Flo stirring the pot unnecesarily again. Here's the issue: Duke scored 20.5 pts vs Rope-a-dope scoring 20.0 pts. Guess who scored zero bonus in the tourney?![]()

Team scoring at the NCAA Championships might need an overhaul, and there's a simple solution.www.flowrestling.org
I could get onboard with reducing bonus point values in consolations, cutting them in half just as they do advancement points, especially given the greater likelihood of Ferrari-ing out. Would take some getting used to seeing .25 and .75 points in the team scores.Championship tournament wrestling follows the same scoring that governs the dual meet. Scoring is encouraged by the very nature of the sport...high scoring decisive wins are valued more than narrow decisions. This basic premise, if the FLO writer has his way, would be amended to reduce the scoring rate and value for any consolation win a wrestler gains. After all, becoming the champion isn't enough...scoring should be reduced for others as an added benefit to the champ!
We live in a world that seeks to find fault as though there's a reward for it. The writer in question found a "difference" to sway team scoring that serves no purpose. Glad he isn't in charge of anything because he believes in ruling by exception. I believe in consistency of rules.
I will do the math next week, but it is generally a bad idea to change rules based on outliers.Flo stirring the pot unnecesarily again. Here's the issue: Duke scored 20.5 pts vs Rope-a-dope scoring 20.0 pts. Guess who scored zero bonus in the tourney?
If NCAA devalues bonus, we'll get less scoring, duh. Also we'll lose fans, but at least there's a solution to a non-problem.
"3rd is better than 1st" is like the Tush Push being too dangerous when the Eagles win the Super Bowl. The next year when the Eagles crash and burn in the playoffs, not even brought up for a vote. Losers try to change the rules in their favor when they can't compete.
I’d say it would be fair enough to eliminate the bonus points for a MFF, but I’d rather they not reduce the bonus for a contested bout.I could get onboard with reducing bonus point values in consolations, cutting them in half just as they do advancement points, especially given the greater likelihood of Ferrari-ing out. Maybe or maybe not. The first time a wrestler is losing by more than 15 points, or for that matter 8 points and time is running out, he then decides he is too hurt to continue and he/she MFF out. I know that would not be sportsman like, but they will for sure try this.I’d say it would be fair enough to eliminate the bonus points for a MFF, but I’d rather they not reduce the bonus for a contested bout.
Implications for team race, and that’s all these points are about anyway. If your guy is going to get steamrolled by a close competitor in the team race do you MFF rather than give up 1.5 - 2.0 bonus?I’d say it would be fair enough to eliminate the bonus points for a MFF, but I’d rather they not reduce the bonus for a contested bout.
That’s injury default, not MFF.Maybe or maybe not. How many points would Duke have had if he had been able to continue the sequence and pin Rubberduck in the semis, then decision Taylor in the final?A complete non issue in search of a non solution.
PS - Duke earned every extra penny and more and Robaduke did not. I think the system worked perfectly as intended.
PSS - If it means when you go back and recalculate the team totals when PSU had 4 champs to Iowa's 1, and we rightly win? Maybe ;-)

Aside from gamesmanship, I don’t think it’s fair to penalize the wrestler who showed up either. Just seems logically, if an advancement point on the backside is worth half, the bonus points should be too.I’d say it would be fair enough to eliminate the bonus points for a MFF, but I’d rather they not reduce the bonus for a contested bout.
I read that the Ferrari family was a large percentage of the MMF’s!How many teams at nattys did not have a mmf or i jury default. I don't think we had any mff dis we? Wonder what the numbers are
You spelled MFs wrong.I read that the Ferrari family was a large percentage of the MMF’s!

It is easier to say how many teams did have them.I read that the Ferrari family was a large percentage of the MMF’s!

We didn’t this year… I remember Kerk did one year. How many teams at nattys did not have a mmf or i jury default. I don't think we had any mff dis we? Wonder what the numbers are
Kerk MFF’d to 6th last year after losing to Hendrickson in the semis on one leg and also MFFd the 3rd place match to Jordan Wood in 2022.We didn’t this year… I remember Kerk did one year.
You are correct, but in my defense, I typed it the way the person I was responding to did. D4 led me astray...You spelled MFs wrong.
