Forget who mentioned 'Tehran' on Apple - is it any good? Looking for something more along the lines of Slow Horses or Le Bureau than Homeland and I love Alicia Vikander; worth watching?

How about The Diplomat on Netflix? I thought it was good.
Kari Russel, Rufus Sewell and David Gyasi were all very good.

Yeah, we loved the first season but haven't made it past the first episode of S2. I did like it though.....

Really good show. I'm a sucker for Keri Russell. Rufus is great too.

If you like Slow Horses, you will probably like Down Cemetery Road which is also on Apple TV. It's a thriller involving a government conspiracy that is also set in London.

Started this last night - found the pacing really disjointed. Interesting story (as far as I can make of it) and I like that it's set in Oxford. Will see how it goes - thanks!

Yes - Oxford and not really London. My English geography is lacking. It will take a couple of episodes for the story to really come out.

Emma Thompson is a hoot. She's like a more refined version of Jackson Lamb.

Watched "How to get to Heaven thru Belfast" over the weekend. Created by Lisa McGee who created the Derry Girls. I enjoyed it, thought it was funny, not as funny as the Derry Girls but still funny.

Amazing stuff. Sort of an own goal though with a 20 minute flashback right when thugs get going; I liked it - but, they could have put it anywhere in any episode. The trial was insane though I wished I could have seen more combat from the others. Maekar for damn sure can fight.

Recent(jsh) reviews:

Pluribus (Apple): Watched the whole season. Was frustrated the whole season. Lead character is wholly unlikeable and stupid. Throat-punch inducing. The hive mind things are just illogically constructed, and all the other unconverted people are superficially constructed dopes. It's another takes-itself-too-seriously self-indulgent series (like Severance, and many others in recent memory) that has about half the plot of what it actually filmed and broadcast. Would only recommend if you have time to waste and want to be frustrated.

Fallout (Prime): Season 2 was great. I was a little annoyed by the continual flashback device throughout the season, but it worked, overall. Highly recommend.

The Diplomat (Netflix): Season 3 was bad. Keri Russell's character was about unlikeable as a character can be, without being a serial killer, or something similar. Throat-punch fatality inducing.

Cross (Prime): Just started watching Season 2. I'm a sucker for a cheesy crime thriller. Definitely not great, but a couple of episodes in, it scratches the itch. But barely.

WonderMan (Disney): Watched because it was one of the few things my younger son is still interested in, in terms of TV shows ... and a flashback to my Marvel days in my youth. Did not like it. I hate shows with superheroes that aren't about superheroes. It was all self-indulgent acting-is-so-important nonsense, combined with psychological woe. I don't mind shows and movies taking liberties with the source material, but this version of Wonderman has absolutely nothing in common with the source material, other than being an actor. The thing is, the lead actor, and Ben Kingsley, are tremendous in it. Still haven't watched the season finale.

Watching this series now, Episodes 1-4 are up. Cool to see all those old school ABA players, on Prime.

HBO Max riding high on success and extremely positive word of mouth for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms drops a new promo for House of the Dragon S3 (which will be epic in a way we’ve never seen before as far as dragon warfare goes) with a new trailer tomorrow. LFG!

Anyone watching DTF St Louis? Funky, weird show about the seamy side of adult dating sites starring David Harbor and Jason Bateman. Great sound track to the show too. The rapper segment last episode was epic!

My wife and I have been watching it. It’s pretty good, although you can kinda see where it’s going pretty early on. I would definitely recommend Rooster, also on HBO Max. It stars Steve Carrell, and is absolutely hilarious. It’s been a while since there’s been a show this funny.

I have seen bits and pieces of a few episodes. I am enjoying what I have seen. Jason Bateman seems like a regular guy who just happens to be an actor. Since we are roughly the same age, I feel like we have grown up together.

Caught a snippet of a show called Rooster with Steve Carell. It seems pretty interesting. Have not figured out all the plots and subplots yet, but I always liked his acting (except The Office, which I just never watdhed).

Um, and Linda Cardellini???

Also, honestly surprised David Harbour hasn't been cancelled yet. He doesn't seem like a nice dude.

Really? I'm a huge Steve Carrell fan, and I think Rooster is awful.

I'm adding this here because this is really a show, even though it finished with a movie. SPOILERS....

Peaky Blinders - Immortal Man.
Have been looking forward to it for a few years and had huge expectations. I'm not sure I've even been more disappointed with a show ending and that includes Game of Thrones and Deadwood. This was an incredible show, probably in my top 15 of all time, and deserved a way better send off. No closure on the Oswald Mosely storyline, really no long term characters left except Tommy and Ada (no Alfie? no Arthur?). I found the plot to be a bit hokey and cliche (the beaten down hero returns from seclusion to save the day, really?).

SPOILERS

I posted some brief but very similar thoughts in the movie thread. Agree with everything; where was Finn? And killing Ada was maybe the worst thing in the entire show save killing Arthur for some unknown reason off screen. I heard the actor had some issues but still - very cowardly. Lack of resolution to several storylines was terrible, and while I like Barry Keoghan, just not enough known about him to care much that he makes decisions based on a coin flip. Really bad unfortunately save the acting and production which is always elite. Should have ended after S5 if this is our reward.

Post from movie thread:

Update: Hated this. Not sure what else to say other than if you're going to gift your fans a film after six seasons, make it worthwhile. This is not that. So sad given all the talent and effort involved, but wish they would have just left things as is with the regular series finale. No spoilers here, but if others watch and want to get into it, I'm game. 2/10.

I was curious what you would think as you turned me on to this show. Totally with you. Should have let TS die in the carriage in S5 instead of this.

I will try to remember this show for what it was for 5 seasons.

Yeah - let him die in the carriage, vision of Grace and Ruby the last thing he sees. After getting rid of Mosley of course. Go out on top.

I really like the Rooster. It has echos of Richard Russo Straight Man, but with the added bonus of Steve Carrell, one of the best comedic actors in the past 30 years
