Can't blame them, though it still won't survive a legal challenge, the current landscape is absolutely disastrous and will ultimately destroy collegiate sports, IMO. The power networks, HBO, Prime, Apple others, have been pushing the NBA games non-stop, yet viewership is still down, this will slowly come to college if the mercenary aspects continue unabated.

College sports TV ratings are at all time highs. It is not destroying college sports.

I believe it will if things don't change in the coming few years, though the top teams have thrived so far in this new atmosphere, we've failed to adjust, Duke, UCONN, UF and others are carrying on like usual.

An EO doesn't do anything in this regard, as I stated yesterday. EO's are not law just as tweets are not law. And SCOTUS has already given college athletes the freedoms of choice they currently have while telling the NCAA they were the ones breaking the law for several decades. Some reforms and guardrails could make things better I suppose but simply put, POTUS signing an EO as if he's in charge of college athletics won't do anything. And Congress has a history of not really doing much of anything either.

In one post you're doom and gloom about the future while in this one admitting several programs are currently thriving. So...which is it because how can "the current landscape is absolutely disastrous and will ultimately destroy collegiate sports" yet many programs are still finding success be a thing? lol.

BBN is an older, traditional fanbase who enjoys speaking in absolutes. The current product cannot be in shambles (a buzz word from the old paddock board) while several programs have found the keys to success.

Simply put, we're upset because we're not a Duke, a FL, a Michigan, a Houston, a UConn, or an AZ in this new era.

Still don’t believe it’s good for the game, though no denying many programs are doing much better in this new environment than Kentucky ATM.

A lot of the problem with the NBA is the game itself. There were an average of 75 three pointers attempted per game last season. Given the skill these guys have it is probably wise strategically. But it doesn’t make for entertaining basketball to watch IMO.

The other aspect is that college sports have gotten a big boost from conference realignment and legalized gaming. That boost won’t last forever. It’s almost hard to remember now but right before Covid all the talk was about declining attendance in college football.

It' not the rules, it's the enforcement. The NCAA can't set guidelines or make decisions for some reason, and it allows for any local court to pass judgement on their sport. Make the rules and put in place an administrative body that will enforce those rules immediately.
Or, let it completely go to the woke side and eliminate eligibility requirements and let the trannies take over the women's game.

Yep used to love the NBA and now it's nothing but a 3pt shooting contest. We get to see very little of the other skills these guys have

And all of a sudden the right loves the NCAA.
They love what fits their agenda. Repubs were built on capitalism, this is anything but.

Regardless I think we need guardrails but this order is pointless. Without congress approval he just wasted his time.

This should not be a political issue. Congress with both political parties should address the problem and settle it once and for all. The only way it can be settled is through legislation. Not by a judge who is biased against what ever party is in power or favors a particular team.

The NCAA is useless and will continue to fiddle around as long as the networks are paying millions. But sooner or later those millions will dry up. Our do nothing congress, both parties, better wake up or we can kiss collegiate sports good-bye.

The question isn't whether the EO makes good or bad changes to college athletics. It was developed alongside a lot of people closely associated with the game who have good feel for the issues it is facing now, and while reasonable people could disagree it is at least a coherent, comprehensive vision of the college sports landscape, which we obviously lack now.

The question is how should schools balance the EO vs the court rulings, which are not aligned. If UK follows the EO to the letter, and Louisville does not, Louisville has a massive advantage. If the NCAA follows the courts over the EO then in this scenario UofL sees no punishment to its athletics, and if the courts rule the EO invalid then UofL sees no punishment at any level, while having had a massive advantage in the meantime. If that happens, are UK fans going to be praising Mitch and the new AD for following the invalid "rules" and putting us behind, or calling for their jobs?

If this EO spurs congress to finally do something and pass a law then in that sense it will have been a success. If it doesn't then it just made the already-convoluted landscape even more convoluted.

Separately from all the above, your link goes to a local Mississippi news site and gives no direct quotes, provides no sources or links in the article, and is a series of vague descriptions of the EO, the SCORE act, and what people said about them. I'm not saying it's wrong per se but I am taking everything it says with a grain of salt.

I can't stand the person who signed the executive order, but I will say this: He isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes in, and rally people around him to make things happen. The NCAA sure as **** wasn't going to do anything to address this, neither was the NBA. Next up needs to be performance-based pay just as it would for anyone else in any job sector in this nation. I'd go even further and say that you have two transfers MAXIMUM in your five years, regardless of the reasons. Enough of this mercernary ********, bring continuity back to the game. Let the kids hit the NBA draft right out of high school (of course the NBA doesn't want that) and if they stay in the draft or sign an agent, their college career is over.
