Afters 2 yrs of knocking on people’s door, and most of the time being refused, most will havea tendency to use big words in order to impress and close the deal. The problem is how do you relate to another human without the hype and the bs you are trying to sell.

and what do you do after the sell is closed and you actually have to do the work every day. Since you don’t know what you are doing you resort back to what you know best to do : bs and will regurgitate some more big words , sprinkle with some meaningless stats, because in your state of mind you still need to close a deal….

sounds familair?

when people read you and know you are full of bs, they will start closing their door in your face …..assistant coaches, players, fan base, media….

because you were trained to follow the mission you will continue to do the same mistakes , and you will drag the program into dirt.

you will consider the 2 yrs a progress and personal financial success because your motivation is different than what you told 20,000 BBN in RA.

we should not expect MP to ever resign. he will always try to blame others and sell you some more bs.

Family is toxic at least the delusional uncle
I think he may be, but it is concerning that the players are saying the things the apparent Pope haters on here are as well. He’s not a fit. He can’t get through to them, they aren’t improving or prepared. Worrisome, but I agree it’s a top down leadership issue.

I have already made my comments about JJ and how members of his family aren't doing him any favors, but this whole thing is another example that illustrates just how big of a disaster this Pope experiment has been. Mitch should have seen this coming had he actually done any actual research on the guy he was hiring.

Hell, while we are assigning blame, there's plenty to go around. If these players want to be pros, they have to start acting like it. Work hard, do their jobs, and show up every game. As bad as Pope was, he's not the one out there on the floor acting like every game is an OTE scrimmage.

JJ does need some mentorship, and he needs some tough love. He's got a lot of potential if he can find a spot where he is pushed to find the best version of himself. I wish him luck on his journey, but the commentary isn't helping. Move on, find a new spot, stay away from social media, and go to work.

But his uncle actually knows what's going on behind closed doors. He knows why Lowe finds it hilarious that the players are leaving.

Is Lowe delusional as well?

This is what surprised me. Lowe showing no respect for Pope is NOT an expected nor a good look. NONE of the transfer portal entrants showing any respect for UK, UK fans, or the coach is BAD. No good way to look at it.

Why did Lowe say he wanted to return at the end of the year, I think he was asked to leave and now he's pissed about it if he didn't like Pope why would he want to return next year

Exactly what I was thinking, but I'd think you have to really bungle the interaction to get this kind of about face from Lowe.

He's right, The source of the problem is Pope. But Jasper Johnson wouldnt have been a stud anywhere this year, his bad defense would have him benched with a good defensive coach and his quick ill advised shots and not good shooting would have been benched by any good offensive coaches.

Please just move on to upike or wherever he will be able to actually play. Kid isn’t good. He’s too small. Should have never been recruited. We won’t even remember his name in a month.

Wait so his hypothesis is Lowe didn’t like the way Kentucky fans were bitching that he never played so he left to find another school where they’d be happier about him never playing?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight…

The not connecting with Pope thing I can buy.

I mean... that would be a really thought out and reasonable post - if Jasper was actually good. Honestly, I think what he is saying makes a lot of sense: Pope does not relate to these kids.

I've seen tons of posts speculating that. I've posted speculating that. And I will say again, I think the Mormonism is a turn off to these kids. That's why he specifically states Chandler may related to him.

I have thought JJ's Unc has been one of those over bearing familial types that actually hurts the player they think they are helping. But this post makes him seem a little more down to Earth.

Again, I do not fully agree with him because I have been a huge JJ hater. However, I do agree with him regarding Mark Pope not connecting and the capitalistic aspect of the current NIL system.

I also agree with the jealousy he mentions. Because I, for one, will, and have, admitted that one source of hate is being jealous of these 18 year old kids making millions for playing a game while I have to go to work everyday doing something I don't particularly enjoy. This feeling was a big source of my hate towards the JQ situation - he made millions, and could have played, but didn't, and it hurt the team. Plus JJ getting paid millions just to run down the court and immediately jack up a three - also hurting the team.

I do think jealousy is a partial source of the hate but a lot of people are unwilling to look inward to admit it.

Family wants kid to be coached and not hyped…kid went to OTE….

Just exit in peace for goodness sake. Kid stunk, move on.
Best point made../
1. Pope has fans seriously upset and frimly on hot seat…snd Mitch ain’t looked upon much better
2. But Jasper has warts even for a freshman
3. Jasper went to the crap OTE which didn’t help him an knch
4. Jasper couldn’t even dribble vs multiple teams down the stretch….that ain’t all Pope fault
5. Jasper in the end took NIL and these kids can’t have their cake and eat it anymore…..fair or not taking money like rhis opens up way more criticism

“Mark doesn't connect with these young men— maybe Collin, but that's about it.”

Let’s hope this is a fake account because that is an awful statement. Ortega came back. Garrison came back. Noah came back. Rumors are Mal turned down money to come back. If Jasper had looked good on the court and was leaving, the reasons might cause concern. But, right after Jasper did something impressive on the court, he would have fans yelling at their TVs because everyone saw he was outmatched physically. How does a family of football players let their college bound basketball star go to college looking like a noodle?

Family can be stupid about these things. Let’s hope this is a fake account so the family does not look stupid in this process.

Every fan in BBN wanted Jasper to blossom. It was clear that Jasper played like he always had the green light when he hit the floor. It was also clear that he was not ready. Part of that was circumstance, not being able to play PG at the Div 1 level, and part was physical preparation.

I agree. And Pope should start by prioritize going someplace to coach where he would fit in.
LOL

NC UK alum does not “fit in.” Funny stuff. I guess Rick Pitino did not know what he was doing when he made Pope team captain of a national championship team. You fit in, but not Pope. Gotcha!

He's right about Pope HOWEVER Jasper had chances and he blew them time and time again. Pope isn't at fault for Jasper pissing down his leg and literally falling down under pressure against Iowa State, or picking the ball up right past half court and getting immediately trapped like he did in the A&M game. Absolutely we didn't come ready to play A TON, but Jasper doesn't know how to get himself hyped up? These guys have played this game their whole life. They've never played for a coach they don't like or didn't see eye to eye with? It happens all the time. Just go out and ball.

That has nothing to do with fitting in. Players do not want to play for him. The home grown kids do not even want to play for Kentucky anymore. Even they are going to Kansas.
You can hang on as long as you want. However, this ship has sunk.

Pope did not deserve another year. In any other big money business, when you see poor performers, with no potential, you move forward. The same thing is happening with the storied UT women’s program. Their coach has almost mirrored Pope and I watch videos left and right about wanting her gone. The next year is just a cash grab for Pope, zero chance he puts together a team that can win the SEC and if he does assemble it, he won’t motivate or coach it. UK is basically at least 4 more years away from being a serious contender. Dusty May, 2nd year coach, similar resources, wins a championship and UK chose Mark Pope, a guy that most of us wouldn’t even be able to hold a conversation with.

Being a leader on a National Championship team has nothing to do with fitting in? Was that team just made up of the oddballs willing to be led by Pope? Is Mal Moreno coming back? Is he homegrown? Your feelings are not facts. Jasper Johnson is leaving. Everyone saw him struggle this year. It was not fun for him. If he had Reed Shepparded the season and left, maybe your position would have merit. But when someone runs from failure, it’s hard to blame others.

Otega Oweh made huge jumps at UK under this staff. Maybe JJ should ask Oweh his secret because that is probably how he thrives anywhere.

What is delusional about what he is saying?
The implication that JJ's complete inability to play meaningful minutes at the college level this past season is somehow Pope's fault. JJ was unplayable. That doesn't change just because JJ gets more minutes or if we have a different coach. He had serious flaws that carried over from high school and clearly didn't take to the coaching that told him that what he was doing was stupid.

Pope being a captain on that team had nothing to do with his basketball talent. He was one of the worst players on the team. He was the slowest, most none athletic guy on the team. He was the captain because he was a yes man to Pitino.
