If you like a band and no one else does, chances are pretty good that you’re the one that’s wrong about their talent. Every one of these unheard of bands would kill to be selling records, that’s why they’re doing it unless it’s a side gig.
i see your stupid argument and raise you one black midi, who probably never sniffed your top 40 lists LOOK

They are only "unheard of bands" if you don't move the dial off the classic rock station once in a while. 🤷‍♂️

first 2 bands that come to mind are Grateful Dead and Phish. I don't think the Dead had a top 10 song until the 80's and Touch of Grey. And very few bought Dead records they traded their recordings back and forth from bootleg concerts. :ROFLMAO:

Should I fire up the ham radio instead? Classic rock is classic for a reason.

Nahh you don't have to go that far just look for music stations on any streaming service. Yep its really that easy.
Oh and what was 80's alternative is now often considered "classic".

Many lists have Jon as one of the best front men in the business. Like them or hate them, they deserve to be in the HOF.

He had charisma and guess looks, but how many lists have BJ as one of the top bands, or maybe more importantly, how many bands say that BJ (much less Kiss) heavily influenced them musically?

Jay Leno and Fallon were/are popular late show hosts, but how many comedians look up to them like they do Carson, Letterman, O'Brien (yes, Conan was truly awful in his early years, but became one of the best lats night hosts with no one being able to surpass his remotes).

Btw, Mick, Keith, Ozxy, Liam (Gallagher) are among notable musicians/artists who name a very early Beatles song (which, btw, is not considered bubnlegum) as their favorite.

So I guess we should be putting music teachers into the R&R HOF since many musicians were influenced by their music teachers. “Influence” is also subjective…and I’ll bet you a dollar there are artists out there who were influenced by Bon Jovi.

^ Those are 2 very different types of influences.

For instance, the Beatles were influenced by Buddy Holly (hence, the name of their band) and the Everly Brothers (hence, the harmonies).

That's why the early Beatles sounded like a mix of Holly and the Everlys (both in the Hall).

Well, let us know if there's any band of note that was influenced by BJ musically.

I have no doubt that there were people who thought they could get a band together and hit it big since BJ was able to do it...

Fixed, for myself.

Skid Row, Firehouse, Slaughter, Dokken, Lynch Mob, Hinder, and 3 Doors Down have all cited Bon Jovi as an influence as well as country singers Kip Moore, Brantley Gilbert, and A Thousand Horses. I’m quite sure there are more. Every popular band has influenced other bands which is another reason that “influence” should not be a criteria to get in the HOF.

Skid Row and Slaughter don't sound much like BJ other than being in the broader category of hard rock/metal.

SR really couldn't have been influenced by BJ since they were contemporaries.

In fact, one of the 2 founding members of SR, Sabo, was a childhood friend of Jon and actually toured with the proto-form of BJ as they promoted their first single.

Plus, SR had a more punk and lyrical rock mixed with metal sound, and their 2nd album was metal and not "hair/glam metal."

Slaughters frontman, Mark, was also a contemporary of Jon, and in interviews had stated that bands like Black Sabbath, Van Halen and the Beatles were influences

Dokken (under a different name) was formed in 1976; BJ was formed in 1983.

Firehouse was also a contemporary and Leverty stated that back when he was doing covers, he did classic rock, along with hard rock and melodic rock with some metal thrown in.

Lot's of the Scorpions, Led Zeppelin , Van Halen, along with Ozzy, Rhoads, Judas Priest, and going back to Blue Oyster Cult; no mention of BJ.

TKR has a lot of the same discussion on their thread about the HoF.

Not surprisingly, Iron Maiden and Joy Division/New Order get the most support, but that's not the case in a fan poll...

Rory Gallagher isn't in the "hall". None of the people being voted on now could carry his guitar case. Neither could many of those already in.

The whole thing is a bad joke.

I don’t know these bands personally to ask them, I just looked up bands that said they were influenced by Bon Jovi…if you think they are lying, take it up with them. You can’t seriously think there aren’t bands out there that were influenced by Bon Jovi. Every popular band ever has influenced other bands.

Also, I saw Chris Stapleton in concert at Rupp Arena…he said he went to his first concert ever at Rupp and he saw Bon Jovi…he said it made him want to be a performer….so I guess he was lying too.
