood this.

Cignetti had a much better résumé compared to Polasek, not disagreeing with all of it but what we need to win in this conference it all starts upfront and yes special teams been the main reason why we have reached the 9 win seasons.

The entire Big 10 thinks they are smarter than our administration. They all wished we kept Frost and are hoping we keep Rhule. But please - tell us how many W's Rhule will get this season in his FOURTH year at the helm. His players, his staff, his system. How many w's are you predicting - and are you happy with your answer?

Got it. That explains a lot. Care to name the 9? Obviously you don't need to, I just don't see it. I'd love to see it - but after years of November collapses and not beating a team of substance, I don't know how we get there. At least you back up your optimism with a bold prediction. I respect that. We can disagree on it and I don't get offended by it. It makes for a healthy discussion.

I’ll add the why too. I’m the first one to admit Rhule has made some mistakes. I hated his initial hires as he said he wanted to “teach to coach his way”. That’s a learning curve because he was unable to coach his coaches. He has switched gears and appears to want more experienced coaches.
He finally pulled the trigger on his biggest blunder. Offensive line coach. Rhule is a marketing guy. That is the future of college football when recruiting. I believe when Rhule gets the offensive line straightened out this team can explode. Especially considering we had the youngest roster in the BIG last year. When they do explode Rhule has the charisma to recruit.

I. Think some of his mistakes were a matter of timing and who he could get to take jobs. Let’s be honest. This has been a graveyard for coaches for a while.

Yes that is correct, if you want new seats a donation is required. Donations have been required for new seats in football since ~2005ish (I may be off a year or two)

The problem is that too many legacy ticket holders don't have a donation tied to their seats. But that will be solved soon.

I donate enough annually that I hear what the Nebraska donor base gives compared to other schools...
The problem is two fold... One The Husker Athletic department needs to keep more of what it makes and 2 They need more high profile donors... The Peed family is essentially carrying the Athletic department on its back. Without them things would be really bad.

Complaints should be made to the Board of Regents... Thats really who is to blame for the downfall of Nebraska Football. They are stuck in the past and need to accept that the system changed and its time to evolve or become extinct.
Pretty sure that between 25 to 40 percent of current season ticket holders are grandfathered at 0 donation. There's more on top of that that are grandfathered at a lower rate than current because they are locked in at the level it was when they purchased them years ago

The problem is the athletic department keeps hiring mediocre or bad coaches. Nothing more than that. People are burnt out.
