I say that based on some of the names that show up as new posters, look like the AI names that are picked for me when I play solitaire.
or from NJNo, they’re N.I.
Incredible career, yet the first thing I think of is "Practice".
Well the second the I part of the acronym rules me out...I say that based on some of the names that show up as new posters, look like the AI names that are picked for me when I play solitaire.

One of my all-time favorite rants.Incredible career, yet the first thing I think of is "Practice".
We don't need artificial intelligence....we have all natural stupidity
When people refer to AI, he will always be what I initially think of.
Better an influx of A I posters than A holes, I suppose.
I've seen no sign of intelligence- natural or artificial- from the latest batch. assholerly, plenty.Better an influx of A I posters than A holes, I suppose.

Or not. Had an article in a writers group newsletter recently, where the guy used AI to write an article. It did give some good info and good phrasing. However, it also had two quotes and a reference given that DID NOT EXIST. At all. That's a problem for me.I will say this about AI... Hopefully I'll be gone before Hal takes over, but in the meantime it's rather helpful.
If I'm looking for fixes for all the stuff I own that needs fixing, it's great. You ask it a question and it usually gets you an answer. At the very least it points you in the right direction. Better than a plain google search that provides dozens of video links and forums (many sponsored) you would have to sift through.
If you use AI for finding basic information, it works. Beyond that, experiences similar to yours seem to be the norm.Or not. If your post read that a certain poster is an A. H. You would have nailed it… Chumboshithead takes the win!! A true POS!I say that based on some of the names that show up as new posters, look like the AI names that are picked for me when I play solitaire.
When I grew up AI meant artificial insemination. lolI say that based on some of the names that show up as new posters, look like the AI names that are picked for me when I play solitaire.
AI =/= Higher Form of Intelligence.Trust me guys. If you read some of my posts, I don’t think I’ll ever be confused with a higher for of intelligence. I’m good!
When I was teaching electronics tech. for a few years, I always believed in students using slide rules until they were proficient in those before using a calculator. You really don't know if an answer is right or wrong when using a calculator unless you've done the "grunt'" work to truly understand and expect an answer that is reasonable! If you use AI for finding basic information, it works. Beyond that, experiences similar to yours seem to be the norm.
The way I understand it, AI can’t differentiate between good information and bad. I’m not sure how AI manages to come up with totally bogus quotes and references.
I’m glad I’m retired. I loved my job and I was damn good at it but I’m told it’s now extremely challenging to teach mathematics in the way it needs to be taught, getting students to do the necessary grunt work. A big part of becoming skilled in mathematics is developing the ability to recognize that you’ve made a mistake. I’d tell my students, “The biggest difference between you and me is that I know when I’m wrong.” With AI and whatnot, that skill seems to be becoming rare, almost extinct.
This is true. When I was teaching electronics tech. for a few years, I always believed in students using slide rules until they were proficient in those before using a calculator. You really don't know if an answer is right or wrong when using a calculator unless you've done the "grunt'" work to truly understand and expect an answer that is reasonable!
I wish you were around back then to tell this to my students. They just considered me an "old fogie" at the grand old age of 25-28.This is true.
No, just stupid and naive.I say that based on some of the names that show up as new posters, look like the AI names that are picked for me when I play solitaire.
Oh he sucks! I hadn’t been on here for a while and then all I see is his horse manure. I was like who is this knuckle dragger? If your post read that a certain poster is an A. H. You would have nailed it… Chumboshithead takes the win!! A true POS!
That was the real benefit of slide rules over calculators. With slide rules you had to have a good estimate of what your answer was going to be.I wish you were around back then to tell this to my students. They just considered me an "old fogie" at the grand old age of 25-28.

Unfortunately it also makes fraudsters and scammers harder to detect.I will say this about AI... Hopefully I'll be gone before Hal takes over, but in the meantime it's rather helpful.
