I thought we were supposed to be rewarding people for trying to score points. Perhaps, they will call it the PSU rule since it seems like another way to close the gap with the competition and make sure PSU does not continue to break records. And perhaps, this was the wrestling gods correcting an injustice since 3rd was probably better than 1st in this instance. Robideau only had to win one bonus point bout to outscore PJ, but he did not.

Sure looks like a solution in search of a problem to me.

One interesting point I picked up on from the article is that Levi scored the most team points of any wrestler - 26.5. Maybe that was mentioned in another post but it’s the first time I was aware of it.

I pay Flow but don’t like or respect them. They are a necessary evil to follow my favorite team.
I now live in South Carolina so my ability to watch matches in Rec Hall is limited due to the 615 mile drive it requires each way to attend. I am not unbiased in my opinions. I don’t have any desire to hear anyone that is not Penn State Fan.

What a cherry picking article. Only three glaring examples over 80 placements to support the argument. 8th at 125. 3rd at 157. 4th at 197. Several others where the diff was 1 point or less, but that could be considered noise. Seems like much ado about nothing at all. Seems like the scoring system actually works.

if anything, reduce MFF in consis to a decision.

More to come, but....

In the current scoring system (2001 - 2026) there have been 309 instances of a top 7 wrestler getting outscored by a lower finishing wrestler in the 2-8 slots (17.7% of 1,750 possible).

If you cut consolation bonus in half it would have eliminated 111 of those instances, but also created 20 new instances, for a new net total of 218 (12.5%).

Obviously, cutting consolation bonus in half does not eliminate the situation - hell it doesn't even cut it in half.

I am not saying consolation bonus should not be cut in half, but if you are looking to eliminate a lower finishing wrestler from ever outscoring a higher finishing wrestler, the only way to do that is to eliminate bonus points altogether, or significantly increase the spread in placement points to absurd levels.
