What exactly has she accomplished to deserve the “she’s that good” title?
I was with her the night before she parted ways with McCaffery. She didn't tell me the plan but she laid out a comprehensive understanding (er...indictment) of the state of the bb program and plan for moving forward. It included a comprehensive look at facilities, NIL, fundraising, the coach, etc... She understood that Coach Ferentz, for all his success, accomplishment and reasons for deference, had a singular and massive blind spot. And she acted decisively and authoritatively. She was the HWC event this past September (IU football game). She understands the role of Iowa in the wrestling universe and culture. She values it. She is willing to invest in it and to advocate for it. Think revenue sharing. I guess I am saying I have been very impressed. Enough to trust her judgment when I know she knows more details than me.

I hope she values wrestling. The University has won 26 NCAA national titles across all sports. 24 in men’s wrestling. The other 2: men’s gymnastics 1969 and women’s field hockey in 1986. Her best chances of getting NCAA titles come from women’s wrestling first and men’s wrestling second.

But with the way things are heading, it isn’t the slam dunk it once was to invest in a non-revenue sport, let alone keep it around. Especially one that runs so far in the red. An AD who values it isn’t as much of a slam dunk as it once was.

Broke isu got 1 million, and Iowa zero rev share this year according to Bob. It's fair to question how much wrestling means to her until she shows them the money in a big way.

No way Isu should be giving anywhere near the rev share Iowa gets. And no way any coaches like David Taylor are succeeding Brands if they aren't given an open check book.

it is my understanding (i could be wrong)

that iowa wrestling not getting rev share was a temporary thing. with everything being new, they are figuring it out and will get rev share in the very near future.

that's what i heard anyway.

I think that is exactly what is happening, but KF, BM, and JJ all want a bigger piece of the pie, and JJ is being VERY loud about her share. This is a tough salary cap for Beth to navigate while trying to keep the coaches happy and still employed by Iowa.

Yes you are 100% correct. All the deals were already in place pre house settlement deadline. Wrestling gets rev share this coming season

She does, but LOTS of pressure from other coaches.

21 million, how would you allocate if you were her--serious question.

Sure he was. You can’t put any trust in the age of Cuban athletes. Realistically, a year or two older than their listed age.
Certainly gamesmanship from the Islands where kids are routinely listed as several years younger than they are.

When I coached distance in CO there were always a handful of Africans we'd refer to as the "Firsters". They'd enter the country with no docs. Immigration would ask em what year they were born, and give them a Jan 1 birthday. Most knew when they were born and fessed up later. Usually they were 1-4 years older than what their new ID's shown. Loved getting under the skins of their coaches and beating them.

Good by me, but you are not reducing football 3/4 million realistically, and Jan would be pissed, she already is. One way Beth could help is by giving more scholarships instead of 9.9 up it to 15. That would really help the depth also

Interesting idea and a way to avoid the cap. Still need to have the $$$ but from what she’s done so far it might not be an issue.

Women’s wrestling should be $0. And right now it’s tough for even me to rationalize women’s hoops getting 2x men’s wrestling.

If true, Im glad she wasn't here when Desanto came because that likely wouldn't have happened under her. Both the university and Desanto ended up benefitting from the risk. Im losing respect in her, she cant work out any stipulations with the athlete and coaches apparently.
Comparing these 2 situations is so dumb, I dont even know where to begin

Only giving $10 million to football? That would be a disaster for trying to put a good team on the field. Most schools are giving at least 75% of that $20.5 million pie to their football programs.

so a MBB roster of 15 gets 8 million with recent success; and a Football roster of 100+ gets 10 million with continued success?
I would be fine with as low as $13 mil and $5 mil. My reasoning is that football is going to win games on with defense and OL which aren’t going to cost as much. QBs and WRs are costing teams the big bucks. Plus football can get more NIL approved in clearing house probably.

B ball had a guy coming off the bench making 1 million. That could buy you several top wrestlers. The momentum women’s basketball had after Clark is being pissed away fast. She had one of the top recruits in the country as a freshman this year, and has already lost her. Even before this, fans on the woman’s board have been calling for the coach to be terminated. The money would be better spent on wrestling.

You still have not detailed what she has actually accomplished. She may be a highly intelligent person with plans. She got Ferentz to part ways with his son and fired McCafferry. Not exactly anything the vast majority of fans also thought was necessary. She hired a good basketball coach who desperately wanted to coach the Hawkeyes. A successful AD builds programs and that has not yet been accomplished. We will see.

This is some sexist ********. Regardless of if you think AJ should attend the university this post makes you look terrible. You should delete it.

If he took the time to delete every post that makes him look terrible, he'd be pretty busy for a while and would end up with pretty much zero total posts.

Football is getting at least 15 to 16 million at Iowa. It has to. I’m not sure exactly what the rationale for giving mens wrestling a lot of money is?!? We used to be a top program but we aren’t anymore??

BAILEY
ZEPETA
BLOCK
BLAZING fire
ARNOLD
F1
AJ of F2
B1G BEN

Funny how yo panties are getting tight huh?????

The ABOVE ^^^^^ line up will go with ANY team!!! Obviously this is asking a lot and ASSuMeing ALL are Healthy!!! NOT 1 guy in that line up who is NOT a TITLE threat!!!
Assuming the PSU lineup is:

125 Lilledahl
133 Ono
141 Marcus Blaze
149 SVN
157 Kasak
165 Mesenbrink
174 Henckel or Duke
184 Rocco
197 Barr
HWT Cole Mirasola

You have 1 weight (HWT) where Iowa would be favored, even with your fantasy wishcasting lineup where half of the people aren't even on the roster.

^^^^ THAT is the fact!!! NOW you are "up against the wall" and have been and you need to make some serious moves PERIOD!!! SAYING it for YEARS NOW!!!!! IOWA doesn't start "doing things different" Playing the game the F*** st and now OakTree st way!!!! They WILL BECOME a 2nd tier program<<<<< BOTTOMLINE and the clock is TICKING faster EVERY day!!!!
This is correct, but the fact that you think bringing in AJ is the way to bridge the gap because that's what PSU and/or Ok St would do just tells me you're really not capable of understanding the problem or the reason there is a gap in the first place.

It isn't happening anyway but it would be a very competitive dual. Team scores in wrestling don't tell the story of a dual sometimes. The dual this year was very lop sided after PSU won several close matches.

These numbers are wildly FALSE.

Four sports get Rev Share. I don't have the exact number for the golden goose, but believe it to be 15 million. Do the math on BB

Wrestling is a six digit number. That's what 25 titles gets you.

There are a number of buckets to work with. Rev Share is precious as it's "non-scrutinized"

Donors have to pay for all the wrestling buckets

If the first thing that Desanto did when he came to Iowa was to attack a teammate in the Soldier Salute finals then do a split to give the finger to the parents' section of the crowd, he'd have been immediately dismissed and not allowed back, too. Beth did give AJ a chance and he immediately blew it. It's smart not to let him back in the door.

Desanto took full advantage of the second chance he was given. AJ immediately blew it. There's a huge difference between the two.

I would love to know your thoughts on what can be done that will help save wrestling as a whole. You obviously put your money where your mouth is which is great for our sport, but is there a path through this for these smaller schools and schools with athletic departments that care much for wrestling? Are we doomed or is hope alive?

Every time I hear ADS speak he seems like a young man experiencing growth as a person. I haven't seen as much of that from AJ. Iowa was the perfect place for ADS to improve his life. It is one of the better success stories in our sport, and putting him in Iowa City gave everyone a lot of opportunity to watch him. He keeps getting better at freestyle too which probably surprises nobody. The only thing AJ and ADS have in common is they are both great wrestlers.
