any idea when anything may get announced? Transfers, coaches or otherwise?
I just don't understand the love for Metcalf the coach. ISU has accomplished nothing since he has been there until this year. This year's team was bought and not developed.
Here is the Illinois guy’s thoughts again:
He says Michigan is the leader for Knox, Iowa for Garvin, ISU for Norman.
Get GR8 wrestlers in the room!!! Make a plan and figure it out as far as how to build your lineup!!! TnT need to be ALL IN on some of these guys!!!I’m not complaining one bit as it’s still early, but I do hope people have realistic expectations for this portal class.
165 is a big need but there’s only 1 great option right now and there has been scuttlebutt for years that he wasn’t big on Iowa.
133 has some good options but lots of people need a 133, plus the weight class is an absolute bear so throwing a ton of money at it may not make sense from an ROI standpoint.
157 is a fairly weak class portal wise too. There is an argument that as of now none of the options are better than what we currently have (Willie and Corby both agree Zepeda isn’t a 157).
All of this to say, a LOT could change still but most would be wise to temper the expectations.
I feel reasonably confident that Iowa will land one of Crookham/Knox/Fugitt in the portal. 133 is a big hole but thankfully there are some quality wrestlers in the portal at that class already.I’m not complaining one bit as it’s still early, but I do hope people have realistic expectations for this portal class.

That would be a dream scenario for sure. Especially if Eise could make 165 for a couple years. In my opinion that’s a top 2 team. I don’t know how realistic it is but I do love to dream.I feel reasonably confident that Iowa will land one of Crookham/Knox/Fugitt in the portal. 133 is a big hole but thankfully there are some quality wrestlers in the portal at that class already.
165 is an entirely different matter. It's still early and could change pretty drastically, but right now its a big question mark. Garvin is an obvious one, but after that...its a ton of questions. It probably means looking at a guy to drop down (Schubert, Thompson, Eise, Wright) or bump up (Kilic, Henrich).
157 is equally rough. Zepeda is probably a 149 and not a 157. Kilic or Henrich could fit, but I don't think they' are podium guys.
Gun to my head at this exact moment, I would probably be pretty damned happy with something like this:
133-Crookham or Knox
149-Zepeda
157-Block bumps up
165-Wright or Eise
There's still plenty of time for guys to enter the portal...and the dynamic will absolutely shift as they enter...but we are also going to see names popping off of the board over the next 48 hours too.
I think Eise or Wright are probably more realistic than Garvin...although I'm not entirely sure how realistic they actually are. Thompson is one that I would love to have if I thought he could get down to 165 because he's got a lot of potential that's not been realized yet. He could be a podium guy at 165 if he could make the cut...I'm just not sure he can. That would be a dream scenario for sure. Especially if Eise could make 165 for a couple years. @Corby2 Any Iowa rumblings?Have heard he's going up but some are still saying 165. Also have heard Norman doesn't want to go 184 . Norman was gonna take some other visits was the word I got.
Say goodbye to Garvin.@Corby2 Any Iowa rumblings?
Hard to say goodbye to something we never had.Say goodbye to Garvin.
Be hopeful for Zepeda and Crookham.
The portal is open for a few more weeks. No sense to rush for 65 at the moment in hopes others go in.
I am confident Iowa is working overtime right now.
thanks @MALOSSay goodbye to Garvin.

Zepeda must be bigger then I thought he's been telling teams hes a 49 or 57
I know it's obvious, but we should be on him and Crookham.Zepeda must be bigger then I thought he's been telling teams hes a 49 or 57
So you’re saying there’s a chance with him at 157?Zepeda must be bigger then I thought he's been telling teams hes a 49 or 57
I know Downey was walking around 177 when he was cutting to 157. So 165 made sense. I've never met nor do I know what Garvin walks around at. Assumed it was about the same but don't know for a fact.Have heard he's going up but some are still saying 165. Also have heard Norman doesn't want to go 184 . Exactly my pointHard to say goodbye to something we never had.
Dude has to be like 50 years old doesn't he?I wonder if he’d actually end up there with Rylan Seacrist coming in who will also be a career 125er. Was #1 all year at 113 won Ironman. Very talented but obviously small wrestling 113 as a senior.
Sheeeshhhh, who at ISU is running their mouth for all to know that they were recruiting hard at NCAAs. LolThis isn't Iowa specific it's just in general. Knowing before anything is official isn't good for anyone involved the coaches , athletes or fans. Until things are official they're just rumors and the less of those that go around the better it is. Nobody wants other teams knowing who they're going after. Some teams are better at keeping things quiet then others are
That's right in ISUs wheelhouseDude has to be like 50 years old doesn't he?
Done deal if Beth approves. Finally some juice from the portal.
That’s always been the biggest obstacleif Beth approves.
I don't know how committed to the wrestling program she is but there's always a chance his brother wants to wrestle on the same team as him.Done deal if Beth approves.
There's Gobblin calculating wind velocity and bullet drift on some turkey or deer hunt.
I’m kind of shocked Angelo hasn’t said I wanna wrestle with my brother or I’m gone. I guarantee teams would take both those guys. I also couldn’t blame him if it came to that.I don't know how committed to the wrestling program she is but there's always a chance his brother wants to wrestle on the same team as him.
Is DC still coaching Gilroy?Idk if most people realize it but Zepeda and Eise both graduated from Gilroy HS in CA. Wonder if they will be headed to the same place. Their former teammate Moses Mendoza is going to Michigan.
Block is gonna wrestle 2 weights? What an absolute mind **** this is!
AJ has more baggage then the queen of England, but can he keep his act together to make another run at a title at 197?
How crazy would it be to have Gabe at 174, AF at 184, AJ at 197 and Ben full go at heavy. We add a healthy Deluca at 125, one of these portal 133lbers (I would take Fugitt) that have high AA potential, Bailey with his hands healed up at 141, Zepeda at 149, Block at 157 and 165?
We would definitely lock in that third place trophy with that line upWhat an absolute mind **** this is!
