What did Stearns do to you?
It isn't what he did- I am just waiting to see him make successful big league moves. I do like that he has our minor leagues and scouting at an "A" level- but he has had a really poor MLB trade and FA grade as of yet.

And even if Bichette ends up an All Star- paying him $42 mil with opt outs was sort of crazy. So- let's see this years moves pan out and see him do something to improve the team at the deadline.

When the deadline came last year- everyone saw what was really starting to fail the team and he did nothing to fix it and it is what lost the season.

And- if he was making boy genious moves that impressed and amazed everyone- he gets away with his smug grins and outright lies to the fans.

But he shouldn't be given those mulligans until he proves something to us.

Yesterday's game was much more promising. cut way back on the K's and had some good AB's again. Clay Holmes looks like he is going to be a really good number 3 starter.

Good to see Williams have a really solid save

Tonight will be an interesting first regular-season look at Senga.
Big knight in the division

Mets …Senga pre injury LY and Mets rotation gets really deep

Phillies…. Painter (debut?)… if he isn’t quite ready yet their rotation desperately needs wheeler asap. Sanchez is a stud the rest can go 6 and give up 2 runs or 2 innings and 6 runs

It's still early, though, yet it's fun to have games just about every night/day.

How does this year's team stack up against last year's squad?
I know the team last year had the highest OPS, or close to it.
Can the Mets cut Lovelady already?

Ode to Lovelady

Mets bullpen is shorthanded
Dick Lovelady's home runs have not yet landed
What an unfortunate name
For a guy losing the game
Please Mets, cut Dick.

Lovelady again gives up a homer. Why is he here? Mendoza needs to never pitch him again or stearns needs to release him
I can answer that question. Lovelady is here for two reasons:

1) He throws a baseball with his left hand.

2) He was perceived to do that better than Bryan Hudson, who was DFA'd.

Your statement "Mendoza needs to never pitch him again" is unrealistic. If he is on the roster, Mendoza must and will use him. Mets only have a seven man bullpen (I'm not counting Manaea), and you gotta use them all.

Perhaps Stearns will DFA him. Then what? Whom do you want to recycle? Alex Carrillo? Austin Warren? Brandon Waddell? You tell me. Dylan Ross is injured and Ryan Lambert probably isn't ready.

Then it would seem Stearns hasn’t done his job very well if we’re 5 games into the season with a poorly constructed bullpen.

For some reason, p*ss poor lefties are overvalued. How else do you explain guys like Lovelady having a job? Not every lefty is good.
I agree with you there. But keep in mind, Lovelady is the last guy in the pen. You look at most team's last guy in the pen, and they're not much better than Lovelady if at all. If they were, they wouldn't be the last guy in the pen.

I think Gary Cohen said it well. This early in the season, Mendoza is protecting the relievers he cares about. He is willing to overuse the one guy whom he views as expendable.

Can't disagree there. Stearns miscalculated with Bryan Hudson. Stearns thought he would return to his 2024 form, but I guess didn't like what he saw of him in spring training.

poorly constructed bullpen and poorly constructed infield. We have a 1B that hasnt been hitting and cant play 1B at all. We have a 2B that can field but can no longer hit. We have a 3B that can hit but should be the 2B where he is about average but at 3B looks worse that Vientos does on his worst days. And we do have a very good to great SS. We have only 50% of our IF playing in the right position and one of those guys cant hit.

And, to think, April just started today.

You two could get a room . . .

If you all don’t like discussing the team- good or bad- that is on you. And guess what- March/April games are just as important as the last game of the season.
Enjoying a meaningful discussion of the team is one thing. A litany of pre-baked, jilted-lover opinions after the runner takes his third step in a marathon is neither meaningful nor a discussion. But take a look in the mirror. You decided to drool all of this stuff on a message board, and you've done so multiple times already. So you get reactions.

The die-easy fans have passed away already.

I'm still smarting over how they mishandled Vogelbach, but I am clinging on for dear life.
I agree it is too soon to tell, 5 games into the season. The Philthies are 2-3, so the Mets have that going for them.

I found the after game X posts celebrating Senga's 9 strikeouts yesterday somewhat Rutgerseque--great- 9 strikeouts, but he still got the L. Not saying Senga sucked, but celebrating 9 strikeouts in a loss in a Pyrrhic victory defined. Like celebrating how Rutgers gained more yards than their opponent and still lost.

One issue that Senga seems to have is command. It's not terrible. But he walks a few too many and falls behind in counts a bit too often. His stuff is terrific. If he can dial in the command a bit, he can be a top of the rotation pitcher.

what can be celebrated is that the starters have been solid, even if not great. It looks like we may be getting more than 4 innings out of them this year.

I've yet to see a game yet as I've been working for the first 2 games of the Pirates series and vacationing in St Lucia since Sunday. Very limited highlights online. But I have been tracking the results from afar. Precious little hitting going on. Clutch situations or otherwise. If they lose this game today it surely will be well-deserved.
