I am a miserable Mississippi State fan, except during baseball season. We are moving to Pennsylvania in a few weeks and I have always liked Penn State, but I am hoping to become a fan of Penn State and take my kids to a game or two. Any advice for a newbie?

Lykens. It's north of Harrisburg.
Whoa, that’s a bit “out there.” My parents grew up in Millersburg, just down the valley. Lots of good outdoors sporting opportunities up that way if you’re into those things. Fairly friendly PSU country, although you’ll get a few hater pockets around Harrisburg and toward Scranton (ND non-alums).

You aren’t super close to the school, but you sort of have a few options for getting there — all around two hours.

Buy some gear, and learn to ***** if we don’t annihilate every opponent and you’ll fit right in.

Honestly, we’re not a really sophisticated fan base, so if that’s to your liking you’ll have lots of good company.

Well, you're certainly in the thick of it.

Good news for you....we like cowbells too! You'll have to learn to chant with ours though. As for advice, don't bring up the name Franklin. However, you can bring up the name Paterno as often as you like.

Oh yeah, you don't happen to have any boys around the age of 17-18 that are around 6' to 6'5" who can run a sub 4.5 forty with really good hands? They're in short supply in these parts over the last decade or so.
My oldest is 13 and he is begging me to let him play football. He's pretty tall for his age, but sadly, I think all my boys take after me when it comes to athletics.

A couple of tips for as far as Board Etiquette is concerned.

No politics.
Midnighter's Polls are sometimes NSFW.
We haven't had a rival since we joined the B1G (although Pitt wishes we still did).
If you want to get on Bob's good side bring up the topic of scones.
We never go in the ocean because of sharks.
AustinNit had a few shortcomings and his story is legendary.
It's O$U not OSU or tOSU.

The first step in becoming a board-worthy PSU fan is to hate all things PSU, except for Paterno, and maybe some niche sports.

Mississippi to Lykens?

1. Buy some warm clothes!
2. Spring in Penna is like bi-polar disorder: one minute you're freezing, the next you're on fire.
3. Entirely different accent.
4. The food is really different. Good luck finding fried chicken you will like as much as in the South.
5. Here we actually think we won the Civil War.

Welcome!

Well, I have spent the last 7 years in western New York right outside of Rochester, so actually a little warmer and I have found the food here to be MUCH better than western New York where everything is bland.

No. But you’ll become a big college wrestling fan!
Sweet. I used to watch it as a kid.

I drove to all of my company’s sites in PA several times per year in every corner of the state in the first chapter of my career, but I still had to look up Lykens on Google Maps. It’s definitely out there, but it looks like it’s probably pretty peaceful. Welcome.
